Year End Pop's Top 40! - #12-#6
#12 - Show Me Love - Sam Feldt | Mar. 21 - #2 (3 weeks) | What I need is someone who will always be there.Last year's #1 year-end leader followed up on my chart with a song that almost ended being a year-end top 10 for him spending a couple months in the top five. It definitely benefitted from the post-Bloesem haze that I had, debuting just weeks after Blosem fell off the chart. Chart Run:20-17-12- 6-5-3-2-2-3-2-3-7-12-17-17-18
#11 - Shine - Years and Years | Aug. 29 - #1 (2 weeks) | I'll forget what I've done. I'll be redefined.Shine was kicked out of the top 10 for the year in the final week. If it had even just a little bit of a softer descent down the chart, ti would have been fine, but something in me wanted to make sure Years and Years hit #1 with SHine, even though by then I was starting to tire of the song. Chart Run:19-13-12-12- 10-8-7-7-5-2-2-1-1-8-13
#10- Dreams - Beck | Oct. 10 - #2 (4 weeks) | Oh get a dog and pony for a judgement day.Beck had some of the strongest competition of the year preventing him from hitting #1 - both of the songs that held him out appear in the top ten. This was a good year for Beck - winning at the Grammies and then coming out with this powerhouse single - it was Beck's first appearance on my chart since 2008 and one of his strongest. Chart Run:19-14- 10-7-3-2-2-2-4-2-5-7-11-17-17-19
#9 - Hello - Adele | Nov. 7 - #1 (8 weeks) | I must have called a thousand times.Adele would have been a contender for #1 of the year if her entire chart run could be considered, but everything from this point on goes to 2016. As of this posting, she still has the #1 song, and hasn't left the top two since her debut. The last song to spend 10 weeks in the top two? Rolling in the Deep, which actually did yield Adele a year-end #1 in the same year she also had the year-end #3, #4, and #6! The following year, she could be found at #7 and #8 for the year, so perhaps Adele will have had each top ten spot at year end by the time she releases the rest of her singles. Chart Run: 2-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-1
#8 - Good For You - Selena Gomez | Sep. 26- #2 (2 weeks) | Gonna wear that dress you like skin-tightGood For you had a huge run on the chart spending five months in the top 20 - it started tentatively and looked like it was going to peak at number #13 before recharging and powering up to #2. It is the highest ranking song this year that did not hit #1. It is thus far the only song by Selena to ever hit #1; I think I've held her Disney past against her, especially with that baby face of hers, but she definitely proved she's grown up with this song. Chart Run:17-15-13-16-20-20-13- 9-6-5-2-2-3-3-5-11-11-11-15-19-20
#7 - Ex's and Oh's - Elle King | Aug. 1 - #1 (4 weeks) | They always wanna come, but the never wanna leave. This is unusual because it's one of the few songs I remember first hearing on the radio, and instantly liked it - Elle has the kind of voice that isn't heard enough on the radio, and the bluesy sound of this song is the kind that isn't heard enough on the radio either. The song didn't waste too much tiem hitting number one and then had a nice leisurely descent to secure #7 for the year. Chart Run:15-13-13- 6-4-1-1-1-1-2-2-3-7-10-15-20
#6 - Uma Thurman - Fall Out Boy | Sep. 26 - #1 (5 weeks) | The stench, the stench of summer sex and CK Eternity, oh hell yesThis song took a LONG time from its initial listen (March) to its debut on the chart (August), but once it did it started a tear up the chart to become the second longest #1 one of the year (behind Adele). The sample of the Munsters theme song, especially once October hit proved irresistible, and Fall Out Boy found itself with its biggest showing ever in my year-end. (Dance Dance in 2006 did make it to #8 for the year.) Also, shout-out to Zeebz , who appears in the video! Chart Run: 18-16-12- 9-7-4-3-1-1-1-1-1-3-7-13-16-18

Your top ten is flawless, but I especially love the love for "Hello". Nice to see it sneak in there despite being released so late in the year!

Great to see "Shine" (sad it couldn't make the Top 10 though~), "Dreams", "Hello", "Good for You" and "Uma Thurman" so far.

Year End Pop's Top 40! - THE TOP FIVE
#5 - Truffle Butter - Nicki Minaj, Drake, and Lil Wayne | Feb. 14 - #1 (5 weeks) | I must have a quarter million on me right now.It was pretty close between the next three positions, but Truffle Butter had a pretty solid run with a five week ascent, a five week reign at the top and a five week descent, and was yet another solid point in Nicki's resurgence on my chart. I fully expected this song tobe a contender for top song of the year, but ti ended up slightly short of that. The song first hit #1 on Valentine's Day, but it was anything but a "Be Mine" letter. Chart Run:17-11- 9-5-4-1-1-1-1-1-3-3-5-11-15
#4 - My Type - Saint Motel | May 16 - #1 (1 week) | I'm a man who's got very specific taste. The blasting horns kind of immediately set the mood, don't they? This was a pretty instnat hit on my chart, but really struggled to get to #1, being held out by two different songs before it interrupted Biscuits' #1 stay. Those weeks in the runner-up position helped it greatly though as it makes a very strong showing for a song with only a week at the top. Chart Run:16-12- 7-6-4-4-2-2-2-2-1-3-5-9-15-18
#3 - Addicted to a Memory - Zedd featuring Bahari | June 13 - #1 (3 weeks) | We are an imagined ecstasy. This song shot to the top almost immediately. It made the biggest jump to #1 of the year, and then went on to have a nice lengthy stay in the top five, which add up to Bronze finish at the end of the year. Zedd throws everything but the kitchen sink into this song from the dreamy, lush vocals of Bahari to the video game breakdown. Chart Run:17-13- 10-1-2-3-3-1-1-2-2-2-5-9-11-16
#2 - Juntos - Juanes | Apr. 4 - #1 (4 weeks) | Hoy me regalo este nuevo dΓa.Juntos spent a lengthy 20 week stay on the chart, with thirteen of those weeks in the top 10, more than any other song this year. It came within just a few points of being the #1 song in one of the tightest finishes ever. But don't be too sad for Juanes - he already had the #1 song of the year - La Camisa Negra ten years ago. Juntos has a very similar sound to that song! It also made for the second year in a row that a Disney song topped my chart. (Let It Go made it to #1 in January of 2014.) Chart Run:
18-13- 9-9-7-6-5-4-1-1-1-1-4-7-8-14-16-18-20-20
#1 - King - Years and Years | June 27 - #1 (3 weeks) | Let go, let go, let go of everything. So the license plate you see on the right was one I saw the week King went to #1. Andnow I can use it to symbolize its statusas my #1 song of the year. No song spent more tie in the top ten this year than King, with 14 weeks, which pretty much lasted the entire summer. It battled with Zedd, but in the end, the one extra week it had in the top ten would appear to make the difference. I don't think I've ever had a year-end #1 so appropriately named. With three songs in the year-end top 40, and four top ten songs overall, Years and Years is also the #1 artist of the year. Chart Run: 18-18- 10-7-6-4-3-3-3-1-1-2-2-1-3-7-12-13-17

So glad "Run Away With Me" is #1. Perhaps there is some bizarro alternate universe where I love Carly and she was #1 for 39 weeks straight this year. I bet you're really jealous of the josh in that universe.

Chart Notes: - Coldplay makes its anticipated move to the top of the chart, and gets their 7th number one in the process. That ties them for third place with Adele, who is sitting at #2 with HER 7th number one, and Gaga, who can be found at unlucky #13 this week. No band has hit #1 more than them, and only Beyonce and Eminem has hit #1 more.
- Four debuts this week! That's the most since well, let's see... this time last year when seasonal songs fell off a cliff then as well. Leading the list is Martin Garrix, who could be found in the top 10 as recently as October when "Dragon" managed to climb to #6
- Ariana makes a surprise jump this week, but it will likely be short-lived as eight songs lower than her are currently on their way up.
We go back to 2007 with this list, and we find a very Rock-based top five. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were aloft on what has ended up being the their last song to chart on my list. It's also the last time both U2. I completely forgot the song "High School Never Ends" existed until I posted this top 5.

Late, but I've just seen your EOY Top 5. Anyway, glad to see "Juntos (Together)" made at #2. I wasn't expecting to see Juanes so high. Also, cool that "King" reached atop and see "Addicted to a Memory" and "My Type" there as well.

I don't do points as I go during the year because I like to be surprised too. I completed expected Truffle Butter to finish in the top 3, and thought it might contend for #1, but I guess it didn't spend as many in the weeks in the top 10 as I thought I remembered. Juntos was a complete shock, and it actually was really close to being #1 for year, which would have stunned me - it really came down to weeks in the top 10 this year. A worthy #2 and I still love every song in the top 5.

Chart Notes: - Adele spends a 12th week in the top three becoming the first song to do so in just over four years - Dedication to My Ex earned it's 12th week in the top 3 in December 2011, though it was not consecutive (it slipped to #4 on week in there). The last song to do it consecutively was "Someone Like You."
- The 1975 have their second top 10 with "Love Me." They hit #1 with Chocolate in the spring of 2014.
- Congratulations to Lady Gaga and her Golden Globe win! I wonder if she can parlay this into an acting career. On this chart, she manages to extend the holiday season one last week, but gets the biggest fall of the week. Thanks to Baby, It's Cold Outside, Gaga has had at least one top ten every year since 2008-2015. Coldplay's string also goes to back to 2008, but since they are in the top 10 this week, their string is extended to 2016, and thus, the longest current streak.
Hmm, so here's the 2008 list, and I'm like, really? Ellen Page - I remembered I LOVED Juno, but charting a song from it? And I don't remember liking the Maroon 5 song THAT much. Typical January chart - probably these songs reached higher positions than normal because there was nothing yet to take their place after the holiday season. I still love Low though! I remember my son made up lyrics to it a year or two later - "The whole club is looking at her - she hit the floor! She hit the couch! She hit the chair!"
