As a rock fan, I would take Never Again over SUBG any time. But, I think that may be part of the problem. Kelly's core fan base is the pop market, not the rock market. The pop/rock and rock markets may have some crossover, but they are not the same.
Yes, there are big rock acts who have had a lot of pop success, like Nickelback and Green Day, but it tends to be with their ballads, and not the harder, upbeat stuff.
Maybe a ballad would be a smart choice for the next single, since it could potentially cross to more formats.

Those lyrics LegendTina posted are amusing, yes, but the fact that they were even posted at all is just in bad taste. I'm not sure if I missed anything, but I never saw any Kelly fans making fun or having a go at Christina underperforming with Candyman so it's childish and low for a Christina fan to reciprocate sentiments that were never made.

simon has heard my december i guess... Simon Cowell...... On Kelly Clarkson's New Record Kelly Clarkson is not an artist who's in it for the money. She has a lot of integrity and this is a record she wanted to make. And I admire her for that. ... It's not as commercial as her last record, but any Kelly Clarkson record at the moment is a pretty good record compared to the competition because she's an incredible artist. Simon may very well mean what he says about Kelly Clarkson at this juncture, but all you have to do is wait a bit for it to change, as good old Simon tends to make comments depending on which way the wind is blowing on any given day. |

i think this is officially done on pop. so sad .. what a huge airplay flop from someone like kelly clarkson.
i doubt idol performance tomorrow would help that much, i kindda hope she will debut her next single tomorrow. no point of keep pushing NA.
about the queen of top 40, now that tittle is up for grasp.
kelly has been dominating and was the queen until NA flopped.
xtina has a great track record, but no way she's the top 40 queen, since none of her b2b singles went top 5.. ouch .. and her last #1 was beautiful which was 100 years ago, and her last single candyman tanked
fergie i guess is the most successful top 40 radio female artist at the moment, but she isnt the queen yet, none of her singles hit #1 on top 40 yet

Say I'm in denial or whatnot, but I don't think this song has peaked yet. I think it'll fall a lot for a week or so, then start slowly climbing again. If the label doesn't give up on it, it might be a mild hit by the time the album is released. Kelly's rockish music takes a while for the large majority of pop audience to warm to. Look at how long some of her other songs took to climb up the charts. Look at U + Ur Hand. Rock/pop songs seem to be very slow-growers compared to the straight pop or even pop/rock hits like "Glamorous" and "Girlfriend." NA had a huge initial surge because people were curious about her new song. Now it's not such big news, and people aren't as interested. But I bet it'll slowly start picking up more fans in the next several weeks. We'll be able to tell a little better after idol this week. I'd say if idol does nothing to the bullet and request numbers, then it probably is over.

the sad truth is if Kelly had made Breakaway part 2 there are plenty of people who would be moaning and complaining about Kelly being all about the hits and not about the music so reality is Kelly can't win in this situation so she might as well make herself happy musically.

I still think this song is great.
I do believe though that if this doesn't see a spin increase after tomorrow's AI show, it may be hard to get this one going again.
I don't see this as a flop though, hardly. What does radio matter anyhow now-a-days in the world of satellite radio and illegal downloads? Sure she was the Queen of it (currently, I guess? Isn't Madonna?), but so what to that too? To me, televsion has more impact than radio now, by far.
So that leads me to this; so what if the song didn't do well on radio? How does that explain it's continual Top 10 prescence on various digital music charts, video countdowns, ect?
What are its digital numbers? Over 300,000K by now for sure, at least? I don't think that's too bad considering its only been out a month.
I think the song has served its purpose. It was designed to be so middle of the road that it stalled at N0.20 on Top 40 radio and seems to have spilt the reactions on this board almost equally to those that love it or plain hate. This is a poplarizing song. Good and bad things may come from that, take your pick, but ultimately it got the word out there that KC is back, and that she's a little more rough around the edges than before.
I do think it has had the ability to open up her fan base, however. And in that I mean, it (with all the My December record lable mumbo-jumbo) has shown people that she is an artist with intergrity (though her choice of words at times may be misconstrweed by some) and courage.
I don't think, though, that a lot of the general public even knows about this "flopping" or about her record lable woes. I haven't heard much talk about this being a flop outisde of this board, oh but wait, I don't listen to the radio.

TRUE, although with brekaway/subg part 2, she would have blown up by now, the single probably would be top 5 already by now

ok im sorry but this song is a flop if it doesnt pick back up. and i cant help make the comparison to beyonce and "deja vu". that thing flew to like 15 on mediabase in like 10 days and then after another 3 weeks just plumeted off. now all i can hope is that kelly doesnt follow so closely to beyonce that she has her "ring the alarm." lets hope kelly simply jumps next into her "irreplaceable" maybe its just wishful thinking. here's to hoping whatever comes next is more successful!

I think it would be a smart move on RCA's part (if they actually wanna help this song, which i guess we don't know for sure at this point...) to push the remix heavily starting this week. If she does perform Never Again on the Idol finale, that will be huge, and that combined with a new version of the song being pushed, could at least stabalize the song for a while maybe.
Plus, the remix is just more pop radio friendly IMO.
