does autoplay really help that much? I mean, I guess if you are not paying attention or using it for background music but I specific have playlists set up for each day so I never experienced any sort of "auto play"

Post Malone earns his first leader on the list and Wallen, his 13th. 

Established pop star Post Malone scores his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart as “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, ascends from No. 2 in just its seventh week on the survey (dated June 29). 

The breakup song increased by 6% to 31.5 million audience impressions June 14-20, according to Luminate. Post Malone and Wallen wrote it with Louis Bell, Ernest, Ashley Gorley, Hoskins, Ryan Vojtesa and Chandler Paul Walters. 

“Help” wraps the fastest trip to No. 1 on Country Airplay since Garth Brooks’ “More Than a Memory” became the only hit in the survey’s 34-year history to arrive at the summit, in September 2007. Among songs that rose to No. 1 from another rank, “Help” completes the speediest sprint since Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying” reached the top in its seventh week in July 2004. Notably, the average rise to No. 1 this decade is 33 chart weeks. 

Post Malone logged one prior Country Airplay entry, as featured on an update of Joe Diffie’s “Pickup Man,” which hit No. 44 in January. (The original dominated for four frames beginning in December 1994.)

Post Malone is set to release his upcoming album, F-1 Trillion, Aug. 16, as he revealed via a billboard in Nashville Tuesday (June 18).

Meanwhile, “Help” grants Wallen his 13th Country Airplay No. 1. He’s charting an additional song in the list’s upper reaches: “Cowgirls,” featuring Ernest, hops 6-3 (26.3 million, up 16%).

“Help” has spent five weeks running at No. 1 on the multimetric Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs (through the charts dated June 22).
Young’s ‘Young’ Is Top 10

Chris Young achieves his 18th Country Airplay top 10 as “Young Love & Saturday Nights” pushes 11-10 (18.9 million, up 5%). The song, which he co-penned, is his first to hit the tier since his team-up with Mitchell Tenpenny, “At the End of the Bar,” which became Young’s 11th No. 1, for a week in August 2022.

both songs were still getting it. 

It's hard to estimate properly but for big hits autoplay can be responsible for around 10-20% of streams.

It’s cause songs now are debuting at #1 and never traditionally starting in the middle of the chart. Mass buying, bundles, releasing multiple remixes and versions and other ridiculous tactics that artists and labels are using to get a #1 really made a number 1 debut meaningless.

Until 2020, it was incredibly hard for any artist to debut at the top. Only songs that pulled crazy numbers in their first week and were THE moment would debut at the top of the chart. The highest amount of #1 debuts we would get in a single year would be around 3-4.

Right? Like I get that it was one of the biggest stars in the history of the format coming out of retirement, and that he was a savvy marketer who knew how to work the charts and had a good relationship with the industry, but when that happened I was still like, “But how is that possible?”

The above stuff is annoying but isn't the driving force behind songs at debuting at #1.

It's simply because radio used to be the biggest factor behind determing at #1 and radio is slow. In contrast, streaming peaks in the first week 90% of the time.

itunes in the 2010s was similar but radio has died so much compared to back then.

but remember, there was ton of rigging in the past too. for example, for several years singles could only chart when there was a physical single for sale. so some labels would wait for when the artists was topping radio to release the single to get a #1 debut. for example, mariah carey's honey was released on radio for 6 weeks before it debuted at #1 because of  physical single release.  In contrast, don't speak never charted despite being the biggest song of their year since it was never  a physical single.

Lucky! I spent two days getting PPP as my first auto-play no matter what I listened to so frequently that I would skip it 2-seconds in. Thankfully I got songs like "Nasty" and "Candy Paint" second and third.

Unless it was filtered, no. It might cause them to get hit with a lower multiplier, though?

I will say, with regards to autoplay, it's definitely happening but it isn't just Sabrina - it's also been just about every other major hit of the year since at least Like That, at least for me.

Fair enough. I too would be horrified out of my mind if Cowgirls winds up as a #1 hit for months, atleast IHSH is actually good.

I will say, with regards to autoplay, it's definitely happening but it isn't just Sabrina - it's also been just about every other major hit of the year since at least Like That, at least for me.

It isn't just Sabrina and I was honestly shocked to find out that people do let autoplay run. The few times I get it I skip and go back to my own curated playlists.

But even my close friends started reporting recently that they got nothing but Espresso on it. Granted they all enjoy the song so the algorithm was inclined to suggest it again but some tweaking seemed necessary.

Honestly passive streaming should be weighed similar to airplay audience. Why does it count more if Spotify suggests it instead of a radio PD?

well taylor's gotten much bigger in the UK this decade and she doesn't do pre-album singles anymore.
Her getting #1, #3, and #4 was very impressive though.

Speaking of Sabrina, looks like Short N Sweet is the first 2024 album with two multi-week top 5 hits!
Looks like no 2023 album did that either.

Isn't part of the difference because people pay for Spotify? That is different than radio you don't pay for. Of course, there are also free accounts. I don't know how easy it is to detect when someone who listens via a free Spotify account then listens to a song via Autoplay.

There is still so much nuance to it regardless. For example I've gone to a specific artist to hear a specific song, and then of course it plays the next song from that album next. I might let it play if I'm busy, but it's passive in that I didn't intend to listen to that song.
