Chart Notes:
2009 was probably the last year I was riveted to American Idol, though I watched it passingly for the next couple of years. And no chart was more Idol-heavy than those in May of 2009. In addition to that year's top two, Josh Gracin was in the chart for what ended up being his last time. Telluride would eventually rise to #2, being held out by Green Day. IN addition to those three, Daughtry was at #7 with "No Surprise" and Kelly Clarkson was at #9 with "I Do Not Hook Up".
At #3 was the #1 for 2009, Zero, which is still f**king flawless.
And at #6 - Adele, who was charting for the first time with "Right as Rain," a song she had performed on Ugly Betty a few weeks earlier.
- This and next week's chart will be early because I won't be around much on either subsequent Monday. Thanks to several big drops, seven songs move up at least three spots for the second week in a row. Adele makes the biggest move, charging up eight spots. Adele first appeared on my chart seven years ago this month (see below)
- This is Kesha's first foray into the top ten, probably have held it against her too long for holding out Bad Romance at #1 too long. If anything, Blow should have charted. Oh well. She's there now, along with Zedd, who makes his fifth top ten appearance. (following Clarity, Break Free, Addicted to a Memory, and Beautiful Now)
- Alicia Keys makes her first appearance on the chart since "Girl on Fire." At the time, Girl on Fire peaked at #6, and become her 17th top ten, enough at that time to tie her with Madonna for most top tens by a women. Beyonce has since surpassed both of them. (Madonna held that title from the very beginning until 2014 when Beyonce's Partition hit the top ten.)
- Bonus note - Justin Timberlake gets a 9th top ten this week. He last charted with Mirrors, which hit #9.
