Taylor is much bigger in terms of hits and it’s not even close. Look at the numbers. Katy has a lot more GP hits than Taylor's fanbase pushed hits lbr From 2010-2013, sure. She’s demolished her since then.

Other than Bruno Gaga and Taste all these songs are ancient news and boring to see there every week at this point for me. Like at least make it interesting and try to push Espresso into #1 or something.

I also didn't realize Lucky Star peaked so closely to Like A Virgin, and that it was the former that seemed to benefit initially from her famous MTV VMAs performance on September 14, 1984. The Like A Virgin single itself wasn't even out at the time. It was released in November and then of course quickly shot to #1.

Agree! That’s why for some people who lived through that time and follow the charts now, this was a HUGE long ERA. It started with the last two singles of Madonna, segued into the LaV singles and included the Susan and Vision Quest singles and Jellybean feature. MASSIVE. And speaking of female eras and the Katy discussion above. I’d add some comments: - ONJ was MASSIVE too, broke many records and had a career with top 10 hits past the decade of recording so NO she’s not a good comparison to KP. - Paula had a great couple of eras -even though TPOAND’s success merits an asterisk- but KP’s string of success has been much more longstanding than PA so I don’t think it’s the best comparison but at least it’s somehow comparable. - I think I read some post saying that Paula was bigger than Cyndi. HA!! People forget how massive her debut was! Shr had 5 massive hits from her debut album plus a track not released widely in the US (When you were mine) that would become a hit anyway in many places, plus the Goonies song (a top 10), then followed by a great second album that spawned a huge classic (True Colors) that has passed the test of time, plus a top 5 and two other hits, then a top 10 hit with I Drove All Night and a couple other hot 100 hits later. I think she’s between Paula and Katy in terms of success. - I thought Alicia was a good comparison. Another one I’m surprised I haven’t read is J Lo. She had a successful debut era with a huge #1 and a well remembered top 10, and a couple of other (Latin) hits (Let’s Get Loud and No Me Ames). Then quite a successful second era -including the remix #1s and a string of top 10s/20s. Quite a solid era -not comparable to TD but still with a large number of hits. Another #1 in her next era, and then a string of minor hits including a global juggernaut (On the floor). Plus the Idol connection hehe. Anyway. Just adding her to the list, as I’m a fan of JLo and KP.

I know there was blatant fraud used earlier in Lose Control’s chart run… but are they still doing tactics? This damn song is *increasing* more than a year into its run, yet I’ve still never heard it in the real world.

Lose Control probably gets a ton of airplay on some top 40 stations, mostly those more Adult-Contemporary aligned, that probably still play a Kelly Clarkson song at least 30 times each day.
An odd possibility - if Espresso manages to actually get to #1 or #2 and ends up in the top 5 on the Year End, it would be the latest song to chart in its respective chart year of any top 5 YE Hot 100 single since 1997. I do wonder if it making it to #2 is a possibility.

I remember watching an old MTV interview from early 1984 on YouTube where she said the Like A Virgin single was originally supposed to be released in June. This was before Lucky Star was released, so I think what happened was Borderline ended up doing better than expected, so they decided to let that ride a while longer, which gave the album an additional boost and made them realize it had more potential, so they decided to release one more single, Lucky Star, and thus didn't release LAV till the end of the year. Here is that old interview, where she discusses the original release date and Like A Virgin in general around 3:07
