Might just be a me thing but she has exhausted this sound. She has 2 sounds, bratty punk and ballads.

None of her songs from the most recent album are as good as her debut to me.
This sort of reminds me of Mean Girls Cady/Regina stuff, but the topic has been well worn out because she's done this one so much now. This song is a lesser version of Jealousy, Jealousy.
The only single she's released that isn't about a love triangle of some sort is Brutal, and that wasn't even really released.

Might just be a me thing but she has exhausted this sound. She has 2 sounds, bratty punk and ballads. That’s a gross oversimplification of her versatility as an artist. The three singles from SOUR were all vastly different, and she’s leaned into some Pop (“so american”, “pretty isn’t pretty”) and Folk (“Can’t Catch Me Now”, “lacy”) lately.

I can’t figure out how her sound is overdone when she has like 30 songs total and more than half of them sound nothing like this.

This reached #2 on US iTunes like 7 hours ago and has just been stuck there. No debut on US Apple Music yet...

It’s climbing nicely. The explicit version and clean version are being counted seperately, strangely enough. Plus, there’s 17 songs from the new Future album above her.

Ever since I've heard it back when the vinyl rip leaked online, knew it's as good if not better than the released singles.
I'm loving them all but Obsessed is amazin' & it will be a smash. Why did they put it as a bonus track? Oh please, her team knew what they were doing.
It created buzz online by being so exclusive & they knew they'd go with it as the lead from the Deluxe edition. Shame her previous singles didn't get enough promo to become as big as they could've been but this one is a sure hit. Just sit back & enjoy the show. 🙂

I think the main issue is that the average listener probably isn't aware of any diversity in her sound, since her singles typically lean into the two lanes mentioned by Leonagwen. Driver's License, Traitor, and Vampire fall into the mid-tempo ballads category, whilst Good 4 U, Get Him Back!, and Bad Idea Right? fall into the bratty pop punk realm. The only song that doesn't fit into either category is Deja Vu, but it's not something entirely different and instead falls exactly at the mid-point of these two sounds. It would be good if they went for something completely unexpected as a single next time. I find it funny that you said that she has leaned into some 'Pop' lately. Is her music not already 'Pop'? What do you mean by 'Pop'? That is such a vague umbrella term, using it to showcase her versatility is so odd to me

I'm happy that it's doing well on streaming and making a big splash on radio the first couple days, but long-term I don't really see it performing any better than Bad Idea Right, because like that, it just doesn't sound too radio friendly to me.

I would say this is the most radio-friendly song on the album, bar "Vampire". Much more radio-friendly than "Bad Idea Right". I can see it going top 10 on Pop radio fairly easily. Gives me "Bad Guy" meets "Good For You" vibes. If her team plays their cards right it should do well and become another hit for her. Perhaps the second biggest hit of the album behind "Vampire".

I disagree, I would definitely say Get Him Back! (hence it already getting quite a bit of airplay) and Love Is Embarrassing.
