BRITNEY HAS A "HOLD” ON TOP SPOT Spears’ Femme Fatale Gives Jive Second #1 in a Row, With 275-300k
March 30, 2011
Britney’s back… and on top of the HITS’ Album chart for next week, as her new Jive/JLG album, Femme Fatale looks set to score sales in the 275-300k range. The album has actually been well-received by some critics, earning a four-star review in Rolling Stone, while last night, she performed on Jimmy Kimmel and appeared in footage shot for Jackass 3 in which she was bungied while inside a porta-potty.
That gives RCA/Jive the #1 spot for the second week in a row. This week, the label held four out of the Top Five spots on the HITS Album sales chart.
The week’s real surprise is Atlantic hip-hop artist Wiz Khalifa’s Rolling Papers, which is on target for sales between 190-215k, coming off the smash single, “Black and Yellow,” now closing in on three million downloads, and the latest hit, “Roll Up,” closing in on 330k. He performed last night before 3,000 fans at a sold-out Roseland Ballroom in New York. As part of iTunes’ “Countdown to Rolling Papers” promotion, the rapper released the Benny Blanco-produced “No Sleep,” which shot to the top of the overall singles chart a day after it was released on the digital retail site.
The physical version of Radiohead’s The King of Limbs hit stores this week, on the band’s own TBD label through RED, with estimates in the 50-60k range, with the previous digital sales on their website not included.
Priority/Capitol/EMI’s Snoop Dogg album, Doggumentary, will bow with between 45-50k, while Columbia Grammy-winning gospel group Mary Mary’s Something Big will do in the 35-40k range.
The market was up 13% vs. last week, up 7% vs. same week last year and now down 5% year to date, marking the sixth consecutive week that album sales have beat the corresponding week last year. So crack open the bubbly and let’s settle on the correct spelling of Khadafy, Qadafi, Gaddafi or whatever his name is once and for all.

Why does Snoop Dogg even bother? I think his last album to sell more than 500k was in 2002? Is he not getting dropped only 'cause he's Snoop Dogg? if only he made good albums and only few good tracks..

Sounds like this opening is on par with Blackout, sales-wise.
I really have no idea who Wiz Khalifa is or why he is this popular. He certainly breaks the trend of a lot of new male artists with #1 singles having weak-to-middling album debuts (Flo Rida, Taio Cruz, Jay Sean, Jason DeRulo, B.o.B., etc.).

I think Britney will trend a wee bit upwards. Edit-someone answered above! It would suck if this becomes her lowest selling debut week under Blackout. Edit again because I am dumb-lowest selling cd except for BOMT which I rarely count just because she was a newbie ha ha.

, when somebody predicted it to sell that much, all the stans were like: "No way it's selling less than Blackout. Still, it's actually a good number considering most factors, and they might end up predicting more after they get more numbers. I seriously don't know who Wiz Khalifa is, but good for him, that's a very good number.

Sounds like this opening is on par with Blackout, sales-wise. I consider this to be on par with Circus, since that album's first week sales received a great boost from the Christmas shopping season. I bet if FF was released in November she would have another +500k opener.

I hope Britney can top 300k, it's slightly underwhelming given the massive opening of HIAM but I guess its quick descent is only to blame. Still 300k would be pretty decent for her, especially in 1Q 2011. I just hope it doesn't collapse in the following weeks, a 1 million+ total would be nice

I bet if FF was released in November she would have another +500k opener. Circus had a much bigger lead single and had all the comeback hype, and arguably more promo... I don't think FF could have been that big, even with a Christmas release.

I predicted around 300k and it looks like I was right. This era is not doing so well as some people are trying to make it look so.

Britney is no where near flopping compared to Christina's Bionic sales. Last time I checked it was at 250 k so if Britney opens at 300k+ then she is doing great :)

Quite low numbers.
But good for Britney!

300,000 is good. I would have considered anything below 200,000 as a flop.

50k is totally expected for Snoop. He doesn't have any singles currently heating up, and his last album opened with 60k. He'll sell consistently and probably end up closer to 200k when its all done.
GREAT for Wiz.

good numbers, considering she always releases albums in the 4th quarter. 12 years and still solid

I expected at least 350-400k. But this isn't a total disaster or anything.

GREAT for Wiz. Yeah, i expected it too. And for someone who has been doing music for more than 12 years it's actually good. At least there are people who still listen to him.

Just about what I predicted for both Wiz and Britney. Good numbers.
