Chart Notes: - Adele leads a very competitive top ten for the 4th week in a row. Focus continues to gain on Adele, but Ariana sees herself in the runner-up position for this week for the second year in a row (see this week's retro chart).
- And let the holiday music period begin! This week there are two debuts - right now, the duet is only a minute long and from a tv commercial, but there is precedent for both. The duet is the second shortest song to appear in the top 20 - Stewart Copeland's theme for the TV Show "Dead Like Me" scraped in at #10 back in 2005 and was 58 seconds long.
- As for a commercial generating a top 20 visit, that happened in 2003 when Missy Elliott and Madonna combined for "Into the Hollywood Groove," which came from a GAP commercial. It went all the way to #1 in September 2003 (it's Missy's only #1, unfortunately). Neither artist has been back to #1 since then.
Our retro chart from just one year ago! This is likely the second year in a row where Billboard's #1 song for the year peaked the year before (it happened with Happy as well). Uptown Funk probably would have finished #6 or #7 year overall for my chart, but having it's chart run halved between two years hurt it a bit. It was also a good week for Ariana, who had two songs in the top 3, including a huge debut for Santa Tell Me. She'd have to wait a couple more weeks behind Bruno to get to #1 though. Love Me Harder unfortunately just got beaten to #1 and had to settle for a #2 peak.

Yasss gaga debut hopefully gets put on iTunes I'm honestly assuming it has to - there has to be demand from that commercial! And then I don't have to worry about charting something so short.

Good to see "Hello" atop, "Used to Love You" at #3 and "On My Mind" in the Top 5. Also, "Breaking the Doors" enters in the Top 10 and "Love Me" and "Adventure of a Lifetime" keep climbing.

Chart Notes: - Adele leads for a 5th week, becoming the third song to spend 5 weeks at #1 this year after Truffle Butter and Uma Thurman.
- The token Chanukah song this year is the Latke Recipe by the Maccabeats - a parody of "Shut Up and Dance"
- December is always a crazy chart period as holiday songs dominate the month - no different this week as the biggest over goes to Jessie J's holiday entry.
And so the cycle starts back again. We are going all the way back to 1999 for this chart and what a sausagefest it was! Stone Temple Pilots had a huge chart hit with Down. Not only was it a 9 week #1, but it was an interrupted streak with 98 Degrees the final number of the 90s.

Not just Adele on top, but Nathaniel in the top 5! :) And "Mambo #5" was my last #1 of the 90s (5 weeks I believe).

Chart Notes: - Adele reigns for a 6th week becoming the year's longest #1. The last song to spend at least 6 weeks at #1 was Blurred Lines. 8 weeks.
- Finally got around to adding Here to the top 20! It should do well once the holiday song madness ends.
- The top five sees the Bang Bang team reunited - each one Ariana, Nicki, and Jessie are represented in the top 5.
Jumpin Jumpin peaked very alte on my chart. The rest of the world had already moved on to Independent Women. Still one of my favorite songs. Billy Gilman would topple Destiny's Chil the following week after a big debut. He remains the youngest person to hit #1 on my chart (He was 12 at the time!) Scott Weiland's death this week made me check on his chart performance and I found something interesting. Stone Temple Pilots are one of only two acts (Whitney Houston is the other) who had had a #1 in three different decades - Down in 1999, Sour Girl in 2000, and Take a Load Off in 2010. Weiland also managed to hit the top 10 as a solo artist in three consecutive decades (his last top 10 appearance was with a Christmas song in 2011). He hit #1 on his own with his version of Time of the Season in 1999 from the Austin Powers soundstrack. For added measure, Fall to Pieces by Velvet revolver hit #8 in 2004.

Oh good "Here" jumped in. Next week, Adele says goodbye and Coldplay jumps 9-1. K? Yas at your throwback chart! "Case of the Ex", "Jumpin Jumpin" and "Most Girls" still go hard. Limp Bizkit.
