Finally! Decent sales for the top 10. This also looks like it will be Christina's second (and last) week in the top 10.

I wouldn't be surprised if Carole King and James Taylor have slightly bigger numbers than that, given their Today Show appearance.

Not surprising that Drake is busting out of the gate with such high numbers, so much hype behind him albeit slightly unwarranted.

yesterday I was walking in manhattan and Some people were walking right behind me and were talking about drake. Seems like they were the record execs responsible for releasing and marketing the album.

'Glee: Journey...' isn't only an EP, but it's also going to suffer from no episode this week. I don't think that any of their #1 albums is going to outsell Vol. 1 soon. Power of Madonna and Journey to Regionals aren't even high enough to have a shot, and Vol. 3 won't have legs to make it. Seems like unless the first one for the second season gets some promo, Vol. 1 will remain as their highest selling album.

What happend to buying one copy of an album? I have only bought one album more than once and that was Tool - AEnima that I bought twice. And it was three years after I bought my first copy of it.

omg wtf is up with Zac Brown Band, why are they still selling so well? They've actually outsold Carrie Underwood's Play On in total album sales. After all the hype that Carrie has received, she isn't even the 2nd or 3rd biggest seller in country music.

Does the Zac Brown Band also have a 7 million seller and a 3 million+ seller as well in the past 3-4 years? Just wondering. They are doing brilliantly and are agreed upon as excellent musicians for their type of music, but I thought it was strange you were acting like Carrie is all hype and little success or something.

The 7 million was released in 2004/5? The 3 million album was released 2006? My point is that Carrie's present hype is outrunning her actual current achievements when there are other country music contemporaries who are doing better with far less ballyhoo and publicity. The fact that ZBB are charting higher than Play On despite their album being 1 year older serves to reinforce my point.

Some Hearts was released in very, very late 2005-like, November or December 2005 and not 2004. I was thinking 2006 so really around 4 years isn't inaccurate. It will be five years at the end of this year. CR (her second cd that sold over 3 million) was released very late 2007.
I don't think Carrie's hype is much larger than her achievements. You don't find many people at all selling 1.6 million cds or more nowadays. This isn't her breakout cd anymore. She isn't the new hot thing anymore. Yet, she is still pounding out more than what most artists do even with massive multiformat airplay and promotion. We will see what ZBB does beyond their breakout cd which is this one. Will they be selling 1.6-2 million cds two cds from now like Carrie is? Perhaps. I do wish them well, but it is a VERY difficult feat and one that Carrie should be THRILLED she has achieved.

Uh...all of Carrie's singles have went to #1, she's the first woman to win the ACM Entertainer of the Year TWICE (in a row btw and beating Zac Brown Band that past year), is currently in one of the most successful country tours of the year, almost all her singles go top 40 on the Hot 100, inducted into the Grand Ole Opry and has a spectacular voice. Those are some great achievements if you ask most people. What "hype" are you talking about btw? And why did you even bring her up??

The sentence that started it was "They've actually outsold Carrie Underwood's Play On in total album sales"
But it's simple maths: popular female vocalist *put name here*+something objective or slightly negative = war

A quick glance at your posting history, and it's easily identifiable that you got a target set on Carrie.

I'm just mystified by the adulation heaped on Carrie when her real world achievements are so middling.
Her decreasing album sales from her 1st album to the latest shows she hasn't grown the country music fanbase and she has yet to make inroads internationally.Even Lady Antebellum are starting to tour Europe and Oceania. So even any intangible claims to ambassadorship or trailblazing efforts for country music are shaky at best.
If we go by objective criteria like current record sales and concert tickets sold, her achievements aren't impressive either.Carrie's not the 2nd or 3rd biggest album seller in country music nor is her tour even the 3rd or 4th biggest on the country music circuit.
Before Carrie fans accuse me of a vendetta, ask yourselves : What part of the previous 2 paragraphs is untrue?

And which ones in particular are less "middling" than Carrie's? Her latest album is about to top 1.6 million scanned, that's a big deal nowadays.

Before Carrie fans accuse me of a vendetta, ask yourselves : What part of the previous 2 paragraphs is untrue? Probably none of it, I don't care enough to find out. But it's obvious you have a vendetta because this is a thread about this week's album chart and you managed to single handedly turn it into being about Carrie. Nobody in this thread is claiming Carrie is the #1 country artist at the moment. Move the fuck on.

If that we the case there would only be handful of "successful" recording acts.

at this pressed hater throwing shade at Carrie. 11.6 million albums sold is not impressive? 1.6 million sold with 2.5 country radio only singles in this sales climate is not impressive? ACM EOTY 2 times is not impressive? 5 Grammys is not impressive? CMA FVOTY 3 times is not impressive?
