Okay, I gave it one more listen and... ...you know what, you're right. As I said, I was so consumed by envy that I let it competely pollute my opinion of the song. Envy is by far my biggest deadly sin, and if the slightest bit of it shows up, all I can do is keep pumping up that envy until it blocks out everything else. My first impression was "boasting about cool things that I can do simply because I'm famous", which is one of my least favorite tropes ever. And that set me off on this fiery tangent that took up nearly half this thread so far, because that's just how strongly envy and jealousy rile me up. Because that was all I could see. And that was all I wanted to see. But now that I've managed to clear that out of my head and take the song at face value, I finally "get it". He obviously didn't set out to be one of the biggest country stars of this decade, regardless of his heritage. He really did know his wife since first grade. I would bet he didn't expect "Die a Happy Man" to blow up the way it did. I would bet that not even married celebrities expect their spouses to have separate fanbases and verified Instagram accounts unless that spouse is a celebrity in their own right. I would bet that he did not expect Lauren to get pregnant so quickly after they adopted. Now that I have the anger and envy cleared out of my head, I can see that those are some pretty damn cool details. I no longer feel like he's being cocky or rubbing it in the listener's face. The internet could learn a few lessons from your humility!

Very meh on this. Bastille is definetly one of the most overrated indie bands right now IMO

Post Malones delivery and production can be monotone, but he has a real knack for good melodies

Its nice to hear hear Niall, Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes bringing actual guitars back to pop radio.

Im interested to see if his follow-up singles have any success. If You Want Love sounds like a potential big hit to me.

Divide - Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran’s much anticipated 3rd album dropped about a year ago, to around 500K sales. Those are impressive numbers by themselves, but couple that with one of the largest singles of all time and two very successful follow-ups, and you cement yourself as one of the largest artists in the world. Ed Sheeran dominated 2017 commercially, but critics were, no pun intended, divided on his album. Let’s look at it.
Amount 2 months before the album, Ed Sheeran dropped both lead singles on the same day. The first was Shape of You, a track Ed Sheeran wrote to give away, but decided to keep. It’s a solid pop song by itself, very catchy and unique melodically, but on the album, it sticks out like a sore thumb, sounding like nothing else. The second, Castle on the hill, is a great song, nostalgically reflecting on Ed’s childhood. The U2 sequel arena rock sound is both timeless and well-fitting on the album. Its only weakness is the production, which overdoes the strings and doesn’t let Ed’s vocals and guitar work shine through.
This is probably the album as a wholes greatest weakness. Ed is at his best with a stripped back acoustic sound, but executive producer Benny Blanco overstuffs many of the albums ballads, particularly Happier, Hearts don’t break around here, Perfect, and How would you feel, with strings, drums, and keys, leaving Ed himself in the background. Happier and Perfect are still quite good songs, but they could have been much more.
Possibly the greatest strength here is Ends willingness to experiment. He raps on the excellent album opener Eraser, and the Irish flavored Galway Girl could be a massive hit if radio would give it a chance. He also recruits John Mayer and Eric Clapton for guitar solos in How Would You Feel and Dive, which elevates both songs considerably.
Unfortunately, the second half of the album is much weaker than the first. New Man is admittedly clever and funny, but the songs start to run into one-another after that. However, the stunning album closer, Supermarket Flowers, almost makes up for that. It’s a painful but powerful story of the passing of Ends Grandmother. It’s too bad that this and Castle on the Hill are the only songs that really shine lyrically. The Deluxe Edition tracks are quite good, so much so that they probably should have replaced some of the weaker tracks in the albums second-half. Nancy Mulligan and Save Myself are well worth a listen.
Overall this is a solid album, and I would even call the first half great. With some shuffling around of the track order and some better written lyrics the second half could have been much better though, and the production is hit-and-miss. Ed Sheeran’s Divide earns a 6 out of 10.
6/10
Must Listens Eraser, Castle on the Hill, Galway Girl, Supermarket Flowers, Save Myself Best Lyrics
“And I hope that I see the world as you did because I know
A life with love is a life that's been lived’- Supermarket Flowers “But I guess it's just my nature
My dad was wrong Cause I'm not like my mum Because she'd just smile and I'm complaining in a song”-Save Myself

This is not really what i was expecting from the Chainsmokers. The lyrics could be improved, but the beat is really good. I don't see this being a big hit.

At this point, something from The Greatest Showman, maybe Rewrite The Stars, should be sent to radio. Its clearly resonating with the public. Ive heard lots of people raving about the movie and how good the songs are.

Is there a chance of a clean radio edit available for download? Probably not because the song isnt technically explicit

I think this is one of her best songs in awhile It’s got a fantastic chorus. Top notch bridge. Breezy perfection production. A list guest stars. And great verse from Taylor I dont think its an ojectively bad song, Im just not a big fan of its style.

I don't think Taylor Swift's 'Delicate' or 'Don't Blame Me' have nearly as much hit potential as people on Pulse seem to think they do. Also I don't know how anyone could POSSIBLY think releasing 'This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things' is a good idea. If Taylor's struggling because of the public having a negative perception of her/her reputation, then TIWWCHNC would only play into every thing people think is wrong with her. Why tf would you want to reinforce her bad rep?! Agreed 100%. I just read someone saying Delicate is a guaranteed top 3 smash and was like "really?". I like them both, especially DBM, but if End Game ain't a smash hit with Ed Sheeran I can't see either of those reversing the era's downward spiral. I think Getaway Car is her best bet for a future single.

Her marketing team has done a great job. Anyone else remember how hated she was about a year ago? Sounds like shes written some great songs too based on the reviews.

This song is like a compilation of everything I dislike about popular music right now. Stale trap production, forgettable rap verses, and unclimactic choruses.

This is really good but I just don't see any song about abortion, even by Em and Ed Sheeran, becoming a big hit.

Now that 2017 is drawing to a close, I figured it would be a good time to start a thread for 2018 predictions. Post your predictions about specific artists or the industry in general below.

2017 wasn't a terrible year for music, but it still pales compared to 2010-2013. Hip Hop ruled the charts this year, which is not inherently a bad thing, but most of the rap hits this year weren't that great. Its kinda disappointing to see rock almost completely die on the charts. Ed Sheeran, whom I personally like quite a lot, was definitely artist of the year IMO. Im tired of how minimalistic and downbeat popular music is in general. The hits this year for the most part lack the bombast and energy of those from 5-6 years ago.

Can someone explain why this song is so popular? I don't see how it's different from any other rap songs on the charts right now. Post Malone and 21 Savage have big fanbases and are riding off a wave of good buzz from recent hits. Add in a really catchy hook and you've got a hit single.

The main demographic of Christian Radio is totally skewed towards middle-aged females. Most younger people, myself included, who listen to christian music, hate christian radio. They leave songs in rotation way too long, the songs they play are way to motivational/ positive without any lyrical depth, and the majority of them sound like U2 or Coldplay rejects.
