I'm being skeptical in all the topics on this song because I don't think it's a good idea for people to scream #1 right away just because it has a huge bullet and it's a good song. It has been done many times before. Basically, I'm just trying to make sure that the people that have big predictions for this song stick to them and don't turn things around in 3 months in case their predictions aren't met... likewise for the burn factor and how people say the burn factor won't be high. It always happens that people get sick of a song quickly. Give this song maybe another 2 or 3 weeks before people will be coming thru the cracks saying how much it sucks a la boulevard of broken dreams. When I heard this on AOL first listen after 2 listens I said to myself #1 at both formats. I don't care about the bullet, you haft to have that golden ear!!!!!

It is really weird though, because while everyone is saying how much airplay it is getting, in St.Louis at the 2 HAC stations, www.wvrv.com and www.y98.com, I hear it maybe once a day...I wonder what's up with that?

Does the length of his hair affect the quality of his music? I don't think so.

Rob's buzzed 'do, is him back in the Tabitha's Secret and early MB20 days. I think he looks better and cleaner this way....and yes, his voice still sounds the same, so who cares?

I HATE when guys buzz their heads. HATE. (This goes further back than just Rob I ALWAYS think it looks worse on men when they shave off their beautiful hair)

Helloooo... obviously the length of his hair doesn't affect his music quality or voice DUH! Have a little fun people and lighten up. The only point I was trying to make is that of all the female friends I have talked to, they all prefer his hair long. I think this could affect his fan base. A lot of people love him for his music (me) but some love him for his sex appeal quality. Just some thoughts-lol -very sad in minnesota

I have to LOL @ everyone who thinks the song's bullet is this high based on hype. There's been NO hype on Rob's project until the song came out. People were not expecting this from him. This success came out of nowhere, not out of hype. Even someone like me, who's in the minority and knew Rob was coming out with an album, didn;t expect it to be a radio album. I was expecting a minor HAC hit with almost no media support. This bullet can't be compared to new singles from artists following up huge albums. This song is blowing up on quality alone, just like the good old days. Hype doesn't have to come just from fans or listeners. It can come from radio PDs who got this record, were totally excited about a solo project from Rob Thomas, and pushed it hard into their rotation right away. That to me is a form of "hype."

I'm just hoping this is Rob's "solo" look and he'll grow it back when this phase is over with. I think he looks much better with a little more hair, a la Disease video.
I too rarely like buzz cuts on guys.

To Love Plastic Love,
Just one question for you. How long have you been an MB20/Rob Thomas fan? It sounds like you judge them based on looks? If so, that is truly shallow. I've been a fan since Rob was in Tabitha's Secret. He's great no matter what he looks like, heavy, thin, shaggy, groomed, shaved, beard, whatever.... it doesn't change talent.

I'd say there's a 99% chance "BOBD" is going to end up at #1 for 2005. In fact, I'm willing to bet it will be #1 on at least two other formats as well.

I don't think it will matter where this song ends up as long as it does what it is supposed to do, which is to set Rob's album up. If it brings attention to his solo project and gets people interested in him, then how this song ends up really isn't important.

Don't want the whole world knowing who Rob is and all that does to his persona, life, etc.

I have said IN THIS SPECIFIC POST that it doesnt change the voice or talent. I have also stated more than once that I just plain HATE buzzed heads on ANY guy...whether it be Rob, another celebrity, or someone in my class. Buzzed or shaved heads on guys just annoy me. Its NOT a huge deal to me-like saying I dont like baseball caps...Or a dude saying he doesnt like short hair on a girl. My god, I even said in this post that it IS really shallow and wrong to stop liking someone because of physical appearance. Do you people read? I HATE when guys buzz their heads. HATE. (This goes further back than just Rob I ALWAYS think it looks worse on men when they shave off their beautiful hair) Notice in same post I said that it doesnt affect his voice. [I dont think it will hurt his fanbase (thats very shallow fans if it does) Oh and Ive been a fan since Push-sorry if that makes me unworthy because you liked him since TS Oh and Mr. Brightside-you are also a dude

Everyone is judged on their looks. This is America! ;) To divorce an artist's "look" or "looks" from his/her musical talent is just not practical in this age of "sex sells". And even those artists who are not particularly good looking, like Bruce Springsteen, cultivate and project a "look" that's sexy. It's just the nature of the industry and, for that matter, all of our everyday lives that looks matter. I'd bet that 90% of the female artists that are discussed on this board wouldn't even get a mention if they weren't hot. And for the record, I like skinny Rob with longer hair. But I can say that I fell in love with Rob's voice and songs long before I noticed that he was a hottie.

CHART BEAT BONUS - BILLBOARD 2/19/05 by Fred Bronson
DON'T DOUBT THOMAS: "Lonely No More" (Atlantic), the first solo effort from matchbox twenty's Rob Thomas, makes a smashing debut at No. 20 on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart. That's the third-highest new entry in the history of this survey.
The record-holder is "Thank You" by Alanis Morissette, with a No. 13 debut in October 1998. In second place is "Change the World" by Eric Clapton, with a No. 16 debut in June 1996.
On the Hot 100, "Lonely" is the Hot Shot Debut at No. 78.

That's awesome & true however just to add i think the hot ac chart is alot harder to get into the top 20 chart now than it was 5 years ago. The format is as big as CHR was then i think........

Well, looks like Rob Thomas is in good solid rotation on almost the entire HAC panel. The gains won't be +1000 anymore, but he should still see some steady gains for the remainder of the week and easily hit the top 10 before Sunday (heck, probably tomorrow).
Now we'll see if the song can ascend to the top and unseat Green Day who will undoubtedly take the #1 spot (again, by tomorrow).

At Hot AC it debuted at #23 this week. I believe it debuted at #23 last week. This week it jumped 23-11 if I'm not mistaking. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Major slowdown... +300 >:( Does this have a chance still? LOL. There's really NOTHING to worry about. +300 is still huge by HAC standards. How could it possibly sustain +1000 bullets at HAC while it's already in the Top 10? What happened was PDs rushed it into high rotation and it's already there in week 3, but they can only increase it by so much when it's already so close to the top.
