lol...I'm glad all of these artist's are flopping. It makes Bey's 317k opening and 1.2 Million look even better :) #Stan #Hater
But really, I'm a little surprised by the numbers just because Chris seems to have a pretty big online fanbase :x But oh well.

I don't see Trey scanning substantially better. He basically has no pop audience buying the album and his singles seem forgettable compared to those that led off his previous album. My feelings also.

Solid opening for him. This era has been a mess with his singles and lack of hit. There is no pop songs left on the album to be singles so I'm assuming they'll stick to catering to urban for the rest of the era which is smart.

No, I'm more talking about how disappointing most of the 2012 album releases have been. Forget albums hitting hitting 1.5 million anymore. Hitting 1 million will now be a huge deal. The only artist who can maybe hit 2 million scanned this year will be Taylor Swift and whomever releases the big Christmas album this year. I'm curious to see how much Alicia will sell. Alicia's last album lacked a big pop hit and sold what? 1.3 million? Expect less.

His sales are pretty good, considering Bieber debuted with 370k+ when most of people thought that his album would be the next 1 million debut.
Bottom line is the industry is depressing right now.

Album sales are down only 3% compared to last year and digital track sales are up 6%. Hardly that depressing.
People just need to realise that the industry is singles and streaming driven at the moment, in 5 years things can be different again.
The big pop stars are big as ever. There's no Michael Jackson scale of godlike megastar around but plenty of big names for all audiences.
The fact that Justin Bieber has "only" sold 500k in two weeks doesn't make him any less a superstar. His audience still listens to his music, probably right now as we speak. They just haven't walked into a record store and bought a cd like people like me used to 15 years ago.
People demand that they can listen to the music all the time, at work, at home, when jogging, in the bus. A cd is useless then. Streaming services are a must.

^They didn't do either the 1st day projection or have put the "weakend" ones yet.
Guess they're really enjoying the 4th of July holiday.

Yeah I got why they skipped the one-day projections as that was on 4th of July but what's significant about July 5th to skip the weakend projections?
Ah well, I guess it will just make the final chart all the more exciting.

YOUR 3-D WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: Chris Brown will score the #1 album next week, giving Sony Music its 20th week of occupying the top spot this year. And because the 4th of July is historically one of the lightest holidays in terms of music retail, new releases were scaled way back, with Brown’s is the only debut that will make the Top 15. To shake consumers out of their summer doldrums, Amazon did a multi-titled $1.99 Gold Box promotion, which we estimate generated sales north of a quarter-million albums on July 4th. As a result, a number of albums are way up this week. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
Chris Brown (RCA) 125-135k Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 80-90k Linkin Park (Warner Bros.) 70-80k Maroon 5 (A&M/Octone) 65-75k Katy Perry (Capitol/EMI) 50-55k Kenny Chesney (Blue Chair/Columbia Nashville) 50-55k Adele (XL/Columbia) 45-50k Gotye (Fairfax/Republic) 40-45k Fun. (Fueled by Ramen) 40-45k One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 35-40k Usher (RCA) 35-40k MMG Presents, Vol. 2 (Maybach) 30-35k The Black Keys (Nonesuch) 27-32k R. Kelly (RCA) 25-30k Jason Mraz (Atlantic) 25-30k Of Monsters and Men (Republic) 25-30k Florence + the Machine (Republic) 24-27k
Note: Expect a greater than usual margin of error this week due to uncertainty from the holiday.

Amazon sold 250,000 albums? Wow.
Is that good or bad for the industry?
Discuss..

So crazy that Flo Rida started off at #4 on iTunes, moved up to #2 and is still unable to crack the Top 15. Guess this was an Amazon week for sure then.

Cute.
One Direction is totes hitting 1.5 milli, y/y? I would say 2 million but I don't know if they're putting out a new album this year or not.

f**k. Amazon is helping the music industry sell more albums and make more money. Such a tragedy. This part's debatable. How much more money can you make when you slash the price 90%? I wouldn't be surprised if it's causing losses but Amazon is desperate to increase its market share so they're doing it anyway.
