I prefer R&R's policy of allowing Christmas songs only from stations that did not go all Christmas, so these seasonal songs had to compete with the other currents on the chart. If they make it, it was usually during December and they would drop off afterwards.
As long as each Christmas song can only chart during its first season, I'm okay with it.

This would be a good follow-up, but AC probably isn't ready for one yet. I'll rather this become a hit than "Life is a Highway".

This song is good. But I'm still annoyed "When the stars go blue" got on AC radio.

Probably James Blunt's "You're Beautiful".

I suppose there must be an acoustic version out there too. I wasn't really hoping for this particular lite-rock song to cross over.

I really like this song. I'm not sure if I want to hear it on AC too, though.

It's okay. I like it about the same as "You Raise Me Up". I prefer his songs that didn't do as well on the charts.

What day does the new R&R update their charts now?
It used to be Wednesday, and the charts were labelled with an end-date of Friday. What about now?

I also love that recent hit "Every Breath You Take" by the Police on the Recurrent chart.

Are you referring to the new R&R charts, or Mediabase charts? New R&R charts, I believe. It looks like (for now) Mediabase is keeping the R&R recurrent rules, which is pretty cool.

You would think that if the actual AC chart was indeed more than 30 positions, Billboard's subscribers would have access to the entire chart, not just the first 30 positions. BDS tracks how many times every song is played, so it would definitely have all the songs ranked below the top 30. The question is whether anyone is allowed to see it (even subscribers).

Limiting the Recurrent chart to songs that are, say, less than 5 years old would just hide the fact that older tunes like "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life" are still being played more than current product. It won't hide the fact if you are able to access the Gold chart to see the songs' spin totals. If the Recurrent chart wasn't so cluttered with Golds, you can better compare more recent hits, vs. gold favorites. I know when I'm looking at the Recurrent chart, I am looking for the songs that have recently been removed from the chart and whether they are maintaining their spins. I agree with your point that certain Golds are overplayed, though. I don't like how AC discards certain recurrents after a while, not to mention songs that don't stick around long enough to reach recurrent status.

I've never liked the Billboard AC chart due to its recurrent rules. A top 30 with a decent recurrent rule (like in R&R) was better.
I agree the chart is stagnant, though.

I just heard this on my AC station... it had Wyclef Jean and his entire part.

I hope this one doesn't cross over. AC is so unadventurous that there's a good chance it might sometime next spring.

I'm not big on this remake. I would rather have "What Hurts The Most" continue to rise.

On most AC stations, there are still plenty of 25-40 year olds calling in to request songs from the 70s. There is more 80s rock and pop-rock creeping into AC now, but listeners are simply not very receptive to new music. Yeah, "You & Me" is big, but AC listeners aren't clamouring for the next single by Lifehouse, or the Goo Goo Dolls. There are a few exceptions like Michael Buble doing well with "Save The Last Dance For Me", but I really doubt a third or a fourth single will make much of a dent (if any) on the chart.

I finally heard Leeza Gibbons... she's sort of good in the sense that she does play more new music than AT10, but I would prefer a countdown. I still miss Casey Kasem, and wishes the station didn't switch (or would play both).

A lot of AC stations are reluctant to play Mariah anyway because she's pretty much abandoned the format for hip hop. WBT was actually her first AC top 10 hit in 7 years (and despite hitting #1 everywhere else, it only got to like #6 correct me if I'm wrong). If she released something to AC, she'd be lucky if it went top 20. And ironically, I think many of her singles from "Glitter", "Charmbracelet" and "Rainbow" were more AC-friendly than WBT or FLAB. It would be nice if AC picked another song of hers to play instead of having more overkill of WBT.

The radio station where I used to listen AT10 has dropped the show, replacing it with Leeza Gibbons' Hollywood Confidential. Is that even a countdown? Arrghh! >:(

They play a few of those songs on the year-end countdown. Yeah, but that's only once a year. :'(

Songs that have just missed AT10 since AC stations became so closed to new music that ten songs were cut from the countdown.

I really don't want to hear this song on AC too (mainly since I hear enough of it on Hot AC and pop). But it's a really good thing for Natasha Bedingfield.

They will often play Hall & Oates' "Rich Girl" which never charted A/C. Yet, they no longer play "Do It For Love" which reached #1 A/C just a few years ago. Same with Journey ... they will play their older non-A/C hits like "Don't Stop Believin'" ad nauseum, but they won't play "When You Love A Woman" which reached #1 A/C less than 10 years ago. Now that's one thing I've never been able to explain - why AC stations would drop songs that were huge hits just 2 to 5 years ago, songs that people surely would still remember. Good point about the Saturday night shows... I guess a lot of the audience listened to disco back in the 70s instead of AC.

The legacy of Adult Contemporary is being ignored by WLTW and many other A/C's nationwide. A/C has such an incredible trove of its own music to draw from ... You are absolutely right, and I wish there were stations out there that played music from the AC charts of the past. But I guess the reality and how people are explaining this shift in AC gold playlists is that today's AC listeners were not listening to AC radio in the 1970s - they were listening to pop/rock radio. So with this audience, familiarity is greater with old pop/rock hits than old AC hits. Therefore, core AC artists from the 70s will remain unplayed, and eventually core AC artists from the 80s will be dropped. By this logic, teenagers growing up today in their 40s-50s will want to hear ballads by Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera and Lifehouse and AC radio won't be spinning Celine Dion, Phil Collins and even Michael Buble who didn't make a dent on pop.

My local AC station has been playing "Get This Party Started", "If You Had My Love" and "Waiting For Tonight" for years now. I've actually written to complain about Pink. I like her, but talk about jarring when "Get This Party Started" comes on. I guess soccer moms can jam to it when cleaning up the house after their teen daughter's house party.
