TLC is the only thing keeping Eminem away from all #1 debuets. TLC. haha. That still ticks me off. TLC>>>>>> They debuted and stayed at #1 for 4 weeks withOUT a video. Eminem would've been shat on even moreso if the "No Scrubs" video had come out before the album as videos had a huge impact on album sales then. It still was a remarkable debut from him as he went from unknown to superstar seemingly over night and did it without much radio play.

Destiny's Child Destiny's Child - Platinum The Writing's on the Wall - 8x Platinum Survivor - 4x Platinum Destiny Fulfilled - 3x Platinum Total: 16x Platinum TLC Ooooooohhh.... On the TLC Tip - 4x Platinum CrazySexyCool - 11x Platinum FanMail - 6x Platinum 3D - Platinum Total: 22x Platinum And even if you add in the sales of Destiny's Child Christmas album, Remix album, and #1s album they are still several million behind TLC's 4 studio albums alone. Have the Dixie Chicks not surpassed the sales of TLC and Destiny's Child in the US? I was under the impression that their first two albums alone were each certified 10x platinum.

Excellent week for Eminem! I always get excited for big numbers like this regardless of who the artist is. what sucks is that the album itself is completely appropriate for all of her fans, even the younger ones if there parents would just give it a chance. its actually a quiet positive and empowering album, Can't be tamed basically sticks out on it like a sore thumb. Hmm maybe a more age-appropriate second single can save her?

I don't think it was country fans, I think it was radio programmers and the media

I don't think it was country fans, I think it was radio programmers and the media Country radio programmers/DJs quit adding/playing their songs at the request of their listeners. Reba and Toby fans were infamously especially vocal about wanting the DC off Country radio stations. (Not all Country fans turned on them, but it was a large majority of them.)

I suppose they got the last laugh though when TTLW scanned well past 2 million despite middling radio support at Country radio and even other formats.

Reba and Toby fans were infamously especially vocal about wanting the DC off Country radio stations. (Not all Country fans turned on them, but it was a large majority of them.) You are pretty much correct. My interpretation is a loud-vocal minority calling into radio stations, ignited by the "how dare they" media reports and others following suit so they could play along. For reference - the 2003 article Dixie Chicks pulled from air after bashing Bush Friday, March 14, 2003 Posted: 7:45 PM EST (0045 GMT) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DALLAS, Texas (Reuters) -- There are a lot worse things in country music than your wife leaving you or your dog dying. There's stations not playing your music because you done gone and said some things against the president. Music superstars the Dixie Chicks are finding out that criticizing President Bush's plans for war in Iraq can cost you air play, big time. Country stations across the United States have pulled the Chicks from playlists following reports that lead singer Natalie Maines said in a concert in London earlier this week that she was "ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." Station managers said their decisions were prompted by calls from irate listeners who thought criticism of the president was unpatriotic. The group, which got its start in Texas, was one of the darlings of this year's Grammy Awards. The three-woman band that blends blue grass and pop hooks has spawned legions of fans who embrace the ideals of strong women celebrated in some of the trio's songs. One station in Kansas City, Missouri held a Dixie "chicken toss" party Friday morning, where Chick critics were encouraged to dump the group's tapes, CDs and concert tickets into trash cans. Houston country station KILT pulled the band's records from its playlist -- at least temporarily -- after 77 percent of people polled on its Web site said they supported the move. "We've got them off the air for right now," said Jeff Garrison, program director at KILT, which is owned by Viacom's Infinity Broadcasting Corp. "People are shocked. They cannot believe Texas' own have attacked the state and the president," Garrison said. Lead singer Maines said in a statement she felt the president was ignoring the opinions of many in the United States and alienating the rest of the world by pushing for war with Iraq. "We've been overseas for several weeks and have been reading and following the news accounts of our government's position. The anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding," Maines said. One of the country stations in Dallas that helped champion the Chicks when they were scraping by in that city playing gigs on street corners for tips, "99.5 The Wolf," said they are listening to the listener's views but do not think it is right to immediately jump on the bandwagon and stop playing the Chicks, said program director Paul Williams. Williams said it is too early to tell how strong a backlash may develop against the Chicks. He said the comments touched a deep nerve in Texas because they came from one of the biggest country groups to come out of the state and were directed at a president who calls Texas home. "The listener outlash is probably bigger here than anywhere else," William said. The Chicks have the number one country album in the United States on the Billboard charts called "Home" and the No. 1 single with "Travelin' Soldier", which is about a U.S. soldier who fought in Vietnam.

I'm so pumped that we're talking about the Dixie Chicks right now... I'm a huge fan and the backlash just made me love them even more. "Goodbye Earl" was one of the first music videos I ever saw (maybe even the first but I find it a little hard to believe I was 8 the first time I saw a music video) and "Wide Open Spaces" was one of the first songs I learned all the words too.

That backlash sure was a mess. Their last single to go top 20 on Country, 'Travelin' Soldier' was #1 the week Natalie talked about Bush. Next week it went down to #3, and then it was out. They have yet to make the top 30 again, as their highest post-backlash peak was 36 (Not Ready to Make Nice) despite the song's #4 Hot 100 peak.

It was nice to see the "Court Yard Hounds" side project so well-received. I really hope the three of them will do another album together eventually...

I do wonder what Recovery will end up at. I will say 715K this week in the states. Since HDD is predicting 700-750 i will go near the lower end of that number. We will see. According to HDD 250 K will be from digital.

Eminem sold 140k in the UK alone, so there's a good chance of him selling a million copies worldwide.

For some reason I remember Relapse "only" selling 970K or something. Awesome then-two million plus worldwide sellers in a short time period is fairly impressive.
