If Surround Sound enters the 2024 YE it'll be practically impossible for it not to he the best hit of the year Iโd agree if White Horseโs chances of becoming a hit didnโt exist.

All of the accusations of chart gaming chicanery are pretty funny coming from lambs tbh. Mimi has a well documented track record of gimmicks to improve her chart positions.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to RATCT's thousand year reign.

I'm hoping "One More Sleep" by Leona will get some love on the playlists and move up. I'm not asking for much but it would be great if it could one day chart on the Hot 100. Sadly the main spotify Christmas playlists tend to be very US-focused so Leona doesn't usually get high placements. this is one of my most favorite (modern) christmas songs... well, xmas song period! it is a staple for me each year!! One More Sleep is a certified Christmas bop. Love it.

Among one of the most ridiculous chart arguments I have EVER seen. Among one of the most ridiculous chart arguments I have EVER seen. Lol The way Brenda has been catching up this years, and nearly beating her last year we all knew Brenda would get #1 this year. I don't think anyone who has been paying attention was surprised Brenda got to #1 this year, and that's not what anyone was upset about. I personally predicted Brenda to get a week at #1 last year; that didn't happen then, but it shows I've been seeing this coming. This past August I predicted it would go to #1 this year. The fact that people still can't seem to get that the complaints about the most recent Hot 100 had nothing to do with Brenda getting to #1 and everything to do with the specifics of how it happened is just evidence of being obtuse. Notice not a single person is pointing out anything about this current chart week where "RATCT" is predicted to be #1 again, and that's because nothing unusual has happened on streaming platforms this week whereas it did last week. Anyway, here is an article with Billboard staff discussing "RATCT" going to #1, though tbh most of them seem to know less about all of this than we do (one of them says she thinks this past week at #1 was a one week flare up for "RATCT" lmao): Brenda Leeโs โRockinโ Around the Christmas Treeโ Finally Hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 โ So Now What? They do suggest other holiday songs may not get a big push since the door has been opened. I think it will be tough for another modern holiday song to go to #1 because 'Christmas Classics' is so huge, but maybe Universal will want to push "A Holly Jolly Christmas" or something if it has an upcoming anniversary (though it also needs to be noted Universal Nashville got a new CEO this past spring, and I think she championed Brenda Lee this season; not sure if she'd be as interested in pushing a different song/artist).

I am happy for Brenda Lee. Great song and nice lady BUT an old Christmas song like this just gets played and streamed rotely. I see Judy Garland's Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas has entered one of the lessor Billboard charts and maybe a precursor to it eventually charting on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was part of Judy Garland's musical Meet Me in St Louis in 1944. It is a beautiful song and movie scene, and her song gets airplay every Christmas but just not enough for the Hot 100. It might get close and enter it in a future year. I'd be happy to hear it does BUT it has nothing to do with people clamoring for Judy Garland. It just happens to be a beautiful song that gets played. It is not like Judy Garland is working it because she died in 1969. Like most of those old Christmas songs, this artist is dead. Their music is played and streamed and bought because it is nostalgic. If Judy's song ever enters the Billboard Hot 100 or Bubbling Under chart, it will be fun but not something that really can be compared when an artist gets a NEW song to chart. If a major artis like Taylor Swift or Drake used a song like Judy's and added their tracks over it and the song entered the Hot 100, she'd get credit but in reality, have nothing much to do with it. The Christmas charts were always separate. They would allow the Christmas song to enter the Billboard Hot 100 in whatever year it did but then in future years the songs would be on the annual Christmas charts in Billboard.
It would be funny if Benda Lee got 4 week or 5 this year, then 5 next year and the next year and the next. Eventually RATCT would have 20+ weeks at #1 and eventually would have the record for the most weeks at #1 for any song in history. While I love the song and love Brenda, this would sort of make the record silly. I think Mariah's people and Mariah will do everything humanly possible to regain their #1 spot and it would continue to hit #1 again and again in future years. The thing is Brenda cannot chart a new song whatsoever and Mariah barely can chart on the Hot 100 for a non-Christmas song unless she teams up with a hot artist. It just seems that these records are a bit unfair. NEW Christmas songs struggle for airplay on radio and sales and streams. Deceased artists like Dean and Bing and Johnny and Burl and Judy and all the others just get played or streamed. It feels like 2 different systems. I miss the times when Dec meant the Billboard Charts had current music and new Christmas songs and the old songs were on the Christmas charts. It also gave artists with new Christmas songs a chance to catch on. I love the old Christmas music but would like to see the new stuff get a chance.
Oh well, at least Brenda gives us a new #1 for a change during the holidays.

At some point - the 19 week at #1 Old Town Road record will be broken by a Christmas song, just a matter of time

Wasn't RATCT moved to #3 on a particular list compared to #1 last week. Not a huge difference, but still. And I won't even go into the rest otherwise, circles again as before! lol

Okay so RATCT got a week at #1, and it was cute and all, but can we now please get back to regular programming where Mariah was saving the world from the perils of having trash as its longest 1 song in history?

Okay so RATCT got a week at #1, and it was cute and all, but can we now please get back to regular programming where Mariah was saving the world from the perils of having trash as its longest 1 song in history? No

I really don't think RATCT is going to start collapsing anytime soon. Doesn't she have a Xmas special tomorrow or something? Even without the promo I think these numbers are kinda here to stay.

I mean it was a matter of time before a different Christmas favorite shot past Mariah, seeing all the memes year after year about AIWFCIY's reign showcased a sorta growing resentment for the track, with all that overplay and the massive social media promo Mariah's team does every year, especially going earlier and earlier with them pushing the track directly after Halloween (which is particularly funny seeing how all the lambs are reacting to Brenda right now), it's been massively overexposed for way too long. Rockin' just happened to be trailing behind it every year, which is why it managed to surpass it this year, but in general I wouldn't be shocked if different holiday songs rotate the top spot every year now. Last Christmas seems to be next on the list of Holiday #1 hits with how much it's grown over the years and continues to grow.
Mariah's song is still big of course and will probably take the top spot back again this year, but I think Brenda going #1 is way less cynical than people realize.

Incredible seeing Surround Sound finally get a chance at becoming a hit. The Forever Story is one of my favorite albums of 2022 & the song is a clear highlight from that album. Now if only radio can start getting behind the song...

I can see Last Christmas slingshot to #1 within a few years. Its been steadily gaining relative to other xmas songs, rising from #6 in 2021 to #4 in 2022, passing up Andy Williams & Burl Ives. Jingle Bell Rock maybe gets a turn too, but that would require both Brenda Lee's song taking a step back and for Last Christmas to not have eclipsed it yet.

Okay but do you know what the charts are meant to do? Intent and whether people love the artist or whether an artist is alive for the records and chart appearance literally doesnโt matter in any way. For years, people cited that the record for biggest selling single of all time was Bing Crosbyโs โWhite Christmas.โ Even in July, that was a regularly stated and accepted fact until Elton John came along. Should that not have counted because it was a Christmas song? Or because heโs dead?

Jingle Bell Rock already looks like a #2 contender. Yes, possibly. It will be tough as it's fairly far behind "AIWFCIY" at the moment, but this shows it might have some wide appeal: Clearly Apple is not as big of a streaming platform as Spotify during the holidays since "RATCT" isn't even top 10 there and it doesn't matter, but it's interesting "JBR" is the second most streamed holiday song at Apple (at least at the moment). This is beneficial if the label wants to get "JBR" to #2 or even #1. I think "JBR" falls under the Universal label, so maybe at some point they will give it a push like they did for "RATCT" this year. It has its 70th anniversary in 2027.

I'll take this over the moaning of how "boring" the Hot 100 is in December.

Cher's new holiday song is now top 40 at Top 40 radio. That's actually really good for a new holiday song, and it could get the highest peak for a new holiday song since "AIWFCIY." These are the ones I know of:
"All I Want for Christmas is You" - #9 (this really was huge right away; it got to #35 in 1996 and in 1997, too) "This Gift" (98 Degrees) - #23 "Merry Christmas" (Ed/Elton) - #36 "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays" (NSync) - #37 ("DJ Play a Christmas Song" - #38) "Santa Tell Me" (Ariana) - #39 "Mistletoe" (Bieber) - #46 "Like It's Christmas" (Jonas Brothers) - #48
I don't know where "My Only Wish (This Year)," "Underneath the Tree," and "Christmas Tree Farm" peaked. If anyone knows those or others, please reply.
