Chart Notes:- Bonnie Raitt takes an unexpected reverse of course in a weak chart week to get her 7th #1, which knocks out Beyonce's 7th #1 Formation, which knocked out Coldplay's 7th #1 Adventure of a Lifetime, which knocked out Adele's 7th #1 Hello. It's probably time for some new blood...
- ...which should be helped by the four new debuts at the bottom of the chart. Thanks to March Madness , there's a number of songs waiting in the wings that should chart, but for now, these are ones that I really liked enough to chart.
- This is the first week in which Adele is not in the top 3 since October!

We're really dialing it back this week, all the way to the last millennium. Two of these acts are no longer with us - Whitney's Heartbreak Hotel debuted big and moved up to #4, and never got higher than that. SHe'd have a couple more top ten hits that year, but this was her biggest. Whitney would go on to see her Star SPangled Banner hit #1 in the wake of 9-11, and would chart one more time before her death almost ten years later with "Million Dollar Bill" in August of 2009 (it also hit #1). Interestingly, the Beastie Boys were also present on the the top five with Whitney in August of 2009. While she was at #1, The Beastie Boys were at #5 with Too Many Rappers. As for Cher, well, yeah. If it's not too much to ask, how did you get the format? I might start my chart this week& saw that other people have different formats I just played around with the table tool, and got some advice from other people on here how to do it. I used to format in Excel and than format an image and upload that, but this is easier if I need to make a change (for example, this week I initially gave the wrong song the "biggest fall" denotation, so I had to change that). You can quote my post and check the BBCode to see how it is done.

Chart Notes:- Any of the songs in the top four this week could have likely been #1 but ultimately Troye Sivan manages to leapfrog over everyone else to grab it.
- Ariana Grande has her second consecutive top ten debut. DNCE also debuts after kicking around below the top 20 for a few weeks.
- It's been nearly six years since Mike Posner's Cooler Than Me peaked at #3. That's the longest wait between 1st and 2nd top ten since Death Cab For Cutie waited 6 years, and 2 weeks to get their second top ten (Ghosts of Beverly Hills) last October. The all time record between the first two singles belongs to Enrique Iglesias who went to #2 with Bailamos in September of 1999 and then managed to miss the whole entire decade following, not appearing until January of 2011 with Tonight (I'm f**king You), which also peaked at #2.

This week in 2000 featured an unusual chart in which all top five songs were all eventually #1. In this particular week, NONE of the songs were former #1s meaning they were all still climbing. It speaks to the early days of my chart where songs moved at a slow pace that Maria Maria wouldn't hit #1 until June! And To Zion somehow appeared nearly a year and a half after Lauryn's album dropped, and set a record that still stands today for longest trip to #1 (14 weeks). Forgot About Dre was Eminem's first #1 on my chart - today he holds the records for most total #1s. (Beyonce is tied if you count her two number ones with Destiny's Child.) Chart Notes:- Nick Jonas and Tove Lo have a high debut this week as Close debuts at #13, three points higher than his brother's group DNCE. I don't think I've ever had siblings compete against each other on my chart, so this is a first.
- Ariana Grande nabs her sixth top three hit. All songs on which Ariana have led previously hit the top 2. Only "All My Love" on which she was featured missed the top 5. It peaked at #9.
- I'm just as surprised at myself as anyone that Meghan manages to chart again. I thought All About That Bass would be it for her on my chart, but I've lived "No" so many times (as I'm sure all you have) that it's completely relatable. I'd never reject someone as rudely as Meghan though.
- Extra note: Adventure of a Lifetime falls off this week, officially closing out 2015. All other songs on the chart this week debuted after the start of the year.

2001 had a dull week in which the top 5 barely changed. It is notable for being the Black Eyed Peas' first week ever in the top five. "Request Line" was pre-Fergie and remains their biggest hit on my chart. They would hit #1 one more time in August of 2009 with "I Got a Feeling," which spent 2 weeks at the top. 2001 was also a big year for Macy Gray. Not only would she have her own solo top ten later that year (Sweet Baby which peaked at #2), she would be featured on another #1 later in 2001(Demons from Fatboy Slim). And then she never hit the chart again. In fact, most of this top five would only have one more song make the chart. Dave Matthews being the exception as he'd have a few more top ten hits and a couple #1s before the decade was out. Pop's Retro Chart - This Week in 2001 | LW

Chart Notes:- April Fool! I will be out most of next week, so I am doing the chart early.
- Nick Jonas and Tove Lo both get their third top ten with Close. Nick previous made the top ten with Jealous and Levels. Tove previously hit #1 with Habits, and had a top ten with Timebomb a year later.
- Shane Filan has his second top ten with Me and the Moon. He previously peaked at #9 with Knee Deep in My Heart.
- Extra note: Kelly Clarkson nabs a 19th top ten, which pushes her past Nicki Minaj and Madonna in the all time list. She is now tied with Lady Gaga. Only Beyonce and Eminem have more.

There are a couple interesting things about the 2002 chart - for one, it features two one-hit wonders on my chart - first, New Wet Kojak in what is probably one of the most obscure number ones ever on my chart. Once their run at the top ended, women would go on to dominate the chart for nearly the rest of 2002, not giving it up until November when Nirvana would come out of nowhere to debut at #1. The other one hit wonder is Ashanti (!) I had to go and double check because I thought for sure What's Luv? charted, but Ashanti hit #1 with Foolish and then never touched the charts again. Shakira was on her way to a 2nd #1, and she would be the first act on my chart to send three songs from an album to the top 2. (This record has been surpassed several times since then, most recently by Ariana Grande who is one of several who did it with four songs). Pop's Retro Chart - This Week in 2002 | LW

Chart Notes:- Maren Morris leapfrogs over the top three to take the #1 spot, becoming only the 2nd female country singer to hit #1 (following Kacey Musgrave's Biscuits last year).
- Bonnie Raitt moves into the top ten for the 15th time. That extends her record of longest span of top tens as she had her first top ten back in May of 1998.
- The Jonas brothers switch off the biggest jump duties as this week DNCE gets the nod with the group's first top ten.

Beautiful topped the 2003 chart, which is interesting in retrospect for a couple reasons: 1) Pharrell would not reach #1 for another decade until "Get Lucky" on which he was also featured hit #1 in May of 2013 (it ended up being 2013's #1 year-end song) and 2) Christina Aguilera's Beautiful had hit #1 just a couple months earlier. Probably the most WTF item here is the Sixpence song - I don't even remember charting it, but managed to spend three weeks in the top 5, peaking this particular week. Peaking at #6 this week just off the list - "Clocks" by COldplay in what was their first top ten. They wouldn't see another song on the list until Violet Hill hit #1 in 2008 (that year's year-end #1). Pop's Retro Chart - This Week in 2003 | LW
