Wish i could say i was surprised with Miley's numbers. i was hoping for better but I had a feeling this album wouldn't do well. If she really doesn't want to be a pop aritst then this might be a good thing in the long run

Why it worked for Brit but not for Miley:
1. Unlike Slave 4 U, Can't Be Tamed sucks, and I couldn't even be arsed to dowload it.
2. Unlike Britney, Miley is not, and has never been sexy.
3. The transition seemed sudden and didn't make sense. Britney always had sexual undertones and worked her way up to full blown slut.
4. The Britney album was her best yet, and got great reviews. The previews of Can't be Tamed don't sound promising.
5. Britney did it already.

RECOVERY CONTINUES: Retail reports have the new Eminem album now at "over 600k," as wonderers wonder just how high it can go. With numbers like that, Shady/Aftermath/Interscope's Recovery, which is precisely what the beleaguered biz is hoping for, will be the year's biggest-selling debut. Stay tuned right here as the returns are being counted. (6/24p)
So, if it's sold 600k thus far, I'm wondering if it will end up at like 900k-ish before the week is done. Guess I misunderstood! Anyways, that's a great total.

I think what they meant is the prediction is over 600K by now. I don't know if it's over 600K as of right now. I would love that to be the case though. My guess is the prediction is just safely over 600K now.

Don't know what his appearances on Letterman or Fallon will generate in terms of sales but I would be thrilled if it sells more than 608K and sells more than Relapse. I think Recovery will have longer staying power on the charts as well.

General public? Not afraid has 24 million impressions, and out of those 600k are buying his album, so actually there are more people listening to him on the radio than buying his album. 24 Mill in audience isnt alot. He is saying even without the huge audience people like Lady Antebellum, Drake, Usher, Rihanna, ect get he is still outselling their first week totals. Eminem countinues to pull in better album sales and digital sales than airplay. I know, but he sounded like sales figures represented what the general public wants, and album buyers are not the general public, album buyers are only a small, very very small part of the general public. Radio isn't trying to boycott Eminem's career like many seem to imply. If album sales should dictate airplay, than Susan Boyle would've had the #1 song of 2009, and not the Black Eyed Peas.

If he sells 700k that'll be the biggest opener since 2008 right?

hilary was the guinea pig Annette Funicello was the guinea pig. They've been doing this non-stop for 60 years. out of the current disney stars, is what i meant. i feel bad for miley because i am actually liking some of the songs from this album and think people are not giving her a chance.

Miley is sexy whether you like it or not. 3. Clearly you are delusional and haven't seen the Party in the U.S.A vid? or her last tour? 4. The Britney album got mixed or negative reviews. It has a 54 on metacritic while Miley has a 59. 5. So has every other pop star. Next.

:o @ Eminem! YOUR ROUND OF 15 CHART PREVIEW Shady’s back, all right. Eminem's sales continue to grow, and Recovery now seems like a lock to top the first week of his previous release, Relapse. With the weekend ahead, it's now just a question of how high it can go. Here are the seedings for next week's Top 15: Em Recovery* Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 640-675k Drake (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown) 150-160k * Miley Cyrus (Hollywood) 110-120k * Ozzy Osbourne (Epic) 65-70k Now 34 (Capitol/EMI) 55-60k Jack Johnson (Brushfire/Universal Republic) 45-50k * The Roots (Def Jam/IDJ) 45-50k Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 40-45k Sarah McLachlan (Arista/RMG) 40-45k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 30-35k Twilight Saga: Eclipse (Chop Shop/Atlantic) 30-35k Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (Warner Bros.) 30-35k Lady Gaga (Interscope) 25-28k Usher (LaFace/JLG) 24-27k * Keith Sweat (Kedar Entertainment) 24-27k * Denotes debut You may now returrn to poring over your official FIFA rulebooks. Oh so it's expected to sell less than Susan Boyle? So Miley's album starts at no. 3, lower than the 4 HM ST's, her 1st solo album, and her EP. SuBo came out at Christmas time. Album sales are always inflated from the week of Thanksgiving to Christmas, so its hard to compare.

Sexier image. It worked for certain artists like Mariah (Honey), Britney (I'm A Slave 4 U), and Nelly Furtado (Promiscious). But it didn't work for other artists like Jessica Simpson (Irresistible), Xtina (Dirrty), Jewel (Intuition) and Miley (Can't Be Tamed).

Em Recovery* Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 640-675k FLOP! haha. i distinctly remember someone on this board telling me that miley was going to "crush" eminem 1st week. well, looks like she'll only be off by 500k or so. hopefully he can hit 700k. as for drake, looks like he's getting that typical 60-65% drop.

Her audience extends all the way to 4-year olds. (The others listed here, not so much) The sexed up image isn't appropriate for this age group

what sucks is that the album itself is completely appropriate for all of her fans, even the younger ones if there parents would just give it a chance. its actually a quiet positive and empowering album, Can't be tamed basically sticks out on it like a sore thumb.

Update...
YOUR ROUND OF 15 CHART PREVIEW
Shady’s back, all right. Eminem's sales continue to grow, and in our latest upward revision this morning, we're now calling the Recovery number 700-750k. That means the album isn't just a lock to top the first week of his previous release, Relapse, it's on track to be the biggest debut since AC/DC's Black Ice bowed with 784k back in 2008. With the weekend ahead, it's now just a question of how high it can go. Here are the seedings for next week's Top 15:
* Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 700-750k Drake (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown) 150-160k * Miley Cyrus (Hollywood) 110-120k * Ozzy Osbourne (Epic) 65-70k Now 34 (Capitol/EMI) 55-60k Jack Johnson (Brushfire/Universal Republic) 45-50k * The Roots (Def Jam/IDJ) 45-50k Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 40-45k Sarah McLachlan (Arista/RMG) 40-45k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 30-35k Twilight Saga: Eclipse (Chop Shop/Atlantic) 30-35k Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (Warner Bros.) 30-35k Lady Gaga (Interscope) 25-28k Usher (LaFace/JLG) 24-27k * Keith Sweat (Kedar Entertainment) 24-27k * Denotes debut
