Leona was a two-hit wonder in the US, not unprecedented by any means.
She had a whole other album that didn't make a dent over here. No shade on her, plenty of good music fails to become popular in the US, but I'm actually surprised anyone expected Collide to go anywhere in the US.

1. MAROON 5 F/CHRISTINA AGUILERA - Moves Like Jagger: 126.098 (+ 1.360) 9. ADELE - Someone Like You: 92.184 (+ 3.705) That's the biggest update gap I've seen between the 2 songs ever. Could SLY be starting its ascent to #1 on airplay now? I thin maroon 5 has this week and two more weeks then slaydele will take the throne I agree. SLY is approx 8% behind MLJ on sales but 35% behind in airplay. I think once they are on comparable airplay SLY should be ahead on sales. Time will tell.

I still think that Agnes' "Release Me" (and even her follow-up "I Need You Now") were the best songs that Leona Lewis never recorded. Meanwhile, "Collide" sounds like a horrible knock-off those Agnes songs. Something is SERIOUSLY wrong with that.

Heard it for the first time a week ago in DSW and thought it could totally be a Leona song.

^That's happened to some acts who won Best New Artist winners, so perhaps not the best example- and, anyway, it is the Grammys, so... It's "Don't Hold Your Breath" vs. "Papi." (why is DHYB bolded?) The award for Best New Artists is considered as a curse for many musician, if they win that award, they are afraid their career will stop. And it's true, only a few former BNA winners could survive. Mariah, Xtina, Alicia, Maroon 5, etc The Beatles - Best New Artist of 1964

Hot Digital Tracks [SoundScan Week Ending September 18, 2011] Not that I don't appreciate the charts, but... It was already posted it in the appropriate thread -- last week's Hot 100. Posting it here again is unnecessary and actually confusing if someone eventually comes back to this thread because it is an old chart.

But how many non-mainstream names have topped the Dance Charts in the last ten years? That chart really doesn't reflect whether someone is "over" in the broader sense of the Hot 100 or Billboard 200.

Billboard's dance airplay chart consists of, like, five stations, so not a great gauge of success.

Umm no? Collide NEVER had an adds date on any format. However it did go to #1 on Billboard's Dance/Club airplay chart (woo!). Also, Collide had 0 promotion. Wait till the 2nd single (technically the lead single) is released. She'll be performing it on the US X-factor + various other shows. She's not done yet. So now nobody's interested in Leona but suddenly when the SECOND song comes out everybody will be?

Who would have thought a year ago that...
curvy British lady + stripped ballad + no video = #1 colossal hit.
Get them Adele!

I would not expect Lewis' upcoming album and singles to fare much better than the last project.

Yeah. I mean she's in the Top 10 of the Dance Club Play chart this week with Gloria Estefan and INXS. Nuff said.

All she needs is a good song. Her problem is that since Run, she has yet to top herself. for me and I'm sure for many others, she's remembered for Bleeding Love, Better in Time & Run. The rest was seriously not as good. When she releases something in that level, if not better, then people will start regain interest. Do you really think Collide is what gonna redeem her? She shouldn't be afraid to release a ballad, a good one, as Adelle paved the way for it to succeed, even in today's radio state which doesn't embrace it.

That's assuming she manages to come back with the right song. It's always odd to me when people say this. Obviously if anyone comes back with the "right song," they can be successful. The problem is they're not releasing songs that have what it takes to be successful. If it was so easy for her to go and record the "right song," what was the purpose of releasing "Collide"?

Billboard's dance airplay chart consists of, like, five stations, so not a great gauge of success. Pr3ssed much. Leona is #1 and you will deal.

I would not expect Lewis' upcoming album and singles to fare much better than the last project. Damn, your true colors are just out for the board to see. SMH. But how many non-mainstream names have topped the Dance Charts in the last ten years? That chart really doesn't reflect whether someone is "over" in the broader sense of the Hot 100 or Billboard 200. Yeah. I mean she's in the Top 10 of the Dance Club Play chart this week with Gloria Estefan and INXS. Nuff said. What is this supposed to mean? Gloria Estefan is a latin LEGEND and she's hugely popular to wide demographic of people all over the world. Btw, Shop Boyz have been #1 on the Hot 100. I'll go with the legendary chart.

I think there is an error here, as this update is the exact same as the one for yesterday.

I can only imagine that to her Collide is the right song. To me it's just another dance-shit music. It's such a waste when singers with a voice choose trends over quality. My point is, if she didn't think Collide would smash, why would she release it? she's a major point in her career that could cost her her career. To me, it's not a "good song". that's what I meant. And I think people in general agree, as it's not doing well (saying the least)...
