RUTH is #7 on radio? That's crazy. It really doesn't sound very '80s to me. It kinda works in the context of pop/alternative music today. Really? The singing style is nothing like almost all the other songs in the rsdio top 10. Today's music is as distinguishable as to what year the music was out due to the singing style - as late 70s disco was due to the music. Like, really. I've been on a huge '80s tip for the last few years and I find this one distinctly different, which is why I think it wasn't a big hit initially but connected with audiences today. It's the true example of "ahead of its time." I don't feel like today's music is that distinct to stop something like this from being a hit by say... a new pop/alternative artist.

Perhaps musical yes. Even singing yes, it was different for the time. But then Kate always sounded distinct. it does not though sound like today's vocals in the least. It's not whiny (not quite the word I want, but I honestly lack the ability to come up with a good term to describe it more accirately) is a it's not breathless, needing to pause mid sentence and more almost talking than traditional singing (obviously I am not referring to straight up rap, but what you'd hear on pop radio) aToday's vocals are very distinct.

Been a long time Kate fan, while RUTH is good, it's not in my Top 10 by her I'm just disappointed it wasn't one of her lesser known songs having a chance to shine, rather than one that did break through before,

Been a long time Kate fan, while RUTH is good, it's not in my Top 10 by her I'm just disappointed it wasn't one of her lesser known songs having a chance to shine, rather than one that did break through before, There is certainly time for people to acquire a taste for Cloudbursting or Wuthering Heights or Babooshka or any other number of songs. Let us hope that this song serves as a gateway for people to explore the rest of Kate Bush's body of work, and not merely a one-off that gives her a deserved mass appeal hit at long last. She may end up being the most unlikely of one-hit wonders, but we can all hope for more.

Pretty surprising First Class had a bigger peak than As It Was, I guess the AM streams were stronger

RENAISSANCE
US Apple Music (after 6 days):
Really good hold up that only after 6 days are BREAK MY SOUL and ALIEN SUPERSTAR wavering. yeah and still 5 songs in the Top 10, 10 songs in the Top 20. makes up for the more steep Spotify decline nicely, especially considering Apple Music has a greater market share in the US. would love to see "Alien Superstar" in the Top 10 but won't hold my breath. #12-14 seems more likely.

She can settle for Break My Soul being the only hit off the album, especially considering that it'll be her first real solo hit in well over a decade.

This is a fair question. To use the triathlon example, someone could not be the top person in any of the 3 events but still win the triathlon because they are the best in the aggregate. That seems fair. But winning by aggregate is boring, though. Putting an emphasis on winning the actual events, like a winner's bonus, will make the fight for the finish more exciting. I don’t think you understand how charts work [17]

But winning by aggregate is boring, though. Putting an emphasis on winning the actual events, like a winner's bonus, will make the fight for the finish more exciting. I don’t think you understand how charts work [17] I do, but these current rules, along with the downturn in consumption, hasn’t been providing any excitement to the charts lately. Aside from Wait For U vs. As It Was, there really hasn’t been an exciting race for #1 this year. The changing of the guards (EOM -> WDTAB, WDTAB -> Heat Waves, Heat Waves -> AIW, AIW -> ADT) have been so anticlamatic, and some of the transitions have taken longer than it should have. If it were up to me, I’d get rid of sales from the Hot 100, and reward a metric bonus to the song that finishes #1 in streaming and radio. That would add a layer of chaos and unpredictability, which will create some excitement in the charts.

Charts aren’t meant to be exciting, they’re simply meant to reflect the biggest songs of any given week based on total consumption. That’s it. It’s a plus if they are exciting, but rules don’t need to change just because they aren’t.
Please stop beating a dead horse lol

Yep, charts are all about coincidence, what happens to be out and popular on a certain timeframe. Sometimes it's "exciting", usually it is not.

For me anyway, it is a useful tool in keeping up with music trends but, I actually get my own excitement by listening to music I personally enjoy, Oftentimes, what I listen to may not necessarily be the #1 song on this chart (although it could be) I suggest use the charts as a reference for your own purposes but find your enjoyment in the music itself Rather than continually complain about the formula week after week, you could also (as many people do) create your own chart

I'd bet that you'd find the charts much more interesting, exciting and surprising come Monday release - if you stopped reading predictions and following daily streaming and radio numbers.

Anyone else a little surprised at how strong As It Was is holding on on Spotify? Yes, especially considering the 2nd single (LNT) is about to peak and the 3rd single (MSR) has been pushed to Pop. I wonder if this going to stunt MSR’s growth. I would have thought with two other singles that they would have moved on from AIW by now.

Break My Soul is finally starting to close the gap between it and First Class but it still ways to go before it’ll pass As It Was, if it ever does.

"2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)" starting to make a dent in the radio chart. Can't wait for it to soar into the top 10 on radio with little resistance!

If it were up to me, I’d get rid of sales from the Hot 100, and reward a metric bonus to the song that finishes #1 in streaming and radio. That would add a layer of chaos and unpredictability, which will create some excitement in the charts. Would it, though? It's not like these are literal athletes racing each other to finish in first place in each metric. If there was a set percentage boost in points for finishing first in a metric, that percentage would be figured out very quickly and would be a known quantity, which predictors would integrate into their weekly predictions. We would still see those outcomes coming. Also, sales seem to be the most volatile metric, no? Adding more chaos and unpredictability? The number one on radio and streaming is generally known far before the week is over and, in some cases, at the beginning. Also, what if this boost just solidified an already-strong song's lead at number one? Seems like it would make it easier to have highly uninteresting weeks, in your sense, just as easily. Is that worth sacrificing the integrity of the chart and adding on more confusing rules?

If it were up to me the top 1,000 songs would be entered into a lottery style drawing aired on TV and picked one by one from 100 up to 1. It wouldn't be remotely accurate, but it would be exciting!! lol
