Sounds like this opening is on par with Blackout, sales-wise. I consider this to be on par with Circus, since that album's first week sales received a great boost from the Christmas shopping season. I bet if FF was released in November she would have another +500k opener. 290k vs "275-300k" = basically identical 500k vs "275-300k" = huge difference What your saying is like saying "Gimme More" hit #1 on the Hot 100 because "it would have" under different circumstances. "Would have"s don't count and I don't get why people bring them up all the time.

About what I expected for Britney. Here's to hoping the final Soundscan numbers will be higher than what Blackout opened with.

I'm really surprised at Wiz Khalifa's numbers! It's more than just Black and Yellow's success translating to album sales because B.o.B had more major radio hits and could only muster 84,000 in first-week sales. Congrats to him and Britney! Hopefully she'll push a bit over 300k, which would be even more awesome.

BRITNEY HAS A "HOLD” ON TOP SPOT Spears’ Femme Fatale Gives Jive Second #1 in a Row, With 275-300k March 30, 2011 Britney’s back… and on top of the HITS’ Album chart for next week, as her new Jive/JLG album, Femme Fatale looks set to score sales in the 275-300k range. Well, I hope billboard doesn't change the rules last minute. LOL. Was hoping for another 500k debut but obviously that was a reach. This era she will have achieved a few records. She will be in elite crowd of artists that have 3 singles reach #1 (Janet, Madonna, Usher) and 3 albums reach #1 (Whitney, Janet, Madonna, MJ) in 3 decades. She will be the only artist to have 7 studio albums enter top 2 debut week. Also, she will be the youngest artist to have 6 #1 albums and only artist to have 6#1 albums under 30. Let's see: #1 albums 9-Barbra 7-Madonna 6-Britney 6-Mariah 6-Janet 5-Mary J. Blige 4-Whitney 4-Alicia I hope she can get 10 #1 albums before she retires. It would great to see this final number come in around 330k+ Well, I love how she has broken or achieve some record for each studio album era Album/Song record achievements (feel free to list any that I have left off) BOMT-youngest artist to sell over 6 million albums in the us. youngest artist to go diamond OIDIA-highest first week sales, youngest artist to have back to back diamond albums Britney-first female artist to have 3 of their first albums debut at 1. At 19, selling 37 million records WW becoming the best selling teenage artist of all time. In the zone-first female artist to have 4 of their first albums debut at 1. Blackout-first album to get hijacked for their #1 album billboard b!tches... first female artist to have all 5 of her albums debut at either #1 or #2...i'm still mad LOL. Circus-first artist to have 4 studio albums debut with over 500k, highest digital sales for a female at the time. Highest jump to #1 at the time Femme Fatale era -firstfemale artist to have all 7 of her albums debut at either #1 of 2 -youngest female artist to have 6 #1 albums (under 30) - the first artist to have multiple #1 debuts since Mariah Carey - the first female artist (2nd artist overall after Usher) to have at least a #1 hit in 90s, 00s, 10s, -#1 albums in 3 decades -#1 singles in 3 decades -youngest artist to have 6#1 albums -only artist under 30 to have 6#1 albums -youngest solo artist under 30 to sell 100 million records. Number one albums may not necessarily reflect the longevity of an album but it certainly means something. It reveals the purchasing power and reliability of your fanbase especially if thirteen years into your career you are still an almost certain number one on the Billboard 200. Plus, strong first week sales and chart performance can dictate how the label chooses to further market the album to extend its longevity on the charts.

#1 Albums mean absolutely nothing. Especially in the first half of the year. The best selling album of all time by a female didn't hit #1. Longevity is what counts. Britney has debuted multiple times at #1 w/ in the second half of the year so I don't know why you're trying downsize her ability to pull a #1 like it's nothing b/c of the time of year she's released.

^Those albums aren't bad, but how about an actual big critical-hit album like Ray of Light? That peaked at No. 2, as well. I don't think the time of year an album is released matters too much in the case of a Britney Spears album- we've seen the rabidness of her core fanbase. The projection is what I expected. Strong, but not overwhelming. BTW- the Britney album opened with 746K.

^ AC/DC's "Back In Black" never went to number one and its one of the defining albums of heavy metal.

Shania's "Come on Over" never hit #1, and it slayed the charts :)
Good numbers for Britney, I assumed it would be higher(closer to 400k)but it's still pretty good! Hope it has some longevity.

^Indeed. Lots of examples. Shania Twain's Come on over plus many more examples to that. Still a #1 album is just as much of an accomplish as a #1 single is.

^Yes- but as with singles, it has nothing to do with how good/critically revered a title or act is or will end up being. I think most people understand that, but every now and then someone oddly thinks there's some kind of correlation.

Billboard:
Britney Spears' 'Femme Fatale' Aiming for No. 1 on Billboard 200
March 30, 2011
By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
All eyes are on Britney Spears, as the pop diva is poised to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week with her new album, "Femme Fatale." Her seventh studio effort, released on Tuesday (March 29), is on course to top the tally with around 280,000 copies sold by week's end on April 3.
Industry prognosticators suggest the album could approach 300,000 if all of the stars align. Presently, it's looking like "Femme" will earn the second-largest sales week of the year after Adele's "21" bow with 352,000.
If "Femme" finds its away to No. 1, it will give Spears her sixth chart-topper. Five out of her earlier six studio sets crowned the tally -- only her fifth, "Blackout," missed the top slot, starting at No. 2.
A sixth No. 1 album would place Spears in rare air, tying her for the third-most No. 1s among women with Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson. Only Barbra Streisand (nine No. 1s) and Madonna (seven) have earned more No. 1s.
Spears' last studio release, 2008's "Circus," blasted in at No. 1 with 506,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan, led by the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single "Womanizer." "Femme" was preceded by the Hot 100 No. 1 "Hold It Against Me" while its second single, "Till the World Ends," rebounds 23-22 on the tally this week, after having already (so far) peaked at No. 9.
Spears won't be the only big news on the Billboard 200 next week. Wiz Khalifa is looking to enter at No. 2 with his first major label album, "Rolling Papers," with perhaps 200,000 to 225,000. We can also expect debuts from the mainstream release of Radiohead's "The King of Limbs," Snoop Dogg's "Doggumentary" and Mary Mary's "Something Big."

I think most people understand that, but every now and then someone oddly thinks there's some kind of correlation. But what does that have to do with me saying that a #1 album is just as big of an achievement as a #1 single. Quality is subjective, statistics/facts are not.

I hope the album will have legs, it deserves to. I always look at your BRITNEY graphic and notice how In the zone is sandwiched in the middle.LOL. Her first three were built up to ITZ where she really hit her stride in songwriting and having a true thematic album and things went down from there (artistically speaking).

OMG. I was right. I was right. I was right!
I picked 285-300k because this era didn't seem to be doing too well. Madonna and Kelly Clarkson debuted with this amount.
I never estimate correctly so please excuse my excitement.

Why does Snoop Dogg even bother? I think his last album to sell more than 500k was in 2002? I'm not 100% sure, but I think 2006's Tha Blue Carpet Treatment went Gold.

Wow at Wiz! He's on fire right now.
I was definitely expecting 300-400k for Brit, so I'm a bit disappointed.

Well, decent numbers for Britney. I admit I'm quite nervous for the album. Hopefully it'll cross 1M with ease. I believe Circus sold 1.5M in just 3 months. If she does get this #1, I'm more than glad that she's in one of elite groups with Madonna, Mariah, Janet Jackson and Barbara, and none among her peers are even close to that yet.
Does she even have a chance at hitting #1 for a second week. I know it's a little early to ask, but is there an upcoming release that's likely to top next next week's chart?
