I'd somewhat disagree with this prediction. Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" will get a more lengthy run on top. Rob Thomas will top the chart, I believe, but will probably have to standby at #2 for possibly as long as 4-6 weeks. Sincerely, Noah Eaton BUT... it'll crush the spin #'s that BOBD gets. Heck, it may even pass Green Day while BOBD still has a bullet. Lonely No More is now the heavy favorite for song of the year... period.

I found an on-line review of this song and thought it was interesting. I had the worry at first too that because of the "Lonely No More" song title that it was going to be a sappy love song. I was pleasantly surprised. Here's the review: On Tuesday, February 1st, the first single from Rob Thomas' upcoming solo album was released worldwide via AOL. For those who don't know, Thomas is the lead singer of matchbox twenty. Anyone who doesn't listen to matchbox twenty might still know Thomas from the ubiquitous "Smooth," on which Thomas collaborated with Carlos Santana. If you don't recognize that one, you've been living under a rock; Thomas walked away with three Grammy Awards for his lead vocals and for helping to write the song. In fact, Thomas has an impressive string of musical collaborations that includes Mick Jagger, Willie Nelson, and Bernie Taupin. Still and all, not everyone is a winner all the time, and I had some reservations about this one after having heard "Ever the Same" at the Sidewalk Angels benefit in New York last August (to which, some may recall, I had a less than enthusiastic reaction). And with a title like "Lonely No More," I was afraid we had another slow-and-sappy on our hands. I was pleasantly surprised. "Lonely No More" begins with an upbeat tempo--an odd mix of Latin and something vaguely industrial--that could easily find its way into dance club remixes. Like "Smooth," this song is catchy, and it'll get stuck in your head. It's practically designed to be omnipresent, to draw attention to itself and be successful. I'll be amazed if "Lonely No More" doesn't see high rotation, if only thanks to all the little teenage girls who love Thomas. But his crush-inducing looks aside, Thomas has a solid pop hit on his hands here. "Lonely No More" hits radio on Thomas' birthday (February 14th for those who aren't fans). It will also be featured on his first full-length solo album Something To Be, which is expected in stores on April 26th. blogcritics.org/archives/2005/02/02/175116.phpI like the "vaguely industrial" description. I immediately thought of the musical "Stomp" when I heard the first few beats of the song.

Us at the matchbox20(GD), knew the past few months were the "calm before the storm".
We all know that reguardless if we all like or dislike the song, it has Rob's name all over it, and almost everything he puts his hands on, turn to platinum.
Any singer that can sing Latin, pop, rock, whatever, is definately worth having in the music biz, because most singers can't sing outside of one genre of music, and do it well.

Gotta agree with ya Crazyfun1, he is definitely very versatile, and can surely play that up to his advantage....I think he has a definite edge over other male singer/songwriters out there, and we can only hope for the best for him with his solo CD!!! Can't wait!! Hope the CD debuts at #1, that would be awesome!!!! ;)

No Jet is #19. Rob's not even in the top 20 yet as of this morning! But while we're at it, anybody know what number Rob was on the final update last night? I'm guessing 23 or 24, somewhere around there.

He'll definitely debut in the Top 20 tomorrow.
He's probably at #21 right now, barely behind Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone"
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

After listening to this song a few times, I really like it. However, I feel that this song will have a quick burn rate on pop and HAC radio. I could definitely see this song stalling for a while in the top 10, possibly in the top 3 and then quickly being removed from playlists. Right now, I am not thinking this will be HAC's top song of the year.

It's already on the request countdown for my local pop station, and my HAC station placed it in high rotation already. I do think that this song being released about 2 1/2 to 3 months before the album drops leaves a little too much time... maybe the release date will be pushed up!

I think this song has really taken off on my local radio stations, and in just less than a week of release that's pretty hot!!! Gwen's stuff is just now getting more airplay after months of release, go figure!!

That's the building chart, not the actual chart. Thanks for the link though :)

Doesn't the building chart show the pace that each song is on track to finish at by the end of the week? If so, then #19 seems a bit low for Rob. If he's already at #21 after 5 or 6 days, I'd expect him to be at least in the top 15 by Sunday night.

What other radio formats do you think this song will be successful on? I'm wondering if it will get any play on Latin stations. What do you think?

Definitely not, but I could understand why you would think so. I mean other artist had latin-sounding songs and they don't chart. If it were a more "pop" artist like Justin Timberlake, MAYBE, but Rob is too rock for them, and you know, don't worry, he'll achieve enough success between Hot AC and Pop. Be ready for a possible #1 on both charts, especially with these numbers.

The release date is in 11 weeks from tomorrow. If you think about it, Rob should remove Green Day at #1 on Hot AC, maybe even POP by that time. With that said, and if Rob's promotion team is playing their cards right, he will easily sell the #1 record that week. However, I do agree a release in 6 weeks would be much better.

It shows his spins to date this week... obviously, his spins per day will increase over the week, so his position will increase.

Instead, we'll wait and see how long it takes for pop and HAC to drop the record once it peaks.

I haven't seen a song have +2000 in six days between two formats burn out in my life. Goo Goo Dolls had +1500 between two with Here Is Gone and that still did moderately okay. Disease had +1100, and yes burnt out, but this song is +900 ahead and already has hit more stations then either two did.
