The thing about Britney that Miley does not have is Britney basically took everyone with her from day one. She was never marketed solely to a kiddie fan base so it was never a question of what to do once they outgrew her. That is what Miley is facing right now.

Man Drake is only gonna sell 150-160 in second week?
Anyways great sales for Eminem. I'm still gonna give this album a try. Not gonna rule it out.

The Britney album got great reviews? Other than the odd placement on that Ent. Weekly list, it hardly was an acclaimed album on year-end/all-time lists. (check acclaimed music site for that). I agree that Britney had a sexiness right from the start- her first video was her biggest impact. SHe was sexy, but as projected in interviews and everything but her dress, she was more sweet than naughty. When she turned legal, her choice of dress wasn't a big deal anymore- nor was the gyrating in the "Slave 4 U" video.
Miley's situation is different because, as noted, she was a HUGE star tied to the Disney brand, and the "Can't Be Tamed" image isn't exactly appropriate material for the Hannah Montana fans (like 2m reiterated). A lot of these females think that dressing sexy and gyrating is "empowering," freeing, and such (see Christina Aguilera, Mimi when she just started removing layers of clothing), but when it's just dress-up with no points, they may as well be one of those rap-vcideo girls shaking their booty till there's no tomorrow.
Eminem's numbers are wow-tastic. With music sales in the toilet, some acts still can command huge numbers.

If you needed any more confirmation: www.billboard.com/#/news/eminem-s-recovery-on-pace-for-700k-first-1004100890.story?tag=hpfeed"Eminem's 'Recovery' On Pace For 700K First Week" Things just got better for Eminem. Industry sources predicted Wednesday that Em's new "Recovery" album, released on June 21, was on track to easily debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with perhaps 600,000 copies sold by week's end on Sunday, June 27. Sources now estimate "Recovery" will rack up the biggest sales week for a single album in more than 18 months, as it should sell in excess of 700,000 by week's end on Sunday, June 27. Thus, it may earn the best sales week for an album since - wait for it - October 2008. That's when AC/DC's "Black Ice" debuted with 784,000 in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan. (Eminem will also blow past 2009's best sales week, when Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" started with 701,000 last November.) "Recovery" is on track to be Eminem's sixth straight No. 1 debut - and sixth overall No. 1. His only album to miss the top spot was his "Slim Shady LP" debut, which bowed and peaked at No. 2 in 1999. Last week's No. 1, Drake's "Thank Me Later," will likely slip to No. 2 on next week's Billboard 200 chart with perhaps 180,000 to 200,000 copies sold in its second week, while Miley Cyrus' new "Can't Be Tamed" might debut at No. 3 with around 120,000 to 130,000. Next week's album charts competes with the same week in 2009 when in the wake of Michael Jackson's death, the King of Pop ruled with the top three selling albums in the U.S. as "Number Ones," "The Essential Michael Jackson" and "Thriller" ranked at Nos. 1-3 with 108,000; 102,000 and 101,000; respectively.

Seriously. It wouldnt shock me if eventually Interscope released "Infinite" and that debuet at #1. I am honestly shocked that hasnt been done yet.
TLC is the only thing keeping Eminem away from all #1 debuets. TLC. haha. That still ticks me off.
SSLP: #2 MMLP: #1 The Eminem Show: #1 Encore: #1 Curtain Call: #1 Relapse: #1 Recovery: #1

An integral 1/3 of your group dying does that sometimes. Even before that tragic death it was happening. Unlike Led Zeppelin cases. They were still going strong when there drummer died and they decided to retire.

Why it worked for Brit but not for Miley: 1. Unlike Slave 4 U, Can't Be Tamed sucks, and I couldn't even be arsed to dowload it. 2. Unlike Britney, Miley is not, and has never been sexy. 3. The transition seemed sudden and didn't make sense. Britney always had sexual undertones and worked her way up to full blown slut. 4. The Britney album was her best yet, and got great reviews. The previews of Can't be Tamed don't sound promising. 5. Britney did it already. So much truth it's scary. On another note, congrats to Eminem! I can not wait to see how his album ends up selling.

Ugh, why isn't Sia on the list. I'm guessing she'll do under 20k then. That's a shame, as it's a great album and probably the best Pop album of the year so far.

The last album went top 30 based on the fanbase she earned from "Breathe Me" (and of course, "Day Too Soon" was an excellent song). This will probably go top 40 by all accounts but I was hoping the Christina link would help some fans get it into the top 20. Speaking of which, could M.I.A.'s album go top 10 when it's released? I'm hoping the controversy won't hinder it from a high chart position.

Yeah, I was hoping Xtina would help bring more exposure to Siallah, but she's having problems selling her own album, so I guess it's not too surprising. But yeah, at least Sia has a solid fanbase who will come and see her on tour. I just wish more people would support the album as it really is amazing.

AMEN to this....so true...and they will continue to do it for 60 more. The new kids are no different.
It really just doesn't have to be Disney though....Jonas Bros, Bieber, Miley....they are bubblegum pop.....no different than a Donnie Osmond, David Cassidy, Hanson, etc....some will rise above it and have long careers, some won't, just a luck of the draw and how much they want to continue. And actually, they probably will all have long careers, just not at the success they are at now.....which is fine, no one can stay on top forever. If people are real fans, it won't matter to them either way, as long as they are making music.

Miley is sexy whether you like it or not. 3. Clearly you are delusional and haven't seen the Party in the U.S.A vid? or her last tour? 4. The Britney album got mixed or negative reviews. It has a 54 on metacritic while Miley has a 59. 5. So has every other pop star. Next. Your responses are the pot calling the kettle black. Next.

A drummer dying isn't the same thing as one of the VOICES and arguably the most famous member dying.

Billboard and the RIAA gave TLC the title as the best selling Female Group of all time. In 2005, the World Music Awards recognized Destiny's Child as the World's Best-selling female group of all time(includes singles, eps, ect. So they both are technically the "best" in some form or another and both were huge. So I have no reason why that Eminem fan is "pressed" that he's fave(who was a newb at the time) got outsold by one of the biggest female groups of all time :) TLC were amazing! I think it's really awesome that Eminem is improving on Relapse first week sales :) Relapse was a huge debut and for him to beat it the next year after being around so long is great :)
