Both have big problems in their careers right now.

Camila seems to lack direction but i still think she can redirect her career to a more spanish and latin urban sound (maybe even some song in spanish could help).
And frankly i would release her song with Drake, on pop nobody cares about Drake and Kendrick's feud (which frankly is all kinds of pathetic anyway, at least past rap feuds were outside the mainstream and not about who is the biggest abuser).

Lil Nas X is in a bad position right now because he didn't realized that he is not the huge star he thinks he is. He avoided the one hit wonder syndrome which shows some talent, but going on the religious controversy is a big no (and Gaga can say a couple of things about that).
He is basically trying to be Madonna but Madonna was way smarter and know how to read a room and being ahead of times. The fact that every openly gay singer seems to go the androginous route like it's something really new and groundbreaking (as if Little Richard, Prince and David Bowie never existed) doesn't help him neither.

Both showed in the past a capacity to generate a hit when nobody was expecting it but this is not the song to change their momentum right now

I think it makes sense that they waited to release her collaboration with Drake. They would want the song to do well on streaming and other radio formats as well, so even if pop radio has only taken notice to "Not Like Us," pop radio performance isn't the only factor her team would take into account in their decision to delay the song's release.

I do agree with this, but I would also add that I don't think those offended by the religious controversy was the only issue. He'd already had a viral moment with the religious controversy in the "Montero" music video, so I think "J Christ" felt very "been there, done that" to even those who weren't offended by the song. I don't think the production helped either, as it was very safe and nothing really new for him. So, at least imo, it wasn't necessarily that he had gone in on the religious controversy at all; it was more so that he created a song that offended those who already disliked him, and felt like a rehash to most of his fans.

I disagree that all androgynous-presenting queer singers are only doing it for the purposes of their career, and I feel it's a slippery slope to assume that. From what he has said in his documentary, I don't necessarily feel his appearance is intended to be any boundary-pushing statement. He has stated that he was not really comfortable presenting as himself in the early days of making music, but he has recently shifted to dressing more androgynously because that is how he feels most comfortable. That said, I know some LGBTQ+ singers have used their appearance to make a statement, but I feel it is an overgeneralization to assume that all gay singers who choose to present androgynously are only doing so to be "new" and "groundbreaking." How queer artists choose to present is their choice, and it isn't always to create public commentary or push boundaries.

All of that said, to each their own and I don't really want to argue about any of this if that's the direction this goes; just wanted to share my thoughts.

That and being androgynous today is seen as more of an issue than it was 10, 20, possibly even 30 years ago - at least in different ways. So you can’t even say him or other artists doing it are copying those from the past or doing something that isn’t a big deal anymore. It’s still controversial and something worth pushing back on so kudos to him for doing it right now.

Not sending I Luv It to radio was a big mistake. I Luv It was getting over 1 million daily Spotify streams during its first 2 weeks of release. He Knows just never streamed well, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did on Pop. Hopefully a new radio single will get released on Friday.
