I'm pretty sure the last time it happened was with "Here Is Gone" by the Goo Goo Dolls. That had a gain of over +1100 at one point.

that was a great song, I never understood why it didn't become even more popular.
Anyways, well then, I'm sure this will take off in the same direction. I remember for a while Unwell had a bullet ranging at +600 for about a month then simmered down to +200 for about two more months

With U2, I believe ALL of their latest singles (back to their last album and perhaps The sweetest thing too) were instant top 10 hits on AAA. Name alone brought them up to that status on AAA. MB20 have suffered far worse on HAC radio with singles like "Last Beautiful Girl" and the horrible flop of "Downfall" being the two worst performing singles for them. In other words, MB20 have not gained the "name = top 10" success that U2 enjoys on AAA radio. MB20 is certainly a core HAC artist, but not an automatic shoo-in for the top of every HAC playlist for even a brief time.

Well.. isn't it easier to have a top 10 hit on AAA then on HAC or any other chart? AAA always seemed to me a bit controlled, in the sense that it's easy to predict who's gonna have a hit there and who won't..

However All I Need would have been a better choice for a 4th single than Downfall, I do feel Last Beautiful Girl if given a video and better promotion could have been top 10 at HOT AC but probably still wouldn't have the staying power of Push,3am,Real World,Back 2 Good,Bent,If You're Gone,Mad Season,Disease,Unwell,& Bright Lights

Seriously, I can't even think of a song that has a chance to dethrone this from #1 besides himself this summer. My guess is new Sheryl Crow, new Goo Goo Dolls, new Dave Matthews Band, Keane- Everybody's Changing, new Liz Phair, maybe new Coldplay, or HIMSELF will do it. Core Hot AC artists like Maroon 5 and John Mayer are done for right now.

I was watching Launch and John Mayer came up singing Daughters. I always seemed to compare the popularity of John Mayer to MB20 for some reason. Maybe cuz they are both big on Hot AC and had albums come out around the same time. Anyway, as I watched John sing Daughters I had the thought that Rob's being in MB20 affords him some more lattitude on trying new types of music in his solo career. Like he gets to go to the solo stuff to try different genres and people understand the freedom it gives him. I really can't imagine the media giving John Mayer the same lattitude if he were to come out with a latin/pop/dance song. What do you think?

Rob has doen a lot more than John, not too many artists can say they had one of the biggest hits of the century with Smooth, which is one of the main reasons I think Rob can get away with a lot, and the fact that he is a very underrated and respected writer for many popular artists, which people fail to know about, is giving him the spotlight. He could finally now be recieving the status he should be at. I mean if this works out well, Matchbox Twenty will really be the new Genesis.

a. All I know was that this past fall the Goos were finishing up an album, contrary to many beliefs that Rzeznik was doing solo stuff.
b. +907 right now on Hot AC, I haven't seen a song reach these numbers in years, not even Unwell could hurdle +700. I think this song will probably hit the Top 10, and not fall out of the Top 10 until a third single is released by him.
c. does anyone have the highest spin numbers for Disease, Smooth, Bent, or If You're Gone?

I heard this song twice over the weekend on a HotAC station. It was sandwiched inbetween the new 3DD song, Kelly Clarkson, and all the mid-tempo singer/ songwriter songs (Howie Day, Ryan Caberra, etc.) that are out right now. Honestly, this song is what HOTAC NEEDS right now. This song has some "edge" that many other HotAC songs do not. However, because of that, I can see where this won't fit onto some HotAC playlists and some stations might not add it, but I think they'll be losing out. I doubt this song has the longevity of most MB20 songs; however, I personally think it's a better first single than Disease was.
The two DJs who introduced the song were "very" excited about it. Hope it makes it to #1 on the format.
