Its a crime that BB changed that exclusive retailer policy right when Blackout got released. They literally stole that #1 debut from her :'( It still hurts til this day, and she would now be tied for second place. It would have been a greater "crime" if an album selling 700k in one week didn't even chart. What about when Michael Jackson had all of the top 9 selling albums but none were allowed to chart.... If the 700k for one album is a crime then the 1million + in sales for two months straight must be an even bigger crime.

Femme Fatale opens just a tad less than Hard Candy. Interesting. How is that even remotely interesting?

well, she may have sold less than 'Blackout', her 'less successful' studio album so far and with two successful singles, that's kinda bad imo I hope she can sell a bit more when Soundscan's final numbers come out. Don't get me wrong: it wasn't a bad opening week by any means, but I wanted it to cross the 300k mark at least.

It's not a bad opening, but for Britney Spears not crossing 300k with 2 hits is somewhat disappointing imo. And to sell less than her "flop" album? idk.. I have to agree.

278K is definitely a little disappointing IMO but it's not completely horrible or anything. As long as the album has legs, I don't care, but I don't think FF will have legs honestly.

278K is respectable. Not disappointed. Another #1 for Britney, 6 #1's overall.

I just think if your gonna change a rule, it probably shouldn't be in the middle of the freakin week. Jive would have def. pushed the album forward/back had they known BB was going to change the policy. This. There's no arguing around it, period. You don't change the rules in the middle of a game.

Albums sold exclusively to one retailer were not eligible for the BB Hot100, but rather their own special chart. That rule, however, was changed exactly one day before Billboard officially released the chart for the past week. Even after announcing that Britney would claim the #1 spot earlier in the week. The Eagles sold more that week and were albe to claim the #1 spot. Now the Eagles DID sell more, a lot more and deff. deserved that #1, but not like this. They changed the rules one day before the chart release. Had JIVE known this they probably would have chosen a different week for 'Blackout'. Strategy plays a huge part in the charts, and changing the rules at the end of the week completely throws everything off.

I don't know why people still live in the past. That already happened. Time to move on. She's got two more #1 albums after that. Yes, she could have had a perfect record, but it's not like Britney can't get another #1. She'll get more #1s till she stops making music

Beyonce is a 100% for a solo artist(3 for 3) and a 4th one if pretty much assured :) Nice opening for Britney. A little disapointing seeing that HIAM and TTWE are hits and it's "BRITNEY FRIGGIN SPEARS" but it's still solid and a very good opening this day and age. I do wonder where Bey will opening with(I'm hoping for atleast 300k). Nice gain for Katy aswell :) Alicia Keys is 3 for 4. Beyonce and Britney are the few that are most likely to debut at #1

Seriously- no point in saying "you don't" do this or that, because Billboard will do what it feels is just and what it did back then to change the rules indeed was just- and it would be just regardless of who would have been "robbed" of a No. 1 peak.
And, the discussion is in regards to new-release albums, not catalog albums that saw huge gains following extraordinary circumstances (in MJ's case, his passing).
The "Grey's Anatomy" release was digital only, I gather?

^Sure- but talking about it does not change the facts of take anything away from the Eagles album's remarkable sales achievement for that week.
Anyhow, interesting to note that Circus sold notably more than "Womanizer" did upon its release, but this new album didn't approach sales of "Hold It Against Me." I doubt the time of year for the release has much to do with anything, as Spears' mega-fans have shown how rabid they are in their buying new releases.

Who cares? Britney wasn't the #1 seller by a huge margin so she didn't deserve the top spot. It was a dumb rule to begin with, so it was ok that they changed it.
The Eagles also sold more in two weeks than Blackout in it's entire run.
Those sales for FF are good for an album today, but considering alll her hype it could have been higher, Chris Brown opened with almost as much.

True...I was mad at first but the top selling albums should be #1...was also glad when they changed the billboard 200.

Why would a video soften the second-week decline? Either way, it's going to drop by at least 60%. Plus, it's not like the HIAM video helped out that track. Most albums sell the bulk of their copies in the first few days, unless it's by an act that appeals to a wide spectrum of audiences- this album/act really doesn't. it could soften as like how most albums that have a new video release get gains the next week, not huge, but gains. -- 44 E-40 HEAVY ON GRIND/EMI 11,922 -- REVENUE RETRIEVIN': GRAVEYARD SH -- 45 E-40 HEAVY ON GRIND/EMI 11,641 -- REVENUE RETRIEVIN': OVERTIME SHI mistake? im happy for brit. hopefully she can sneak a 2nd week at number one, it ll be close with adele

Female artists with the most #1 albums: 1. Barbra Striesand - 9 2. Madonna - 7 3. Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey - 6 Its a crime that BB changed that exclusive retailer policy right when Blackout got released. They literally stole that #1 debut from her :'( It still hurts til this day, and she would now be tied for second place. So you would rather of had her claim the #1 selling album of the week even though another album sold over 400,000 more copies during said week? Besides, it may have been another #1 album but she would have also gotten a lot of flack for it.

Elton John's album also benefited from the following, according to HITS:
Rocket Man Number Ones is back on the chart at #47, thanks to an aggressive low price at Amazon to promote its new Cloud Drive service.

How come I don't see much write up of her #1 debut?
