Every time I listen to this I can't help but think this song is a ticking time bomb. I honestly think it has potential to make as big of an impact as BEP did with "Where is the Love?", etc... It has potential to be a monumental song and could easily become the song they're most known for in the future.

CBS radio stations LOVE this song. WODS in Boston, KMVQ in SF, WDZH in Detroit, WLLD in Tampa are some examples.
The two huge Alternative stations in LA, KROQ and KYSR, have been playing it a lot too.

Although I'd love for this to hit #1, I'd be surprised if more conservative/rural stations played this enough to push it there.

This might put into a much bigger perspective which stations will pick up on this song. Counties labeled in blue within a specific state are much more likely to play this song. Counties labeled in red are much less likely to play this song if at all. www.politico.com/2012-election/map/#/President/2012/

And, I can't speak for other states, but Missouri went in favor of Romney in the last election, but the Democratic candidates won for Senate and Governor by virtually the same margin, so its not so black-and-white (or in this case, red-and-blue). And, even if some stations in Alabama don't play this, I don't think that's a good enough reason for it not to be a single anyway. It doesn't need to hit #1 on CHR to be a success story, imo, which I believe it will be.

Yes that is true, there are people that will deviate from the party that they voted for and have differences in issues such as gay marriage. But it does show which counties are more likely to have a positive or negative reaction to the song, it all comes down to probability. More people that voted republican are more likely to not support gay marriage about roughly 52%.

Ew, this brilliant work cannot be compared to The Black Eyed Peas.
This is a pivotal song that could lock Macklemore and Ryan Lewis into history. I really hope they release it and I really hope it goes really fucking big. This is the perfect time for them.

It's also coming out at a time when opinion is quickly shifting and could accelerate the process. Fair enough. I live in the Seattle area, where Macklemore was already popular for years before he blew up. "Same Love" was first released on iTunes last summer, and many here credit it for being influential in the passage of R74 last November that legalized same-sex marriage in the state of Washington. So in a sense it has already made the impact you're hoping for, only on a smaller scale. This is probably also the only other obvious single candidate on The Heist. I could see "Ten Thousand Hours", "Make The Money", or "Gold" being considered, but I'd prefer him go three deep here, take a break, then come out with new material next spring. I'm envisioning Grammy nominations for The Heist, followed by the premiere of the first new single from his next album on the 2014 award telecast.

...you could have just said states that tend to lean more Democratic or Republican instead of red/blue lol There is a huge difference between municipalities within states though, such as Texas where cities such as Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio are much more likely to pick up the song than much more rural areas. Also this holds true for states like California where stations like KMVQ(San Francisco), KAMP, KIIS(LA), KDND, KHHM(Sacramento) KEGY/KHTS(San Diego) are more likely to pick up on this song compared to a station east of the Interstate 5 Corridor like KKXX(Bakersfield), KRCK(Palm Springs).

The song has a video and is getting passed around on its own accord, my thoughts are it doesn't need to be *made* a single since it's doing fine on its own. Radio will probably automatically start picking it up once "Can't Hold Us" starts dying away as they did with "Rumour Has It."

WEZB, the local CHR station here in New Orleans, played "Same Love" tonight as part of their nightly song showdown. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis OBLITERATED the defending champion Rihanna. Only one vote for Rihanna while all the rest (they played at least 10 on the air) went to "Same Love." All while "Can't Hold Us" ranked in the top 4 of their nightly request show earlier in the night. They could very well have two songs in the top 5 most requested within a week here. And the two songs are different enough that I could see them thriving simultaneously. The bottom line: with two bonafide #1 hits under their belt now, the stage is set for Macklemore & Lewis to get tons of airplay for a very important song.

Can't it wait a few more months? Let's let "Thrift Shop" go recurrent and "Can't Hold Us" peak before this takes off. Please and thank you, radio! I know, it's a little retarted! You did not just say that. But yeah, they need to calm down and take one thing at a time.

There's been lots of anti-Republican songs that have been radio hits before. Not supporting gay rights, but other things that Republicans hate like songs mentioning promiscuous sex, songs with drug references, etc. have been hits in right-wing areas.

There are a lot of republicans that do promiscuous sex, drugs and listen to songs that aren't as direct as Same Love. Many people listen to songs just for the catch of the anthems such as Promiscuous from 2006 or Give Me Everything from 2011 or Tik Tok from 2010. Those songs were all catchy anthems, which were more about the beat where the lyrics were sung for fun. This song is much more serious in terms of issues.

Any idea what the official radio edit is like? I'm fearing that they might trim off a verse or something awful like that. The stations here play/played the regular album version, except with the first 30 seconds and last ~20-30 seconds trimmed off, and "males who are into other malesgots" censored. Hopefully the US does the same.

So I actually had some doubts about this being a hit on CHR. I heard it on my local station this week, and all doubts have been shattered! They played it for the first time as an up-and-coming song, and the reception was insanely positive so hopefully they add it this week :) I really hope this becomes their third big smash!
Oh, and they played the full version.

Not like they have much say, though. CHU took off on its own, and this is doing the same.

The 1-2-3 punch of Thrift Shop-Can't Hold Us-Same Love shows so much diversity, so much "Adeleness" that I can't help but KNOW they will be top dawgs for years to come. Eminem level maybe...
