I wonder how much of Frank's sales are coming from the buzz from his outing...

Are we really going to go there?
How in the world could him coming out create buzz, and make people want to buy the album? As said before, being gay or even bisexual is severely looked down upon within his target demographic (African American Adults), so its stupid to say he did that just to create buzz.
Frank has been hot/buzzed/talked about for many years already within the Urban community. Masses of people have been waiting for his debut well before anyone had the slightest idea of his sexual orientantion.
Anyway....when are the final numbers coming out? (no pun intended)

The physical copy comes out next week, but the digital copy is already out and currently #1 on iTunes. Got it! Thanks.

I'm wondering if it helped album sales at all by spurring people to check him out that otherwise wouldn't have (although I'm sure too he lost sales too. IDK)

Nice. I hope she stays above 8,000 next week without the sale. Amazed that she did just as well as Ellie, who has a top 5 hit.
19 7 FUN. FUELED BY RAMEN 44,325 +186% SOME NIGHTS Such a smash.
-- 27 LANA DEL REY INTERSCOPE 17,435 -- BORN TO DIE YES. I love a good 99-cent sale.
8 11 ONE DIRECTION SYCO/COLUMBIA 35,019 -9% UP ALL NIGHT Godammit. I hope they stay in the top 10 on SoundScan. I hate to see a good streak end.

And to have 4 albums fly into the top 10 to knock them out because of extreme discounting too, not falling out normally. Katy is the only one who stood a chance of being top 10 without the discount, with all the promo and such.

How often does Amazon do $1 sales? Do they count for Billboard?

Increasing in frequency lately. And yes they do, as long as they are more than 3 months old, I believe it is.

ETA: Damn just realized how fantastic Katy's sales are this week :O The album may not be a box office smash, but her people still must be very pleased that they made it :O

Adele's hanging on strong. F+TM almost did 30k! Hopefully the Soundscan #s will have it at 30k.

Discounting The Wanted's album to 99 cents still can't get it to sell half as much as One Direction's. lol.

(no pun intended) I don't think he was implying he came out FOR publicity. My understanding is the "coming out" is actually some copy in the liner notes. But the fact is it has been talked about a lot, and could easily help get the attention of some people who might not otherwise have heard of him. However, as far as I can tell from the buzz, the music would be selling itself regardless.

Seems like others have done the same. :) Discounting The Wanted's album to 99 cents still can't get it to sell half as much as One Direction's. lol. There's virtually no other promo for their single/album in the U.S. right now other than the inclusion of CTS in a movie so little will happen in terms of album sales now. CTS is starting to gain a bit in airplay and sales of the song may pick up as it gets closer to peaking. They practically just threw the EP/album out there with little fanfare so it's not bound to sell much.

LOL, The Wanted did like 10x the promotion that 1D did. Not to divert away from the HITS topic, but all they did in terms of performances were Ellen, Idol, The Voice, Billboard Awards, a couple of concerts for radio stations, then they did radio station interviews, and a mini gay club tour. But of course they got far more publicity for the shade they threw at Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry. That might have killed any chances of people going gaga over them. Even so, promotion does help, but if people aren't liking what they are hearing or they are not excited and motivated, they won't be buying what they are selling.

LOL, The Wanted did like 10x the promotion that 1D did. That's a pretty big hyperbole. I think it's fair to say that they both did a pretty good amount of promotion.

It may be Amazon-inflated but the fact that the entire top 16 is over 30k is impressive. In some weeks 30k is good enough for top 5 placement.

Perry's album also was discounted for 99 cents on Amazon mp3? Combined with the movie opening (yes, it didn't need to do big box office business), that sure as heck shot the album up.

Just realized that these number put both 1D and Lionel Richie at an estimate 934,000! I wonder whose RTD total will be higher with Soundscan

The Wanted did The Voice, Idol, Ellen, late night shows, daytime shows, a mini tour, and radio shows. 1D did SNL, GMA... and radio shows. And their tour. I obviously exaggerated but TW did much more (televised) promo.
