Unit sales for Albums priced below $3.49 during their first four weeks of release will not be eligible for inclusion on the Billboard album charts and will not count towards sales data presented by Nielsen SoundScan. *The rule also applies to reissued titles. *New Holiday/Seasonal titles must meet the minimum threshold through the final week of the calendar year. *Unit sales for albums or EPs with 8 or less tracks will not be eligible for charting if the retail price is less than the sum of the tracks on the release, multiplied by $0.39. *Minimum pricing for a multi-disc album (not a single disc with extra tracks), where the extra disc is audio content, will be $3.49 times the amount of discs being made available. *For digital-only deluxe editions, any extra content exceeding nine tracks would be considered the equivalent of an extra disc. Each additional 10 tracks thereafter would be the equivalent of an additional disc.
Unit sales for Digital Tracks priced below $0.39 during their first three months of release will not be eligible for inclusion on Billboard's digital songs charts.
If a retailer offering a title for less than the above stated prices is a daily reporter to Nielsen SoundScan, units will be removed for charting purposes solely for the dates in which the title was priced less than the minimum. *If a title was priced under the minimum during a portion of the day, all sales for that title on that day will not count towards the Billboard charts unless accurate transaction data for that title during the specific sales hours can be provided to Nielsen SoundScan for verification.
If a retailer offering a title for less than the above stated prices is a weekly reporter to Nielsen SoundScan, all units for that title sold by the retailer in the week will be removed for charting purposes unless accurate transaction data for that title on the sale date(s) can be provided to Nielsen SoundScan for verification .
Please note that the minimum pricing rule would not apply to any store-wide music liquidation sales.

I love how even the female pop artists are opening better. I wouldn't be surprised is Kesha and Rihanna open with more later this year.

Wait. Rihanna has a new album coming out? *shakes head* Of course. I'd be surprised if her label proves me wrong, which I highly doubt. Starting off during the holiday season is the best way for her to reach platinum.

Amazon sold 250,000 albums? Wow. Is that good or bad for the industry? Discuss.. They artificially inflated the chart once again. I dont like this kinda manipulation Why is everything a manipulation to you? A sale is a sale. Amazon doesnt care who sells what, as long as they are buying from them. Anyways, I love seeing how sale priced items can move around the charts so easily.

This part's debatable. How much more money can you make when you slash the price 90%? I wouldn't be surprised if it's causing losses but Amazon is desperate to increase its market share so they're doing it anyway. I would imagine Amazon is the entity taking the losses, unless one or more of these artists and/or their labels or whomever else agreed to field some as well for the sake of increased exposure.

Pre-2005, the holiday shopping season kicked off with Black Friday. Post-2005, the holiday shopping season begins with Rihanna's new album.

Yes, Amazon sells all those albums at a loss.
Just like with GaGa's "BTW." They sold those 99 cent albums at a big loss.

Anyone else completely surprised that Flo Rida is no competition for even THE TOP 15? When I saw what was releasing this week, I thought it'd be a competition between Chris Brown and Flo Rida.

Shame that the best album of the week, Lideres by Wisin & Yandel is not doing much. Their last one debuted in the top ten.

Album Chart Preview: Next Week's Billboard 200by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | July 06, 2012 9:13 EDT The Independence Day holiday (Wednesday, July 4) seemed to have frightened off some major album releases this past week, as relatively few big titles dropped on Tuesday, July 3. Among the most significant albums that hit retail were Chris Brown's "Fortune," Flo Rida's "Wild Ones" and Wisin & Yandel's "Lideres." Brown's "Fortune" set is aiming for No. 1 on next week's Billboard 200, according to industry sources. The album should sell around 130,000 to 140,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, July 8. The new Billboard 200's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, July 11. This past week's No. 1 album, Linkin Park's "Living Things," may fall to the No. 3 or 4 slot, depending on how the album sells over the weekend. Flo Rida's "Wild Ones" and Wisin & Yandel's "Lideres" are both aiming for a top 40 debut, with Flo looking at a 20,000 to 25,000 start and Wisin & Yandel going for 10,000 to 15,000. The latter will most likely also bow at No. 1 on the Latin Albums chart. Next week's Billboard 200 will also be complicated by a number of titles due to make great gains thanks to low sale pricing at Amazon MP3. An array of popular albums were discounted to 99-cents for one day only (July 3) by the retailer, and many of those will pop into the top 20. Watch for Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," Gotye's "Making Mirrors," fun.'s "Some Nights," the Black Keys' "El Camino" and many others to rise. On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), Brown is No. 1 while Justin Bieber's "Believe" and Maroon 5's "Overexposed" are Nos. 2 and 3. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants. Usher's "Looking 4 Myself" and Linkin Park's "Living Things" are Nos. 4 and 5, respectively, while Adele's "21" is in the No. 6 position. At No. 7 is Kenny Chesney's "Welcome to the Fishbowl," followed by One Direction's "Up All Night" at No. 8 and the "Maybach Music Group Presents: Self Made 2" compilation at No. 9. Closing out the Building Chart's top 10 is Flo Rida's "Wild Ones" at No. 10. Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title 1 NEW Chris Brown "Fortune" 2 3 Justin Bieber "Believe" 3 2 Maroon 5 "Overexposed" 4 9 Usher "Looking 4 Myself" 5 1 Linkin Park "Living Things" 6 7 Adele "21" 7 6 Kenny Chesney "Welcome to the Fishbowl" 8 8 One Direction "Up All Night" 9 4 Various Artists "Maybach Music Group Presents: Self Made 2" 10 NEW Flo Rida "Wild Ones" The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales. www.billboard.com/news#/news/album-chart-preview-next-week-s-billboard-1007516752.story

Woooah at Flo Rida could possibly have a Top 10 debut! Note - Billboard's chart was tallied BEFORE the Amazon deal. He'll manage top 15 at best.

Billboard has been wrong with Usher's placement the last couple weeks. Looking forward to see if they are right this week - a top 5 placement would be impressive.

The record industry needs a new Tool release bad. That's a Guaranteed 500K opening week.
They also need Eminem to get recording his next Album.
Also, Chris Brown beats women, it's sick how a wife beater can sell 125K in one week.

Stay strong, man. It must be hard to be a Chris brown fan. I haven't bought the album yet but CB fans are going through it...kind of reminds of back in 2004-2007 for us Britney fans. Well, hopefully it at least goes gold. After this, I suggest he takes about 9 months off and just re-evaluate his career. Things seemed to be getting progressively worse regarding the situations he either puts himself in or somehow is placed in...it's like the world is trying to tell him something... P.S. Don't let anyone make you lose your cool because people are waiting for it since you fans are in a vulnerable position...

So how is that comparable to Chris Brown. I guess Chris Brown has shown You can beat the living heck out of a woman and other women will still love you. It's just sick.
