As far as I'm concerned, if you're nominated for material released within the past year, no matter how "little" the category, you should be able to perform. Rihanna included.

Naughty Girl peaked the highest (#3) so I'm gunna go with that.
I was surprised to see that MM&I actually peaked at #4 (as did Deja Vu).
Had Upgrade U actually been released as a single I'm sure it would've peaked in the top 3 too.

Wow, the irony of Rihanna and Chris being #1 and #2, respectively, at urban. I mean, really?

There is no percentage formula for the Hot 100. That has to be the biggest misconception about the charts. There is no concrete formula for how much sales count or how much airplay counts. A song that is getting very little airplay and a ton of sales (Glee songs) could be 1% airplay and 99% sales. A song like a Rihanna hit could be 55% airplay 45% sales and so on.... To my uderstanding Billboard uses a point system which gives equal weight to audience impressions and sales where 1k digital sales gives you 1 point and 1000 AI gives you 1 point. I know there's no "concrete" formula but equal weighting would more or less mean 50% sales 50% airplay (which again is not exact since streaming is factored in as well). If I were to say that airplay isn't important so I want 2000 AI to equal 1 point, that would give airplay-heavy hits a disadvantage in charting on the Hot 100 because they would need more airplay to get that 1 point. This is the kind of methodology they use and yes they can give sales or airplay more "weight" in calculating Hot 100 positions. These Hot 100 is not objective comments are humorous and come up everytime there is a high debut based on sales. The Britney songs is the most popular song of the moment, people don't have to buy it And how is a popularity chart not subjective? If Billboard says the #1 song is Grenade and I don't agree with that then there is a difference in opinion therefore making it subjective. Just because Billboard says a song is most popular in a given week does not make it so.

That is what he's saying. Billboard is objective in their measurement of popularity. The numbers don't lie. The Hot 100 is not objective, once the formula itself has been questioned several times. Hot Digital Songs, on the other hand, is an objective chart, as it relies only on sales figures. This is very true. Sales and airplay charts, as seperate entities, are objective as they rely on concrete data (sales and audience and impressions respectvely). But when you combine them to determine the most popular songs of the moment (Hot 100), you're bringing subjectivity into it. Some people think that the most popular songs should be determined by 80% sales 20% airplay, others will disagree and say that airplay is more important.

Rihanna is so damn high in airplay yet it was only like #9 in digital sales last week? It's digital performance is very disappointing considering it's been riding high on top of the airplay charts for a while now.

^CD's also degenerate after continuous (and heavy) play. Digital files don't. There's definitely pro's and cons to both sides.

I like "Don't Hold Your Breath", but it's more of an album track than a radio single imo. She still needs to come way harder to make up for all the flops earlier on.

Digital sales have not increased all that much, contrary to popular belief. They only increased about 1% between 2009 and 2010.
Anyways I'll say about 300k. It's an iTunes exclusive which will hurt it a bit.

Dynamite is #8 on iTunes still. amazing It's #11 in overall airplay with an audience of 63 mil so it makes sense for it to be selling well still.

I think the poster meant that GaGa will easily sell 5 mil with the cumulative singles from BTW, not the single itself.

Not sure how "Amy" could have killed Circus' momentum seeing as how it was able to peak at #6 on pop. It's not like it peaked in the 30's ie. Radar (the real momentum killer).

By #2 peakers I assume you mean on pop, cuz OMG hit #1 on the Hot 100. Anyways OMG definitely is the bigger hit, my favorite, will get more recurrent play and I think it defines R vs. R better since it is *less* generic than DJ. Since the day DJ leaked I thought it was just so blah and after it being whored out on radio it still hasn't grown on me at all. It's actually one of my least favorite Usher singles. OMG on the other hand is just brilliant, the production is top-notch, the hook is instant (even if one was stolen from the Simpsons ) and it still seems fresh to me.

Most likely GaGa, but I voted for Britney anyway just because I could. Ditto. And for all the hypes Gaga supposedly has, Britney's actually ahead in this poll. (Well, for now anyway.) Not really indicative of anything other than Britney possibly having more fans than GaGa on Pulse. Anyways I say GaGa. If only for the effort she puts into her work (videos, epic performances, not to mention the music itself). Plus she's premiering her new song at the Grammy's and Glee has already decided to dedicate one of their shows to "Born this Way". The hype surrounding her will only grow as her release approaches. With Britney it just seems like she's releasing another album with bubblegum pop music (of wihch I'll love of course). I suppose anything could happen, though. Edit: And I'll ignore the blatant disregard for Queen Beyonce in this poll

Yeah the fact that both "Womanizer" and "3" reached #1 in their debut week (well after the digital debut for Womanizer) leads me to believe that this will have to do the same or it won't get there. Unless it gets ample rhythmic support which is unlikely. The competition is just really strong right now with Firework and Grenade.

Wow, that is really, really sad. Has it even hit 60k yet? I really hope she can make it big again in the future. I miss dem Goodies days when she was on top!

I highly doubt a lowest-selling #1 week would put a dent to Taylor's name. It's a no-brainer she sells tons of albums, it hardly makes a difference if she gets this record (which she most likely will).

Beyonce will die with a Mic in her hand. OMG ! I say Kelly Clarkson will be the first to throw in the towel. I don't see Britney making music anymore once she hits 40. Someone like Alicia I could see churning out hits well past her prime a la Mary J Blige.

^^Same situation with Gaga. She had 4 singles getting recurrent spins (alot) and Paparazzi had just barely peaked. In fact Paparazzi, Bad Romance and Telephone were all top 20 on pop at once, but still BR and Tele were able to reach #1. All I'm saying is that if WMN? doesn't reach #1, I highly doubt it's because of S&M or WTC, especially considering neither are seeing huge gains at the moment.

Why are people so worried about S&M hurting WMN? I mean this exact situation just happened, with Rihanna herself might I add, where WMN? was released prematurely, gained big right out the gate, and Only Girl still reached #1. If pop radio wants to rotate a song enough for the #1 position, it will get there regardless of outside factors. Also happened with Bad Romance and Telephone.

So VH1 did a special for the "Top 100 Music Videos of All-Time" and of course Single Ladies charted! I couldn't find the full list online but the top 3 is... 1. Michael Jackson-Thriller 2. Madonna-Like a Prayer 3. Beyonce-Single Ladies Amazing
