Good riddance! Were they all using the overnight playlist? Those were the ones doing the national playlist 16 hours a day, from 2PM-6AM. This should have a positive impact on the chart.

Oh, don't give them that much credit, Slinky. They were using 10AM-6AM canned playlists I'm incredibly glad Mediabase isn't putting up with this horseshit, but I really wonder how the situation will progress if/when more CC CHRs adopt nearly 24/7 automated programming.

It'll take a little bit to settle down though. Removing them from the panel means all songs played on those stations take temporary hits, especially the ones on the national playlist. By a couple weeks it should even out, though. I'm glad Mediabase was smart enough to notice how badly these stations affected the chart and took action.

Another revelation from Mediabase. These stations have also been removed:
Hot AC: KALZ/FRESNO, WSYR/FT. PIERCE, WSNE/PROVIDENCE, KGBY/SACRAMENTO
Alternative: WRXS/COLUMBUS, WTZB/SARASOTA
So it turns out I was wrong about no national playlisting on the Hot ACs. The 4 that have been kicked out were running a national playlist all day.
However, there seem to be fewer of the national playlist affiliates for Hot AC. I tried the Texas and Ohio CC Mix stations and none of them were following a national playlist on Monday night. The other thing is that since Clear Channel Hot ACs are usually very gold-heavy, like CC Alt. stations, national playlisting isn't going to have a huge impact on that format's chart.

Maybe now stations/Clear Chanel will be less willing to use this playlist too, since they know if they use it too much, there's a good chance they'll be removed from the panel.

I had a feeling Mediabase was going to take action in some form or another. Nice to see something being done.
This will indeed bring down the overall spin counts for most if not all songs, but still, it's somewhat better in helping out a lot of the new songs that were really hurting this week.
I thought I saw "Beggin'" by Madcon on the national playlist - that song actually started gaining its bullet considerably because of this.

Yes, Beggin' is getting a lot of airplay on the national playlist. That, along with the other rhythmic tracks on the list, and the DJ's that are announcing, seems to indicate that this whole thing is being run out of KIIS in LA.

I'm so thankful Mediabase did something about this. Hopefully, the songs that lost their bullets will gain again soon.

^Really likin the fact that Mediabase is takin action ...it'll def. help - only thing is, pretty sure the stations that were removed weren't playin many of those songs left off the playlist (Shinedown, Katy Perry, Matt Nathanson, Plain White T's, etc.) cause most of those were near-rhythmic anyway - stations that were playin those Rock/Hot AC songs seemed to opt for only the overnight syndicated programming, and they're bein kept on the panel - removin the other stations will prob. allow these songs to "pass" others, but not sure it'll increase the bullet back to where it was before...

We'll see what happens from this point. At least with these moves, the CHR charts won't become more rhythmic than they already are. I do think however, with this national playlist already in place, it still stands to benefit less those songs that were already left off to begin with (unless Clear Channel really takes this into consideration). So this means eventually, the losses by certain songs (such as the ones mentioned above) on CHR will translate into major gains they have a better chance of getting on Hot AC to make up for that.

Interesting to see some alternative stations removed as well, I had a bit of a hunch there was something similar going on with the Active Chart, but not necessarily the Alternative Chart. I typically follow the Rock charts, and not often CHR, but I took a certain interest in this issue because I felt that the idea may spread to other formats.
Here's what I've noticed as suspicious on Active radio, of course, it may be pure coincidence.
3rd Single: 8 6 SHINEDOWN Sound Of Madness 1367 1334 33 4.622 2nd Single: 15 14 SHINEDOWN Second Chance 1031 960 71 3.832
A lot of people in the pop world may just be discovering Shinedown, but they've been an Active Rock staple since their debut single, "Fly From the Inside." All nine of their singles have reached the top 5, and their 10th single ("Sound of Madness," the first bar above) is about to accomplish that feat as well. Although "Second Chance" (this eras second single, ninth overall), is deceasing on pop, it's doing just the opposite here. It was a number one hit for several weeks, so many stations have it on their playlist. Which leads me to believe something fishy might be going on. "Sound of Madness" shot to the top 10, and now it's somewhat stalling while "Second Chance" is having a second wind.
1st Single: 11 10 MUDVAYNE Do What You Do 1173 1134 39 4.751 2nd Single: 16 15 MUDVAYNE Scarlet Letters 885 834 51 2.340
Here's another case: "Do What You Do" has been on the chart for awhile. It peaked at number two thanks to the dominance of "Something In You Mouth" and "Second Chance" at number one. Like "Second Chance," most stations have it, but have largely stopped playing it until now apparently. "Scarlett Letters" had been cruising up the chart about as fast as "Sound of Madness," but now it's bullet has fallen to just 12 spins above "Do What You Do."
2nd Single: 18 17 NICKELBACK Something In Your Mo... 823 807 16 2.861 3rd Single: 34 42 NICKELBACK If Today Was Your La... 214 309 -95 0.704 4th Single: 72 47 NICKELBACK Burn It To The Groun... 155 46 109 1.055
This one's my favorite: Not only do we have an old, former number one hit ("Something In Your Mouth") increasing after the followup flopped on the format ("If Today Was Your Last Day"), we have a bonus thrown in: another single that is increasing at a much greater rate ("Burn It to the Ground"). This all happening after the first single, "Gotta Be Somebody," largely underperformed. What does this mean? Heck if I know.
Just looking at the Active Rock chart, I can see that old top tens are getting a bit of a spike. Meanwhile, the newer songs (only a month or so on the chart) aren't getting the same spike. Like I said, this could all be coincidental, but there are many songs that were doing well and then just appeared to hit a wall.
2 3 DISTURBED The Night 1572 1596 -24 5.279 5 5 SEETHER Careless Whisper 1414 1440 -26 4.524 10 11 SAVING ABEL Drowning (Face Down) 1147 1160 -13 3.603 12 12 POP EVIL 100 In A 55 1073 1087 -14 3.222 13 13 RED Death Of Me 1053 1057 -4 2.973 21 20 VEER UNION Seasons 739 745 -6 2.258 20 21 HURT Wars 730 754 -24 1.917 25 24 HALESTORM I Get Off 588 603 -15 1.929 29 29 SALIVA How Could You? 442 500 -58 1.284 37 35 10 YEARS Actions & Motives 275 280 -5 0.860 41 39 LACUNA COIL Spellbound 240 241 -1 0.791
The only thing I see on the Alternative Chart that looks out of place is the fact that "Sex on Fire" is about to break the top 10 again, while "Use Somebody" is back up to second again after hitting number one, getting passed by Anberlin, getting passed by Green Day and falling to number three, Green Day took number one from Anberlin, and now "Use Somebody" has passed Anberlin back.
Oh wait, there's one more thing.
Alternative: 10 10 CAGE THE ELEPHANT Ain't No Rest For Th... 1277 1109 168 5.063
Cool song, and definitely alternative. However, it's weird for a new band to receive this kind of a welcome. Oh, and did I mention its active numbers?
Active: 32 32 CAGE THE ELEPHANT Ain't No Rest For Th... 363 318 45 0.991
Well, I just felt like putting that out there. Food for thought I guess.

^Actually have no idea what the situation is with Clear Channel and Alternative/Active stations...just wonderin how many they own - also seems like Alternative is one of the widest varying formats across the country (i. e. some play Coldplay followed by Snow Patrol followed by Dave Matthews etc., others play Disturbed followed by System Of A Down followed by Breaking Benjamin etc.)...couldn't imagine centralized simulcasting on that format - maybe Active Rock though

All this talk of other formats got me thinking about the Country chart. It seems like almost every Country station out there runs Blair Garner's After Midnight from 12AM-6AM. How does that figure into the Country chart? Does the Country chart just disregard overnight spins or do they count the After Midnight spins in some other way? If they do something special with Country, maybe they could something similar to the CHR chart as well.
Just to be clear: I'm talking Mediabase here. I know Billboard uses audience rather than spins.

^ Last I checked, 22 stations were in on this thing, not just 5. The worst offenders have been axed but that still leaves 17 stations still screwing around. Future impact will be lessened but I'm not entirely sure we're out of the woods yet, not until we see the next few updates.

I guess this makes it easier for Poker Face to retain the spin record for the timebeing, then. lol. Yay. Maybe it's a conspiracy. :o GaGa radio domination ?

The most immediate change I'm expecting to see tomorrow is that EVERYTHING will take a massive hit in the next update, accounting for the five stations that have been removed. After that, we'll just have to see what happens but IMO just because the worst offenders have been removed doesn't necessarily mean that everything will automatically right itself.
Granted, the worst of the damage should be over now, but there's still the possibility that things will deterioate a little more first. It seems a bit early to me to bring on the celebrations when we haven't even seen the impact of the change yet.

Some crazed Gaga fan gave out some bad mortgages back in 2005, wrecked the economy, and forced CC into near-bankruptcy so they had to centralize their programming just so Gaga could keep the spin record.

Yeah the next week or 2 is going to be really, really messy for everything now, not just the songs left out of the playlist. But after that it'll be more normal than it is now, at least.
