Welcome!
In a week or so, I will start posting my 2012 year end charts. So far only Artists, Songs and Recurrent songs are confirmed, but I might add some more categories. I'll post the rules and all that soon, but in the meantime, I've decided to follow the footsteps of Au$tin and DJ-O by starting my countdown with a poll of 10 random songs from my main list.
~Last year's flop thread.~

It looks like I'll definitely be following this chart. I can't wait to see where my favorites land. :)

Your year-end chart was awesome last year; hope this doesn't disappoint! I guess "Starships".

Wow! Thanks everyone for the comments! Already three times as much as last year, and it hasn't even started yet. I see most everyone thinks Starships and Die Young will chart the highest. Interesting.
I decided the cut off date is December 25th, so all rankings in the charts will be based solely on plays from January 1st to December 25th. Well, let's get started! All plays, including plays from old songs, count toward the artists list. I don't listen to too many albums, so I think a top 10 will be enough, otherwise there would be artists charting from 1 or 2 songs. I'm also really bad at commentary, so bear with me. | | | #10 - Taylor Swift
Never did I think that Taylor of all people would release a good song, let alone multiple songs! I loved the Hunger Games back in March, so I decided to check out Safe & Sound. To my surprise, it was a mature song, with beautiful vocals and a haunting atmosphere. What really cemented her a top 10 spot though, were the singles from Red. Even if her album isn't my favourite of the year, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, Red, I Knew You Were Trouble, Begin Again, and 22 are solid songs. | | #9 - Madonna
Hard Candy was decent, so I gave MDNA a try back when it came out, earlier in the year. I mostly just like LOVE Girl Gone Wild, and Give Me All Your Luvin' (original + party rock remix) but some album tracks like Gang Bang and I Don't Give A (feat. Nicki Minaj) also contributed to her ranking. I'm disappointed I didn't listen to Falling Free and Masterpiece more, because they're beautiful songs. I also downloaded Celebration (the album) this year. I'm not gonna list my favourite Madonna songs, but I like most of them so that got her a lot of recurrent plays. | | #8 - Britney Spears
Only Britney can get a top 10 ranking without even releasing anything. Well, Scream & Shout, but still. Not really much to say here. She was my #1 artist last year and probably in 2008 too. She gets a lot of recurrent plays every year, and this year I finally got Greatist Hits: My Prerogative so even her older songs' plays were tracked. Most of her plays were from Femme Fatale and Blackout though. She also got me to watch an entire season of X Factor just to see her make faces and tell the contestants various one word replies on how good they are, so honestly she should be top 3 but w/e, next year when Blackout 2.0 comes out, she'll probably be #1 again. | | #7 - Ellie Goulding
To be honest, I hadn't heard of her until Lights started smashing. I didn't even download Lights until it was top 20 on CHR, but once I did, I fell in love. I decided to listen to a few more songs, and after I heard Starry Eyed, I decided to download her whole album (US Edition). My favourites are Lights, Guns And Horses, Starry Eyed, This Love, Under The Sheets, The Writer, basically all of it. Then a month or so later, Halcyon came out. I won't say it's as good as Lights, because it isn't, but it does have quite a few gems. My Blood, Figure 8, Only You, and I guess Anything Could Happen being my favourites. She also got two smash features on Calvin Harris's I Need Your Love, and Zedd's Fall Into The Sky. | | #6 - Katy Perry
Teenage Dream is one of those perfect eras that just keep on giving. In this case, it got her a third top 10 ranking in a row, and with this, the era comes to an end. Although Part Of Me, Wide Awake and Dressin' Up didn't do as well as previous singles/album tracks, they are great songs and I'm happy they released The Complete Confection, but I'm still pres.sed at Billboard for not counting the re-release singles together with the original. Oh, I also downloaded One Of The Boys this summer, #late, I don't know why it took me so long. It's really underrated. My favourites aside from the 4 singles + Ur So Gay are the title track, If You Can Afford Me, and Mannequin. |

Britney, Madonna, and Ellie? Very nice.
I do admit that as much as I'm not overly into Katy's music that it's nice to see appreciation for "Mannequin".

Some quick rules:- Plays are only counted from 2012/01/01 to 2012/12/25
- Only two album tracks per album may chart. I didn't think this would be necessary, but certain albums like Warrior had 4-5 so I decided to put a limit.
- To be eligible, every song had to have been released after 2011/01/01, or peaked after said date. The second part is to let songs like slow climbing songs like Lights chart.
- Rankings aren't based 100% on iTunes plays. Some songs might get higher ranks if they were added during a period where I downloaded a lot of albums, and some may get lower ranks if they were added during a period where I only downloaded 8-10 songs in a month.
Let's start. ;) | Their music is kind of generic, but at least this song has a great message and a positive feel to it. Save The World would have charted last year if I didn't discover it so late in the year, and it didn't get enough plays this year to chart, but I like it better than this.
Date Added: 2012/11/12 | | I heard this on Glee a few weeks ago, and I was intrigued by it. I thought it was a random flop from the 80's, but after singing it in my head for weeks, I looked it up and turns out that it's actually a new song. I absolutely love how gay it is. I don't think I would admit to liking it outside of Pulse though.
Date Added: 2012/12/08 | | Honestly, I'm starting to get a bit tired of Inna... All her songs sound the same. I didn't care at first but if she doesn't change up her style, she probably won't get entries higher than this. She previously had big success on my chart in 2009 and 2010, when Hot, Love, Amazing, to name a few, were all probably top 10 on their respective year end charts..
Date Added: 2011/12/28 | | One of the standout tracks from Talk that Talk, imo. Filthy Rihanna at her best. Just to clear things up though, I only like the original! The remix of this is really bad, but at least it got released as a single, even if just for a week before Diamonds came.
Date Added: 2011/11/13 | | I'm not a big Leona Lewis fan, but her new album has a couple bops. I think this one is seriously underrated though. Everyone just keeps talking about Glassheart and Come Alive (deservingly), but they always seem to forget about this. It's not amazing by any means, but it has a catchy little melody going for it.

#97 - Rihanna - Cockiness - yesssssssssss probably my favorite song from the album. it may or may not be making my Rihanna countdown. ;) #96 - Leona Lewis - Shake You Up - good song, like you said just not as good as Come Alive.

| This song is a perfect combination of Adele's style, and what a James Bond theme song should sound like. Adele's vocals sound incredible over the symphonic instrumentation. When I was watching the movie, and this came up, it was so good that I got goosebumps. I'm surprised that it almost missed the top 40 on CHR, especially after coming off of 4 huge songs.
Date Added: 2012/10/06 | | I don't really like Train, but this song is good. It's nothing amazing, but it's pretty catchy. The lyrics are ridiculously cheesy though: "Just a shy guy looking for a two ply Hefty bag to hold my love" lmao but it makes me like it more.
Date Added: 2012/04/18 | | Foster the People previously charted with the incredible Pumped Up Kicks, last year at #51. This is hardly as good and I'm not surprised that it flopped, but it still has that mellow indie vibe that I liked about their previous single. I never really payed attention to the lyrics but apparently it's about a child ruling the world, which would explain the random toddler giggles throughout the song.
Date Added: 2012/02/12 | | Other than My Blood, I didn't really like Halycon at first. Nothing really GOT me until this song came on. It's an intense, upbeat song that's nothing like anything on her first album. That could be taken as negative considering I like her first album more, but I mean it in a positive context. The dubstep is used brilliantly in the choruses, and did I mention yet how much I love the use of the words "Figure 8"?
Date Added: 2012/10/20 | | This girl makes me want to kill myself, cry and sleep all at the same time. Can that be said positively? Well, it is. Sort of. Video Games and Born to Die aren't something I can listen to on repeat, but the song is good on occasion. I love the vulnerable sadness pouring from her every word, on top of a beautiful instrumental which brings it to a whole 'nother level.

I don't think I've heard of "Don't You Worry My Child" I used to prefer "Save the World" to it, but DYWC is really growing on me as of late.
Nice to see "Cockiness (Love It)" made it! It probably would have made mine too if "Diamonds" hadn't cut along and cut it off.
"Skyfall" is beautifully fantastic! I wish it were a tad bit higher.
Yes! "Drive By" is such a good song! It's lyrics are corny, but that somehow makes it even better.
"Figure 8" is a fantastic song. Love it! It will smash hard if released as a single.

Thank you to everyone who has took the time to read, comment, like, etc so far! I really appreciate it. :)I don't think I've heard of "Don't You Worry My Child" I used to prefer "Save the World" to it, but DYWC is really growing on me as of late. I actually realized I had the title wrong when I was typing this out, so I fixed it on my iTunes but apparently forgot on here. Idgi. Diamonds charting knocked Cockiness off from the #100 spot?I really like your commentary btw :) So many good songs already: "Cockiness" (Yaass Codex get ratchet! ), "Skyfall", "Drive By", "Don't You Worry Child" & "Shake You Up"! Also love the first part of your artists chart Thank you! Especially for the bolded part. I'm trying to get through the lower rankings quickly, but hopefully I can get better commentary for the higher ones. Yup, Codex likes to get ratchet every once in a while. The Britney gif > >> All good choices! Thanks and actually I couldn't find a good picture of Britney from 2012 so I just used the gif. The 2012 Eurovision winner. Rightfully so! There's a lot of feeling in the lyrics and how she sings them. The instrumental is sort of generic at times, but it helps give the song that euphoric feeling. Fairytale is still my favourite of the Eurovision songs I've heard though.
Date Added: 2012/08/19 | | Kiss is a fantastic pop album. Add the fact that Max Martin produced this, and you have a future hit on your hands. I'll be disappointed if they scrap the era after This Kiss flopped, because there are many other possibilities. I love how the song suddenly explodes in the chorus. It catches you by surprise, because you wouldn't expect it from the preceding tracks.
Date Added: 2012/09/21 | | I generally hate Example and hope him and his career die, but Calvin Harris can make anything good. Plus, Example has a good decent voice I guess. The synths in the chorus are the saving grace of the song, imo.
Date Added: 2012/08/07 | | I'm probably literally the only person on Pulse to like this song, lmao. I haven't heard anyone talk about it, but everyone seemed to hate Loca People, so... I really like songs with bad grammar, bad accents, bad lyrics and slutty vocals, I don't know why. This is a carbon copy of their other song but I liked that too so I don't really care.
Date Added: 2012/07/22 | | I only discovered this song recently, otherwise it would be much higher. Marina has a beautiful voice, and Dr. Luke is a great producer, so it works perfectly. It's also an upbeat song about being a slut, which is a popular theme with me. My favourite line is:"I lo-lo-lo-love you; ... At least I think I do". I also love the OOOs in the song.
