It's been over three years since Sara's last proper album, The Blessed Unrest, which received an album of the year Grammy nomination. She said on Twitter today there's a big announcement tomorrow on the Today Show (9am ET). Unless it's something related to Waitress, could it be a new album announcement? I guess we'll see!

I'm praying it's a new album. I've stanned for her since "Little Voice."

Her announcement was that she's taking over the lead role in Waitress, beginning March 31st. I already saw the musical back in the summer, but I may have to go again just to see Sara.

Her taking over after Jessie leaves made my week! Best news ever. I saw Waitress last year, will see it again on Jessie's last day, will see it again once Sara starts, and then will see it again on Sara's last day, lol. That's how much I love Jessie, Sara, and the show. Just take all my money.

Sara Bareilles to Receive Songwriters Hall of Fame's Hal David Starlight Award: ExclusiveJoining some of the music industry’s most iconic names, singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles will receive the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Hal David Starlight Award in 2018. The Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony, set for June 14 in New York City, will induct Bill Anderson; Kool & The Gang's Robert “Kool” Bell, Ronald Bell, George Brown and James “JT” Taylor; Stephen Dorff; Jermaine Dupri; Alan Jackson; John Mellencamp; and Allee Willis. Sir Lucian Grainge will receive the Howie Richmond Hitmaker Award. Created in 2004, the Hal David Starlight Award is given to “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry via their original songs,” according to a press release. The award is an ode to David's lasting impact as a lyricist -- most notably with frequent collaborator Burt Bacharach. Bareilles fits the bill, as the 38-year-old talent has been nominated for six Grammys in her career, including nods for album of the year (The Blessed Unrest, 2013) and song of the year ("Love Song," 2008). "Sara Bareilles is a force to be reckoned with in popular music," commented SHOF co-chairs Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. "From her self-described 'piano-based pop soul' sound to her tremendous success with her long-running Broadway show Waitress, Sara has been a pioneer, forging new ground as a singer-songwriter with every step in her career." President & CEO Linda Moran added, "Her songwriting speaks to our vulnerabilities and strengths in her singular voice, often from a women's point of view, and she is a natural choice for the Hal David Starlight Award. Her talent resonates as much today as it will tomorrow, and we welcome this opportunity to honor her at our Annual Awards Gala." As for her songwriting process, the Sony/ATV Music Publishing writer maintains an honesty not often seen in the music industry. In a 2015 Billboard interview, Bareilles explained the source of her lyrics. “I have a lot of baggage, which I have to process and negotiate on a daily basis," she said, explaining how being told what to wear as a woman in music "triggered a lot of that stuff. Like what I have to offer as a mouthpiece and a mind is not enough. It made me want to rage on behalf of all those girls who feel like they're being asked to be something they don't want to be in order to fill in a blank." She received a Tony nomination for writing the music and lyrics to the Broadway smash Waitress, and took over the musical's lead role for a spell. On April 1, she'll continue exercising her acting chops in the live TV musical production of Jesus Christ Superstar on NBC.

Sara Bareilles-J.J. Abrams Musical Dramedy Gets Apple Series PickupThe tech giant has picked up 10 episodes of half-hour series "Little Voice." Sara Bareilles is taking her act to Apple. The Grammy- and Tony-nominated singer-songwriter is teaming with J.J. Abrams for a half-hour dramedy called Little Voice, which has landed at the tech giant with a 10-episode, straight-to-series order. Described as a love letter to the diverse musicality of New York, Little Voice — which takes its title from Bareilles' first album — explores the universal journey of finding your authentic voice in your early 20s. Bareilles (Broadway's Waitress) will provide original music for the series, which will explore the search to find one's true voice — and then the courage to use it. It's unclear if Bareilles will have an onscreen role as that decision has not yet been determined. Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam, Stepmom) will write and direct the first episode of the series after collaborating with Bareilles on the Tony-nominated Waitress. Nelson will serve as showrunner and exec produce alongside Abrams and his Warner Bros. Television-produced Bad Robot, with the company's head of TV Ben Stephenson (Westworld) also on board. Bareilles will also be credited as an exec producer. News of Little Voice arrives days before Bareilles will co-host the Tony Awards alongside Josh Groban. The series caps a hot streak for Bareilles that includes writing the music for (and starring in) Broadway's Waitress. She earned her first Tony nomination (for best score) and a Grammy nomination (for best musical theater album) in 2017 for her work on the production. She also recorded the music from the show and released it as What's Inside: Songs From Waitress, her fourth studio album. She also penned the original song "If I Dare," which was featured in last year's Billie Jean King feature Battle of the Sexes. All told, Bareilles — who also starred in NBC's live production of Jesus Christ Superstar — has received six Grammy nominations in her career since the 2007 release of her first single, "Love Song," which was featured on her debut album, also called Little Voice. Her hits have included "Kaleidoscope Heart," "King of Anything" and "Brave." She's repped by Paradigm. For Abrams, Little Voice is the mega-producer's latest TV foray. It joins the upcoming Stephen King anthology Castle Rock at Hulu, HBO's Demimonde (the first pilot he's writing in nearly a decade) and Lovecraft Country. He's also an exec producer on HBO's Westworld. Little Voice marks Abrams' Bad Robot first half-hour series order, which has been a priority for the company. Abrams is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman. Little Voice is Apple's latest straight-to-series order. It joins a roster of scripted programming including Hailee Steinfeld comedy Dickinson, Octavia Spencer drama Are You Sleeping, an untitled morning news drama starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, anthology Amazing Stories, animated comedy Central Park, a thriller from M. Night Shyamalan, a top-secret series from La La Land's Damien Chazelle, a Kristen Wiig comedy, the Stephen Knight futuristic drama See and a space drama from Battlestar Galactica's Ron Moore. Still to be determined is just how Apple will distribute its scripted originals. This is the first series pickup for indie studio Warner Bros. Television.

I was right. We're not getting a new album from Sara this year. Or maybe she'll pull a Waitress and release a new album to coincide with this show.
In any case, it's exciting to see her venture into TV and working on a new series with JJ Abrams. The woman is not messing around.

She's gunning for that EGOT nominee. She just needs an Oscar nomination now.

Why is Twitter freaking out that this might actually be her album??? Hmm... must be because she didn't specify 'single' in her reveal. It'd be excellent if it ends up being the full album, but my intuition says it's the first single.

She used the #appeteaser which stands for appetizer, so I also think she will release a single instead of an album this Friday. However, it may also imply that the album is called Armor.

She also posted on Instagram with a new announcement and didn't say single then either.

It’s different from her. It reminds me of a Fiona Apple song from the 90s. I will see how I feel after multiple listens.

Sara can do no wrong in my eyes so I already love this. The lyrics, the production, the vocals (my goodness, that voice). Everything about it is utter perfection. Can't wait for the video and of course the album which she said will be released early next year.
God bless this woman. Those five years waiting for new music was a long wait.
