So at long last we know what Rob's debut solo single sounds like. It sounds amazing, but at the same time not very HAC-friendly at all. It's more of a Pop/Rhythmic/Rock/Latin song, or something lol. Anyway, this is still Rob Thomas, HAC's favorite son. Any predictions?
I think this will go Top 15 based on name alone. Hopefully it will generate such a strong response that it can pull an "Intuition" and go Top 10 anyway.

You seriously think this song would peak as low as top 15? The lyrics are HotAC, and it's not like the sound is some gangsta rap song. Don't mean to sound rude...haha :)

I think this song is has so much potential to do well on HAC and wherever else it's released. Multi-Format Hit!
Prediction: 01

And it's not like Hot AC doesn't play Pop/slightly rhythmic material anyway. "Intuition", "Hey Ya" and "Over and Over" are good examples of that, and surely one of Hot AC's prime people will outdo those songs.

Come to think of it, "Livin' La Vida Loca" sounded nothing like everything else was playing at the time but went straight to #1, and like this new song it was A) upbeat and B) some sort of Pop/Rock/Rhythmic/Latin hybrid. Maybe this can do really well at HAC afterall.

Im hoping its a top 5 hit at Hot Ac. and Pop. But, radio has surprised me before by ignoring perfect songs for radio.

What do you mean it's not Hot AC friendly at all?
After all, "Smooth" has the existing record of total weeks at #1 on this format, and that had just that type of formula you speak of. 25 weeks at #1 with a Pop/Rhythmic/Rock/Latin flavor, that could never be considered bad.
I think "Lonely No More" should definitely be the first single to topple Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" from the top spot.
My Prediction: #1
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I've listened to this over and over all day at work today and i must say this is the catchiest song Rob's ever written. I can't get the hookout of my head where he says "you know i could never stand for this"... I love it and can't wait to hear the whole cd, i hear every song has a fresh different sound!!!!!!!! matchbox20-fans.com/Rob/Lonely%20No%20More.mp3

I really like it, but don't see this going to #1 on Hot AC. Its Rob Thomas, so it'll go Top 5, but I think this is more geared towards Pop radio.

This song will be huge!! I'll bet a million dollars this goes #1. I always get hooks in songs way before anyone I know. I'll tell my friends, in a couple weeks your gonna love this song & they'll be like, yeah, i know what I like don't tell me, and in a week or two they tell me even though i can tell they don't want to. Man, u were right that song did grow on me, It's good

The lyrics:
********************
Now it seems to me That you know just what to say But words are only words Can you show me something else
Can you swear to me that you’ll always be this way? Show me how you feel More than ever baby
Well I don’t want to be lonely no more I don’t want to have to pay for this I don’t want another lover at my door It’s just another heartache on my list
I don’t wanna be angry no more You’re the one who could never stand for this So when you tell me that you love me, know for sure I don’t wanna be lonely anymore
Ooooh Oooooh Oooooh Ooooh Now it’s hard for me When my heart’s still on the mend Open up to me Like you do your girlfriends And you sing to me And it’s harmony Girl what you do to me is everything Let me say anything just to get you back again Why can’t we just try?
I don’t want to be lonely no more I don’t want to have to pay for this I don’t want another lover at my door It’s just another heartache on my list
I don’t wanna be angry no more You’re the one who could never stand for this So when you tell me that you love me, know for sure I don’t wanna be lonely anymore
Ooooh Oooooh Oooooh Ooooh
What if I was good to you?
What if you were good to me? What if I could hold you till I feel you move inside of me? What if it was paradise? What if we were symphonies? What if I gave all my life to find some way to stand beside you?
I don’t want to be lonely no more I don’t want to have to pay for this I don’t want another lover at my door It’s just another heartache on my list
I don’t wanna be angry no more You’re the one who could never stand for this So when you tell me that you love me, know for sure I don’t wanna be lonely any more
Ooooh Oooooh Oooooh Ooooh
I don’t wanna be lonely any more I don’t wanna be lonely no more I don’t wanna be lonely no more I don’t wanna be lonely any more
******************
I bold-faced my favorite verse in the track.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I know this wasn't exactly a hit, but Rob Thomas first went solo w/ New York Christmas about 2 years ago, didn't he? 99 wmyx in milwaukee played it during xmas at least the last 2 years.

I like this.
It sounds like Enrique Iglesias to me, which is cool because I like his music.

I can elements of "Smooth" in the song, but overall it sounds nothing like smooth. Latin Rock is what stood out most about "Smooth." "Lonely No More" blends far more styles and what stands out most is Timbaland-like sound effects and a killer Pop hook. I HOPE this goes to #1 at HAC, but I just think it might be too radical a departure for the format. (And by departure, I mean from their playlist's, not from MB20's sound because that should be irrelevant on a solo record)

No Doubt has had a few songs go Top 10 with very rhythmic beats. I think your over thinking hit music. The PD's just know what will work and this is 100% Pop Music. Not hip hop,not dance, but POP!! I bet this jumps into the Top 10 at Hot AC faster than the Dixie Chicks fell out of it after that comment about President Bush..LOL

What Black Eyed Peas or Nelly song went to #1 on HAC? Anyway, hopefully I'll be proven wrong since this song will be a huge breath of fresh air on the radio.

The lyrics are kind of familiar Rob territory, don't you think? I can picture him singing this to his wife just like Bent and If You're Gone. The "why can't we just try" line reminds me of If You're Gone's "I think we should try". I'm loving the instrumentation on this song. And especially like the intro and the "like you do you're girlfriends" part. But I think those parts are the ones giving some MB20 fans fits. Their board has some really vocal distaste for the song in several threads.

Some of those Matchbox Twenty fans need to lighten up. It's a lightweight summer song that isn't meant to be thought provoking or life changing. It's a song that is meant to sound really good blasting from the radio as you drive along with the windows down.
"Smooth" wasn't all that deep lyrically either, so I don't know why everyone is so upset with this song.

Some people just have nothing better to do. Honestly, whatever you think on the matter, many of the people complaining are the ones most upset about Adam's departure. They wouldn't have liked the song anyway.

Rob leaving the band wouldn't have caused as much drama. I can understand not liking the song, but you would think that Rob had committed a crime against humanity with this single.

who cares about this devoted fan crap, it's stupid, it's not worth discussing.
What IS worth discussing is the fact, that in only 24 HOURS, 45 stations have already played this song (around 150 plays yesterday to be exact), more than half of the format, and it's already at #9 for this weeks biggest movers. It would not surprise me if this song is at something like +750 spins on 80+ stations by Sunday.
This could seriously debut on the Hot 20 in two weeks at a position around 17, then jump to 9.
This song will likely be #1 the same week his album comes out in late april, to say the less, Atlantic is not f**king around this time, they are really banking on Rob to be huge.

How do you describe this sound? The comparision I've heard everyone make is "Smooth" meets Justin Timberlake, and that sounds right. It's nothing that I expected; it's better. This HAC lyrics, mixed with dance/pop/latin beats, mixed again with an unbelivible vocal performance. There is no doubt in my it'll be a #1 on pop, and here on HAC, well, if "Smooth" can hold the record, and Rob Thomas is the puppy child of HAC, this is a #1 smash, no doubt. This may actually cut Green Day short on the long run that they deserve, but, oh well. This is a grammy award for sure.
Did I mention the vocals were unbelievible??!! Rob's voice makes this song, there is no doubt about. No way JT could pull off what Rob just did.
P.S.: I wish we could see the impact this has on HAC charts... there's no doubt this'll debut on R&R next week.

Why on Earth is Rob using a drum machine at the very beginning of this song, and why are there "oohh ohhs" in the song? That's something you'd hear in the 90's New Kids on the Block song...

I found this quote on MTV's website where Rob mentions a drum machine: "I've [always] gone into the production of the song thinking it has to have two guitars, a bass and a drum no matter what we do because that's what our band is," Thomas explained. "So it will be nice to be able to do a track with me and a piano. Or me and a drum machine. It's just good to be scared again. You know what I mean?"
