#27 - Desire - Years and Years

July 25 - #3 (2 weeks)

I must behave; I must keep fighting. Years and Years and a killer year on my chart, with four songs making the top ten. Desire probably could have charted if it were not simultaneously on the chart with two other Years and Years singles. At one point this summer, Y&Y had several weeks in a row with three songs in the top ten. This one is probably the closest to the 90s club vibe of Rather Be. Good to see "Firestone", "The Hills", "Blank Space", "Used to Love You", "Glitterball", "Shades of Grey", "Melody", "Heartbeat Song" and "Desire" so far. Also, nice that a track from Axwell Λ Ingrsso made your YE chart, despite it's my least favourite from them. As a side note, I was going to complain why "Blank Space" didn't reach atop on your chart, but I forgot it didn't on mine. Anyway, we're twins because it also reached at #2.

#26 - You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile - Sia

Jan. 10 - #1 (2 weeks)

Your clothes may be Chanel, Gucci. Only one #1 song ranked lower than Sia's (I'm in Love With a Monster), but that's more a result of this hitting #1 right at the start of the year than anything else. It's hard to believe it's been a year since I saw Annie! I think Sia hitting #1 was in part because she's been shut out several times and it was a crime that she had never hit #1 on the chart before. #25 - Shut Up and Dance - Walk the Moon	April 25 - #3 (3 weeks)
This woman is my destiny Well, before radio started playing this a million times a day, I really loved this song - it was just the kind of poppy fun that could get me to sing along. It faced incredibly strong competition once it hit the top 3 and ended up plateauing there.  Chart Run: 20-16-14-10-6-4-3-3-3-6-7-11-15-18

#24 - Rumour Mill - Rudimental ft. Anne-Marie and Will Heard

Sep. 12 - #1 (2 weeks)

Don't test me now 'cause it's a test that you can't cheat. Credit Fancy for this entry as he introduced me to this and it's definitely one of the most danceable songs on the top 40. There needs to be more Anne-Marie in everyone's life - I really like her voice. Alas, Will Heard is the only one who has charted since, having just debuted last week with a new featured appearance.  Chart Run: 20-18-14-11-8-4-3-3-1-1-5-9-17-18-20

#23 - Next to Me - Otto Knows	Oct. 10 - #4 (1 week)
Now I'm dancing by myself out in the rain. This song had an extremely slow burn up the chart, taking thirteen weeks to reach its peak position. If its descent had been equally as long, it might have been a top five contender. Unfortunately, its descent came in the face of seasonal music which hastened its end.  Chart Run: 20-19-16-15-13-11-10-8-7-6-6-5-4-7-14-19

#22 - Take Your Time - Sam Hunt

Jan. 31 - #2 (2 weeks)

I don't want to steal your freedom OK, why are there no shirtless pictures out there of this guy? Surely, there must be given his penchant for tight shirts. Anyhow, this song start to make its impact a year ago, and nearly became the first country song to hit #1 in over two years on the chart. Sam Hunt has gone on to peak two more times in the top ten this year since then. One of my favorite new acts of 2015.  Chart Run: 9-7-5-3-2-2-5-7-12-12-16--17-18

#21 - Blue Skies - Lenka

Sep. 12 - #2 (2 weeks)

You're my baby through the bad lights to the greater days. Lenka caught my attention seven or eight years ago with a song called "Trouble Is a Friend," on my top 200 of all time. She has such a light, effervescent vote that works perfectly with a song as dreamy as this. It ended up being held out both weeks by Rudimental, but as you can see it ends up above it at year end.  Chart Run: 16-14-12-10-9-7-5-4-2-2-4-7-12-20

#20 - Bright Lights - Syn Cole (Sam Feldt remix)

Jan. 24 - #1 (3 weeks)

The colors aren't gray if you let in light This song might peak a few positions higher if I included it's December 2014 chart, but I think this song is more a beneficiary of my Bloesem obsession (my #1 song of the year, which charted into December last year), and Sam Feldt in general. It did make for an interesting chart coincidence as two different Sams made up my top 2 while it was at #1. I'm beginning to wonder if Syn Cole will be a one hit wonder on my chart. Merry Christmas!

Sorry for intermixing my regular weekly chart with the year-end chart, but I just didn't see the point of creating a separate thread for year end.

Anyhow, look at the beautiful colors of my Christmas chart. :'(

Chart Notes:

• Baby It's Cold Outside has it's third appearance in the top ten, and its most successful as the song makes the top 3 for the first time. Idina Menzel and Michael Buble peaked at #10 last year, and in 2004, well, you can see the retro chart for yourself.
• This is the second number one for Jessie J after her appearance on Bang Bang. Ariana also had her next #1 with Santa Tell Me last year. Nicki also hit #1 this year. You get a #1 follow-up! And YOU get a #1 follow-up! Everyone gets a #1 follow-up!
• Just as On My Mind falls off, Ellie Goulding makes a huge debut at #4. Only Adele's Hello debuted higher this whole year. Too bad that's probably about it for Ellie. 
  

A very seasonal chart this week in 2004 as Chris Isaak hit #1. It is to date his only appearance on my chart. The Barenaked Ladies had hit #1 earlier in December because as this year, Chanukah ended a couple weeks before Christmas. I thought I remembered Gwen being at #1 longer with What You Waiting For?, but I guess it only managed a single week at #1. The following week, all the seasonal songs would drop significantly, opening the way for Encore/Numb by Jay-Z/Linkin Park to top the charts.

#19 - Biscuits - Kacey Musgraves

May 2 - #1 (3 weeks)

I burned my own damn finger pokin' someone else's fire. When Kacey hit #1, it was a huge moment - no country female had ever hit #1 in the 17 years I'd had the chart. Several had come close - Leann Rimes, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood - they had all hit #2. But it was Kacey's simple song about minding your own damn business that finally broke through. #18 - Eres Mi Verdad - Maná featuring Shakira

May 30- #1 (2 weeks)

Mi bebe que me calma el alma con risas May was an unusual month. If country had suffered a dry spell from being at #1, Latin suffered a downright drought - no Latin song had hit #1 since 2006, and then  two of them hit #1 this past spring. This song looked like it would get no traction, and took one of the longest ever treks to #1 - and once I put it at #1, well by that point it had tons of play to the point of overplay and it quickly fell off the chart. #17 - Powerful - Major Lazer ft. Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley

Sep. 26- #3 (1 week)

Like lightning when I'm swimming in the sea. Powerful spent more weeks in the top 20 than any other this year, which should have garnered it a top ten placement (last year, it meant placing #2), but this was like Eres Mi Verdad in that more than half run was mired in the lower half of the chart - then song made a deliberate paced run towards #3 and then just as a deliberate pacing backwards.  Chart Run: 19-17-18-18-17-17-15-13-10-8-6-5-4-3-4-6-9-16-19-20

#16 - S.O.B. - Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats

Nov. 14 - #2 (1 week)

If I can't get clean, I'm gonna drink my life away. This song managed to fit most of its run in 2015, it might have jumped a place or two higher if its full run were to be included. This one kind of snuck up on me - I thought it was kind of retro and different and so I kept moving it - barely - up the chart and then one day it just sort of clicked in with me, that I loved it, and, as you can see, it raced towards #2, and then had an extremely slow descent after that. The song that held it out of #1 was one of the biggest hits of the year. Chart Run: 20-17-15-14-13-12-11-10-6-2-3-4-5-10-11-13-14

#15 - Hey Mama - David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj

June 27 - #2 (2 weeks)

You beatin' drum like dum di di dey Gosh, Nicki just looks cute as a button there and she sounds just as sweet as a doting wife/girlfriend in this song, but I think we all know it's just a front, and that's what makes this song so fantastic. It was poised to hit #1 earlier this year, but got rattled from the top by a DZ game, and then I started to lose interest. Don't cry for Nicki though because she has another song further up the top 40. Chart Run: 16-13-9-6-5-4-4-2-2-4-4-8-16-19

#14 - Riva (Restart the Game) - Klingande ft. Broken Back	June 6 - #2 (1 week)
Future ain’t what it used to be. The video sold this song for me. You really should click on that link because it's one of the most chilling videos (as opposed to stupid, attention-whoring stuff like Marilyn Manson) I have ever seen. This is another song I thought might make it to #1, but couldn't quite seem to make the final jump.  Chart Run: 20-13-9-8-6-5-4-4-4-3-2-9-10-13-20

#13 - Love Me Like You Do - Ellie Goulding	Mar. 21 - #1 (2 weeks)
What are you waiting for? It was a good year for Ellie who had no less than four songs make the top five this year. This was the only one to make it all the way to the top, and it's one of her best songs ever - there's something amazing about her voice that sounds fragile and powerful all at once. Cool to see "Biscuits", "Powerful", "S.O.B", "Riva (Restart the Game)" and "Love Me Like You Do", especially the last two tracks! That said, great to see Klingande made the Top 20. Also, regarding the picture you posted, glad to see you included one where Cédric and Edgar are on it, despite the latter isn't on the duo anymore.

As a side note, cool that "Eres Mi Verdad" made the Top 20 too, despite it isn't one of my favourites and I assume it's because I'm not so into Maná. Shakira, on the hand, makes it for me. Oh! And I can't wait for the other Latin track.

Chart Notes:

• Did you really think Adele would go down without a fight? She nabs an 8th week at #1 - one of just four songs this decade to hit that mark - Blurred Lines (8 weeks); Born This Way (9 weeks) and Rolling in the Deep (11 weeks)
• Looks like The Weeknd is going to continue his streak. He hasn't missed a week in the top 20 since he debuted with Earned It last May.
• Trini Dem Girls reverses course and reaches a new peak just before the end of the year. That makes three top 3 appearances in 2015.
  

The holiday season was slightly extended in 2005 as Missile Tow became one of three holiday songs to last a month at the top - the others - Kelly Clarkson' Underneath the Tree in 2013, and the very first #1 ever on my chart - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's COlorado Christmas, which held #1 for 5 weeks waaaay back in 1997. Wow, my chart is older than Mikey Josh Gracin didn't do too shabby either, holding at #2 for a third week. It was his 4th top ten appearance that year.
