Honestly I was ready for another era a few months ago and the new songs did not change that.

She needs a new team, particularly an art director (her image was too samey from album #1 to this) and whoever is in charge of scheduling and promoting her singles needs to go as well.

Opening up to some non Dan Nigro writing camps would be cool too

i'm a little over literally ALL of her singles being abt an ex (not a bad subject at all, i just want variety) but other then that. yea this is pretty damn good and sounds like a surefire smash. really cool that this sort of music can get pop play again (and is bringing these sounds to the mainstream), 5-6 years ago this would probably only be able to get traction on alternative

also an i tripping or did she sample the among us sound cue right before the second verse (around the 1:10 mark or so)

Either the team got so arrogant from the success of Sour that they thought the songs on Guts would sell themselves. Or I can also imagine around the time that BIR was released that they also decided to go with Obsessed for the enhanced album and thought there was a conflict with releasing 2 punk bratty songs and so they did not seriously promote BIR and switched gears to GHB… either way, huge blunder and the team needs to go.

It’s funny, I have been thinking about their career parallels lately. For how much she gets compared to Avril, it is kinda eerie from a commercial success standpoint. Sour’s three huge hits even line up with Let Go’s 3 in terms of the type of songs they were (DL = I’m With You, Deja Vu = Complicated, G4U = Sk8r Boi).

Then on Under My Skin, Avril struggled with that punk Sk8r Boi sound/image she became so known for during the debut with Don’t Tell Me underperforming (like BIR/GHB for Olivia). Yet she still managed to pull one big ballad hit out of the era with My Happy Ending (eg Vampire).

Let’s hope for her sake the parallels end with these first two eras, since sure Girlfriend was maybe Avril’s biggest hit ever, but then it was all downhill for her commercial success from there and she never really regained big relevancy.

This absolutely boring ass era lol. I really tried with this but it's just not for me. Kinda weird how hard rafio is going for it. It kinda faded elsewhere.

Yeah I feel like the hype around this died within a week (at least for me).

I'm just perplexed at every single decision they made this era. The album wasn't even bad, mind you, even if a bit samey. But it felt like commercially she got carried by the goodwill of SOUR and did nothing to actually push herself forward. They're gonna have to put more effort next era to reach similar numbers. The deluxe was like the one perfect chance to actually breathe some life back into it and it was a one week wonder of mild hype.

Had this been released on a less busy week (or, y’know, two months earlier when she didn’t have an active radio single and was at the peak of her tour hype), it’d probably have held up better on streaming.

Her luck (by which I mean her team) this era has just been pissing me off.
