Working on their next album now, lead single will be released in August. Supposedly will be titled "The Catalyst." Apologies if there is already a thread, I couldn't find one. Hopefully they'll bring the rock back on this album.
MOD NOTE: Changed thread title to reflect first single. -AA

I love softer Linkin Park too, so I'm excited for this either way!

I love softer Linkin Park too, so I'm excited for this either way! +1. They are pros at not losing the melody in the surroundings, so whether it's a harder or softer sound, I'm sure it will be good.

New Linkin Park is all it takes to get the CHR folks buzzin' in the alt/rock section. Come back soon!

I love softer Linkin Park too, so I'm excited for this either way! +1. They are pros at not losing the melody in the surroundings, so whether it's a harder or softer sound, I'm sure it will be good. They said it blends "Hybrid Theory" and "Minutes to Midnight". That really doesn't say much other than that it will be softer than "Hybrid Theory" and harder than "Minutes to Midnight". I for one have found them strongest when they retain some of their edge but go for more atmospheric rhythms. "Breaking the Habit" would be the best example of that. Bennington doesn't really tone down his bleeding-throat vocals in that song (especially the bridge), but unlike many of their other bombastic noise pollution tirades I just haven't able to stomach, it works in that case because the more organic production sets the emotional proscenium well for Bennington and just sounds fairly unique. They tried to go even softer, of course, on their last album but I don't think it worked in some instance, because there was no edge at all, thus no real emotional depth. I think it worked on "The Little Things Give You Away" and "Shadow of the Day", but it just sounded clumsy on "Valentine's Day", "In Between" and a few too many other tracks I can't even remember the names of at this point. I wonder if New Divide will be on the album I think that if it's on the album, it'll just be a bonus track. It was just a soundtrack single.

Maybe it'll have more "Bleed It Out" moments than "Shadow of the Day" moments.

Considering BIO ad SOTD are two of my favorite singles of theirs, I don't care what the balance is if these new songs are similar to those tracks. I'm looking forward to this!

Another number 1 debut? I guess that depends on the band keeping the single under lock and key until just around 12:00:00 AM August 2, 9, 16 or 23.

Goes for adds August 2. I'm hoping for a #1 debut so it can knock Lay Me Down from that top spot.

Wait...you mean like record a song called "The Catalyst" that tries to predict what the Linkin Park what will sound like? If I could sound like Chester Bennington, I'd actually have fun with that.

Wait...you mean like record a song called "The Catalyst" that tries to predict what the Linkin Park what will sound like? If I could sound like Chester Bennington, I'd actually have fun with that. no. it's something like this: "But not Linkin Park. In an unprecedented move, the band is giving you, the fans, the chance to actually help shape a song on their upcoming album, A Thousand Suns, which will hit shelves on September 14. We’re proud to be teaming up with Linkin Park for “Linkin Park Featuring You,” a one-of-a-kind opportunity that allows you the chance to produce your own song for the band. Beginning tomorrow, July 9, you can go to Linkin Park’s MySpace page to download audio stems from “The Catalyst,” the first single from the band’s new album, which will hit radio on August 2. Then it’s on you to show off your skills. Adjust the stems, record and produce your own additional tracks.Feel free to use your own music production software to create your song and then upload it to Linkin Park’s MySpace page. Once each new version is submitted, the track will be shared in an embeddable player, which anyone can access to rate and comment, as well as click through to record their own tracks. A winner will be chosen by Linkin Park, and the lucky musician’s submission will either be included on the band’s new album or the winner will be invited to perform with the band on a song on the upcoming record."
