I'm sure her label is thinking "sure, if Janet pays for it." She's married to a billionaire. She should just buy part ownership in Island's funky ass. Exactly. Look, she was un-recouped with Virgin when she left them. It was not pretty. I don't know what her later albums cost to make, but i'm sure they weren't cheap. That billionaire can take care of the RIAA certs, lol.

I'm probably in the minority, but I love"Unbroken," and she was in top form vocally. The critics liked it too, which is not surprising because it was full of well-crafted Kara Dioguardi songs. It was a great collaboration in that sense.

They need to certify Discipline since it finally cracked 500k. I'm sure her label is thinking "sure, if Janet pays for it."

The remix is cool, and I give Big Machine mad props for taking some risks when they don't have to. This works. That being said, I still prefer the original version (my fave on the album) as it sounds like one of the best songs Avril never recorded.

Louboutins is SO underrated. I don't care what anyone says about that song but the performance sold it to me. That ish should have been at least a TOP50 sleeper hit i love that song and was like WHY IS THIS FLOPPING? The mix for the award show ("the champ is here") is so good! Hey it went to #1 on the Club Play chart and the remixes were scorching. The clubs gave it plenty of love.

Katy's performance was spectacle and super entertaining. I also thought she sounded great (for what it's worth). I've seen the Teenage Dream and Prismatic tours, and am obviously a fan, but I loved what she did here. Even if 25% of the viewers didn't love it, the exposure and opportunity is insane!

I think Ariana has a really great voice, but here's another time where her material failed her. I wish she'd work with Walter Afanasieff. I'm sure he's got a ton of unrecorded Mariah ballads that she could destroy. And who is she going to market that too? I don't think people are raving/jumping for any 90s ballads right now. Her music is fine. She just needs to work on her stage presence, imo. I don't have a simple answer, but all I know is that I would buy it! (P.S. I realize i'm not exactly her target market, so whatever) Right now, the ballads she is singing are not worthy of the airtime.

Katy Perry gave my favorite performance of the night. She did the exact opposite of her Super Bowl performance and made people pay attention to a really pretty song. Brilliant choice.

Holy cow. But, the movie is a supposed turkey. Will the sdtk. have legs?? Honestly, I think it will. You don't have to enjoy the movie to enjoy the soundtrack. There's the Ellie Goulding hit + countless other tracks and artists that will get people's interests. Exactly. I have zero interest in the film but the soundtrack is totally awesome. I can't get enough of the Ellie Goulding. Max Martin is a god and seeing him at the Grammy's was awesome. It's too bad they didn't air that award.

Wait. What's happening with the catalog albums? Nothing. IMO, I want them off the BB200. Except that Billboard was given a ton of pressure to make things this way after the tragic passing of Michael Jackson. People wanted to see his albums scale the upper regions of the chart, and they were nowhere to be seen since catalog albums were not allowed. The restructuring gives us a better picture of these "historic" events, so I think Billboard did the right thing. People are going to complain either way.

Very excited that she'll be doing some of her classics that she co-wrote with Walter A. They better put out a DVD or CD of the concert at some point!

I have a question, how come in the "Catalog" album chart Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas is way below other Xmas albums like Kelly's, Josh Groban's and Pentatonix (Volume 1) to name a few, but in the BB200 she's above all of them? How is that possible? Mariah's album is way older, and many more people already have it. That would be my guess.

"Hey Mama" - #18 "Ships In The Night" - #22 I had a feeling they weren't very high. "Ships in the Night" is amazing, I'm surprised it couldn't beat "Hey Mama", let alone hit the Top 20. #1 imo lol. I know it's a different radio genre, but let's not ignore his massive success on single "Down" at Christian radio which sat at #1 for weeks! (I believe that Sooner or Later may have charted somewhere as well) I wore Young Love out, so I can't wait for Just Kids.

Mariah Carey's 'Merry Christmas' 20th Anniversary: Find Out What Went Into Making a Modern Christmas Classic I know in the past Mariah has mentioned that she would love to do a movie adaptation of “All I Want For Christmas is You.” Do you have an opinion on that? Here’s the thing. We don’t have a relationship, Mariah and I. We shared a moment in our lives, but then she had to split off from the rest of us. So with all of her personal angst and her personal, emotional split up with her husband meant she had to split up with [all of us]. These were her personal choices….She let that be the status quo, so we haven’t worked together since the Butterfly album. I don’t know any of her plans or decisions for the future about stuff I created with her. I would hope that I would have seen something this year, being that it’s the 20th anniversary, but I have not seen or heard anything. For the non-original songs on the album, out of all the Christmas music, how did you and Mariah decide on which songs made the cut?It was always a companion decision between Mariah and Tommy and the record company. So Tommy being the record company and being her partner and husband, we were always subject to his opinion and guidance. Mariah really took his wisdom very seriously, because if you don’t have the support of the record company, you might as well hang up. You need to have the partnership. Mariah also has specific styles she wanted to sing; she wanted a variety that really exemplified her voice and took her to places that she normally wouldn’t go to in her pop career. You’ve worked with so many iconic artists over the years. What’s the key to a successful writing or producing partnership? To me, the key to any collaboration is to make sure that you are keeping your integrity intact and that you are true to yourself because today it is very difficult to do that because of the flavor of the month, people get on the radio doing a very particular thing today. You can’t just do whatever you want and get on the radio like in the old days. So people have been selling out, and really subscribing to a very narrow lane of music creation just to get on the radio. That to me is a very bad part about the music business. I’m very saddened by that and very unsupportive of that. I love all music. If you’ve got something to say, you should be able to say it and I think if you’ve got something to say people should be able to hear it if they want. In the old days, and I’m talking about 20 years ago, we were doing Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Michael Bolton, New Kids on the Block. We were all working hand in hand to create music that had their integrity and their strength and style was shining brightly as forever artists. Today you have a very hard time finding forever artists in the mainstream pop that is being produced. So, that’s my spiel. Everyone had their moment of glory, but the ones who kept their moment of glory forever were those that were true to themselves. Source: www.billboard.com/articles/news/6296926/mariah-carey-merry-christmas-anniversary-all-i-want-for-christmas?mobile_redirection=false Thanks to Linkinfan815 for posting this article, (i reposted just a piece of it above) It's not every day that you hear Walter being asked about Mariah, so I though that the above portions were a fascinating read. I know it would never happen, but I would love it if Mariah and Walter could celebrate the 20th anniversary of Merry Christmas together somehow. They certainly made some amazing magic together.

The track listing is definitely minimal. There were more singles that were left off as well. I think he could have gotten away with adding a few album tracks on there too to beef it up a bit and push it to 15 or 16 tracks. Agreed, but i'm sure that there will be a Playlist down the road that will cover the rest. The Diane Warren track "You Got Me" is pretty (although nothing really special) but closes the set nicely. I love Fire so it would be great that he leaves RCA with one last hit. Thrilled to see what's next for him...

This was an easy choice for the label, as this is definitely the most single-ready song on the album. Very catchy and fun. It won't hit "Am I Wrong" success levels, but it should do decent.

Jessie J selling less than Hoodie Allen is embarassing. America just doesnt care about her. She just needs a clearer identity and better material to match that voice. I have friends who still think Katy Perry sang Domino. Sad really. (for my friends and Jessie J, LOL)

Well, unfortunately, it's not that strong a song. Why throw a bunch of money at radio if the payback isn't going to be great. Phillip can probably use that money elsewhere - better touring equipment to help create a lasting tour fan base. This is where he'll need to bank it - not radio - to keep a career going. I just saw his tour a few weeks ago and it was great, he gives it everything he's got. Unpack Your Heart is pretty catchy and he performed it fantastic live. There's no reason why this shouldn't perform well, except for the fact that Raging Fire really underperformed, and that is a better track. I'm pulling for him to stick around.

I would love to see "Out In The Open" get a push for next year's Pride. The label could conceivably put a package of remixes together for nearly every track. (sidebar, I was so hoping for "Lead Me On" to make it on the disc)
It's a fantastic CD though, and I'm listening non-stop.

Okay, quick run-down from me. -When the f**k did Fifth Harmony get a fanbase???? When I saw them open for Cher Lloyd, the tweens were going ape-sh*t over every single thing they did. I think their EP opened Top 10 in several international markets too. Someone is definitely doing their job.

I didn't really have an issue with them saying they wouldn't pay for the expenses of the halftime show until I read this That is absurd Exactly. That was the part that was missing and it is just absurd. I agree with the above poster that if the NFL is going to get this silly, just bring out a marching band and do away with the half time show. They want their cake and eat it too.

This article seems to be missing something. Like, who really thought this would be a good idea? I could maybe see the artist's label shouldering some of the excess production cost if NFL put a cap on things like that, but having the performer pay really makes no sense.
