If I recall correctly she already managed the impressive feat of zero Hot 100 songs with Smile's debut week but back then I think Daisies had peaked already. She has IHHM as an active single right now... which means little tbh.

At least she got 1 top 40 out of that. My love is for real wasn't a bad song. But pop music had changed so much since her previous album she couldn't compete. Katy seems stuck in 2013.

Wasn't it her third album though? Katy was still pretty succesful during her third record (PRISM).

At this point, I don't think Katy compares to anyone (specially to Paula Abdul, which many people points at for a comparison).

KP has had exceptional career, especially for a female Pop star, where longevity is a rarity.

KP is now in the P!nk category, which is a good place: radio will probably spin a first single, album will debut at a decent position, but the real money is in concerts.

If it was a newer act I'd say move on to standalone singles and pretend this didn't happen but I think at this stage of her career it's... very difficult to say what would be a good move.

Don’t focus on chasing commercial success is her best move from here. She’ll be over 40 after this without a smash hit in 10+ years and without a hit of any kind in 5+. It’s over for her days as a relevant pop star/hit-maker, unless she happens to get absurdly lucky with the right song. But that’s even less likely to happen if she’s chasing it and trying desperately to make it happen. I feel like that’s how the Luke collabing here happened in the first place. She just really needs to make an album that for her is all about the art/love of making music after this.

It was a joke - kinda like those who thought 143 would have even minimal success the minute WW was released.

Her team should've called WW a buzz single, delayed the album, scrapped most of it, try to finish the few songs that had potential and record new material. They had 2 months to fix this.

It wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't proclaimed this was Katy's return to Pop greatness. It's sad to see KP flame out in such a major way.

Wasn't it her third album though? Katy was still pretty succesful during her third record (PRISM).

At this point, I don't think Katy compares to anyone (specially to Paula Abdul, which many people points at for a comparison).

If you’re looking for mirror image comparisons, no comparison will ever fit ever. Generally speaking, the Katy / Paula one works. Except Paula didn’t continue on after her single flop. She pivoted and found success elsewhere.
