I'm not surprised. Drake has been HUGE and has built up MASSIVE anticipation for his album. I think this is how they should try and introduce all new acts. It lets people get to know their music a little more before dropping the album on them. Then people aren't 100% sure if they wanna buy it or not and then we have people just doing the "a la carte" mp3 downloads. I don't think this would happen with every new artist though. However, new acts typically don't open big anymore, so its not like it would hurt.

500K on the first week is really really good for Drake. I'm not surprised, his album is highly anticipated and doesn't disappoint.

I think the best track on Drake's album is "Over". I actually like his EP better though.

God damn Drake is so overrated. Doesn't even write his own stuff.

I agree Tony. I didnt want to be the first to say it. I laugh at people who thought he even had a chance to do a million in his first week. He's solid but he's not one of the best in the game. Not even close. He had a nice verse on Forever. Best I Ever Had was good. Over is nice. But nothing different.
It's all hype. I don't think his second full length album whenever it comes out will do as much as this one. We will see. Maybe he will prove be wrong. Doubt it.
People thought I was nuts for saying The Blueprint 3 wouldnt outsell Relapse. So Far Relapse is still over 200,000 more copies sold and just a couple weeks ago sold more in a week then TB3 Did and RELAPSE came out before Blueprint 3.
People hate on Eminem but he will have the #1 album debuet of the year soon. Then I will see what haters say after that.

Drake and Universal did a great job by giving the music an exceptional mass appeal. He has his gangsta rap track fans for the males, the singing love tracks for the females, songs with hot beats for the clubs, and emo tracks for the depressed. And they are all embracing him. He has appeal to both blacks and whites equally, something that rappers have been certainly trying to find a niche for in the last decade or so. Universal and Cash Money have done a fantastic job promoting him, releasing his tracks to radio and iTunes, putting him on the right features, and setting him off on tour multiple times (actually starting him on trips a whole year before this release). The music industry badly needed sales figures like this as well. Well deserved for him and the label. Congrats.

Yeah. I'm not surprised he's doing well at all. I read an interesting thing though. Will he be consistent like Eminem and Jay Z or be like a Ja-Rule or a Nelly. I think that's yet to be determined.

He re-released his album, after all.

Haters gon hate.

He re-released it with the actual CD, not as an individual CD! I didn't buy Relapse, but i bought the Refill! I mean if he released it as and idividual CD(Like Gaga). It would have reached Gold, because people will buy it. But to put it with same case won't make another million people buy it. Its for 16$ i think when it was released!

Well I think most rappers would still damn near kill to be as successful as Nelly was. As for Drake, this was one major exception where pushing back the release date majorly worked wonders. I see similar numbers for Em when he drops.

It stands to reason that the decline would have kept chugging along with nothing to push it.

So many Drake h@ters, for no reason. He doesn't go out and diss rappers, he doesn't talk about killing people or selling drugs. He goes gold in a week and people are still saying he's over rated, with 3 singles in the top 15 of the Hot 100 and 80% of the album songs in the top 100 on iTunes. Drake is here to stay, and you all know it.

Smashing first week for Drake. Just shows music business isn't dead just yet, if there is enough interest in an artist people are still willing to go out a pick up an album.

Also, idk why people are comparing his sales to Eminem's. Em's beenr apping since 1999, I think his fan base will be slightly larger than Drake's, who began to be known in 2008-2009. And didn't Em do a song with Drake that they performed at the Grammys? Seems like Em isn't a Drake h@ter.

It stands to reason that the decline would have kept chugging along with nothing to push it. It's hillarious. It would still have sold more than TB3. It would be close i admit but Relapse would still be over TB3 in sales. It's still doing as much a week as TB3. let me guess. That's because of TB3 as well. lol. If i'm a hater because im skeptical of Drake being able to be a mainstay then so be it. I loved his verse and chorus on Forever. I thought E.P was really good. Eminem likes Drake? So? What Eminem thinks doesnt effect my opinion. Eminem is my favorite rapper but im not going to agree with him on everything. And i don't dislike Drake at all. I recognize talent and he has it. I just think he rushed Thank Me Later out to capitalize on the hype.

How the fuck did Drake RUSH this album? That is plain old ignorance. The album was in production for over a year. Eminem released an album barely over a year ago. I guess he rushed his album too

I just finished listening to the album, and there's no words to describe how disappointed I am. Why is the album so slow?! I barely like any of the songs. Maybe on other listen it'd grow on me, but damn...

Co-Sign. I love sappy love songs more than anybody but none of the slow songs are any good.

Honestly, I've never been a big fan of Drake's since he hit it big. I got sick of "Best I Ever Had" fairly quickly, but I was totally floored when I heard "Find Your Love." What a great track, slow or not. It's almost convinced me to give his album a shot. Based on some of his earlier songs, I wasn't expecting a song like that with such depth to it. I'm anxious to hear more.

Wow at Justin Bieber still selling Surprised at Sarah McLachlan's numbers as i didnt' expect that much with no promo Christina Aguilera's album without airplay, without a hit will fade away. 2 wks out with sales still under 200k is not a good look. Carol King and James Taylor's album seems to be a sleeper, steady cd with their tour reflecting it. Good for them.

Wow at Justin Bieber still selling Surprised at Sarah McLachlan's numbers as i didnt' expect that much with no promo For what it's worth, I've seen the commercial for it several times on TV and the single is doing well on AAA radio.

That isnt ignorance. That's a fact. A rap album recorded in a year is rushed? Then so was Eminems. Thinking taking a year to record a rap album is rushing it is ignorant plain and simple. The majority are recorded in way less time.

That isnt ignorance. That's a fact. How the fuck is that a fact. If it were rushed, it would've been released in 2009 to capitalize off of the success of So Far Gone. If it were rushed, it would've been released in February like it was supposed to have been released.
