Mediabase - Top 40/Mainstream - 2018 Year-End Chart

We've made it to the finish line, again. Mediabase's 2018 chart year has wrapped. The chart year started with the Sunday November 19, 2017 chart and ended, last week, with the Sunday November 11, 2018 chart. Mediabase's standard practice, of late, has been to wrap their chart year two Sundays before Thanksgiving. Should they do otherwise, this year, i'll make the necessary adjustments to my numbers.
The usual Mediabase disclaimer...Mediabase counts ALL spins, including recurrent play. A track needs to have spent, at least, one week as a "current" during the chart year period in order to be eligible for inclusion in the year-end rankings. Year-long recurrents don't count, though I have shown where they would have ranked within the top 100, if they did. Artist spin-weighting divides the spins for each song amongst the performers credited on the track, with a greater percentage of the weight given to lead performers over the featured performers.
The usual personal disclaimer...I am only limited to the top 50 currents and recurrents, every week (that's all I can get from All Access). So my spin totals aren't "exact", but they'll certainly be "close enough" the the official Mediabase rankings. "New Rules" earns Dua Lipa a, well deserved, win as the top song of the year. The song was relentless. It debuted way back in August 2017 and spent a total of 38 weeks in the top 50 as well as 22 weeks in the top 10. The latter, all during the 2018 chart year. The song, then, logged considerable recurrent play as it inched, slowly, downward. In fact, it would still be in the top 30, right now, if not for those pesky recurrent rules.
Ed Sheeran is no slouch, either. "Perfect" seemed just as relentless, and it held the top spot through the halfway point of the year. Ed's winnng streak, continues, in that this is the third consecutive year that he has made the top two, in some capacity:
2016: #2 "Love Yourself" (as a songwriter)
2017: #1 "Shape Of You"
2018: #2 "Perfect"
On the artist list, Post Malone wins top honors by a mile. He had five top 50 singles, during the year, as a lead artist and one featured appearance. Not to mention, copious recurrent play. Three of his hits land in the year-end top 20.

The usual Mediabase disclaimer...Mediabase counts ALL spins, including recurrent play. A track needs to have spent, at least, one week as a "current" during the chart year period in order to be eligible for inclusion in the year-end rankings. Year-long recurrents don't count, though I have shown where they would have ranked within the top 100, if they did. "New Rules" earns Dua Lipa a, well deserved, win as the top song of the year. The song was relentless. It debuted way back in August 2017 and spent a total of 38 weeks in the top 50 as well as 22 weeks in the top 10. The latter, all during the 2018 chart year. The song, then, logged considerable recurrent play as it inched, slowly, downward. In fact, it would still be in the top 30, right now, if not for those pesky recurrent rules.
Ed Sheeran is no slouch, either. "Perfect" seemed just as relentless, and it held the top spot through the halfway point of the year. Ed's winnng streak, continues, in that this is the third consecutive year that he has made the top two, in some capacity:
2016: #2 "Love Yourself" (as a songwriter)
2017: #1 "Shape Of You"
2018: #2 "Perfect"
On the artist list, Post Malone wins top honors by a mile. He had five top 50 singles, during the year, as a lead artist and one featured appearance. Not to mention, copious recurrent play. Three of his hits land in the year-end top 20.
