It's kind of true. James Durbin at LEAST went as hard as he could on his first album, but shifted gears entirely for his second (and far superior IMO album, Celebrate). But Bo Bice, Daughtry, Caleb, all could have been positioned straight into Rock, but their singles were strictly AC/Hot AC and Top 40 with Daughtry. Whatever works I guess. Daughtry released rock singles. Okay, thanks for the reminder. But by the second album, the label abandoned Rock radio right?

I'm not threatened, but Caleb says he's the first true rocker. Stuff like this is not rock. I enjoy both singers, but it's clear which one made the rock impression. There is an argument to be made that no one on "American Idol" is a "true rocker." Rock and the show don't really mix. It's kind of true. This is How We Do. I wish it were Rita Ora's "How We Do (Party)" instead. Catchier, overlooked track.
Saw Katy's tour at Barclay's on Friday. Holy Moly. What a show! From start to finish, I was blown away. My favorite part was probably the acoustic section with Ferras joining, and also the medley of "The One That Got Away and Thinking Of You." "By the Grace of God" was gorgeous.
Walking on Air was every bit of spectacle I hoped it would be. She seriously tore up that stage. Any chance that HBO is going to tape one of her shows and air it? Or any network? I need to have a Blue Ray/DVD of this concert!!

This could be the week frozen leaves the top 5 (and will probably return right after anyway ) Especially because Idina sang TWO songs at the All-Star game and wasn't terrible either. Sidebar, Idina was brought up rather uncomfortably when Taye Diggs was on Watch What Happens Live recently.

I realize this is for the USA only, but I still love my Westlife.

One of her best vocals and live performances!! She has really learned how to control her voice and her belting has better execution. Maybe she should take a residency up on Broadway, she can get those acting chops up to par and sing to her hearts content. A win win. I have a feeling we'll see her on Broadway, but I hope it's not for a while. (after all, she does have to get one step closer to the EGOT)

This is a heartbreaking story that should never have never gone public. But things definitely got crazy and took some weird turns. I hope that he's not suffering.

This was a pretty big hit on the Christian charts well over a year ago. The song was even remixed and promoted to the clubs a ways back. Although not overtly religious, the theme of this single is a bit more Christian leaning that past singles pushed to AC. I don't see this working on this format this time around.

This was one of my faves from The High Road and one of my fave non-single Diane Warren ballads. (there are so many though, it's ridiculous!) Exceptional seemed like such a no-brainer for AC play, but I guess Blackground wanted to avoid pigeon-holing her there at such a young age. So they released "How To Touch A Girl" instead? haha. Her label was just always a f**king mess . Yeah, basically self-sabotage on that one. I can totally see JoJo coming back huge with the right song. She's got the talent.

Diane Warren did that?! Well, that was actually one of my favorite songs on The High Road. I just feel like Diane will give JoJo another Exceptional. This was one of my faves from The High Road and one of my fave non-single Diane Warren ballads. (there are so many though, it's ridiculous!) Exceptional seemed like such a no-brainer for AC play, but I guess Blackground wanted to avoid pigeon-holing her there at such a young age. Anyway, Diane has still churned out great songs recently (Cher's "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" comes to mind) but she's been given such a cold shoulder. I'd love to see a DW resurgence and maybe JoJo can do it! (or at the very least, some good non-single filler)

^ Agreed, Sweet Despair is fantastic. Bind Your Love is super catchy. I'm not sure why they went with Sirens, gun-to-head, I can't remember the melody once it's over. "I Wish" should have been huge. I think the album is pretty solid, and the songs played great live when I saw her a few months ago. I want some USA success for her.

I wonder why the Billboard performance hologram was to Slave to the Rhythm and not this song. Maybe because Slave is a full on dance track and would have allowed the animators (or whatever they're called) to showcase his signature dance moves...

Anybody remember country singer Kellie Coffey? "When You Lie Next To Me" was her only crossover hit, eventually peaking at #14 here. She has pretty much been branded as a one-hit wonder in the country world. The follow-up single "At the End of the Day" did reach #18 on country, but she has not reached the top 20 since, and her 2nd album was shelved. Her last charting single was in 2004 with a cover of Luther Vandross' "Dance With My Father." Her album was SO good. I can't believe that she vanished as fast as she did. (The Luther cover was major disappointing though). I remember the first single from her shelved second album was the fantastic "Texas Plates." Love her voice.

I like the DJ Escape & Tony.Coluccio mixes the most. I found the original to be just so-so so this is a major improvement. I really wish they hadn't white-washed the chords from the chorus. Otherwise I would have enjoyed what they did a lot more. I'm not feeling the other mixes either. Kind of hoping a few other mixes or bootlegs surface (calling Toy Armada & DJ Grind!) to give me what I need for this track.

I was at Arista when her first record dropped and the label REALLY wanted Joy to happen. Some of the ideas of marketing her more and getting her name out there were pretty wild. They really did try at the time and we met her and she was quite lovely.
I missed the boat on her comeback last summer but I need to check out the songs because she is talented.
The Tamar comeback comparisons are pretty apropos...

OMG YES!!! Sony needs to do the same thing with RCA, Jive, and Arista! All of that consolidation did no one any good. Although I wonder what that means for Mariah's upcoming album? The consolidation was necessary. Jive and RCA were hemorrhaging money and Arista was pretty much a dead imprint. The Universal labels actually make money.

I have major, MAJOR flashbacks of this time. Those four songs at the top were literally up there for nearly a year. It was MADNESS!

Although it's an unpopular opinion around these parts, I love these cheesy 90's ballads by Diane Warren. Screw what's unpopular at Pulse. Diane Warren is a God. End of discussion. I believe she was the producer of this track too. (and as I mentioned earlier, Frankie Knuckles (RIP) did the remixes.) Amazing!

I found Escape/Coluccio mix to be a rare miss from this duo. I found it pretty dull, and I normally sweat everything they do.
I'm going to go with Aude's take on this. The tiny chord change in the chorus was subtle enough to make me pay attention to the song in a different way but it didn't stray from the heart of it all. Papercha$er are good but they don't really suit the song.

Katy Perry spends her 15th week at #1, however next week #1 is anybody's guess. Only 56 spins separated #1 from #4!!! Sara Bareilles is not too far out of it. She is 68 spins away from #4. I see what you're doing here. :) Don't tease. Sara's done here.

I don't understand the fascination with the music from the movie. Maybe I need to see the movie. But on their own, they're pretty mediocre to average on the whole. same. But so many people posting here how it didn't all work until they saw the movie. Once you see the movie, and see the way the songs are incorporated, it's all pretty much flawless. I couldn't help but think how much it seemed like an animated Wicked (i.e the sisters, the casting of Idina, the teenage girl target audience, etc...) It's going to be overkill having both shows running on Broadway when Frozen eventually happens.

There are SO many bootleg remixes, but my favorite by far and away is the Toy Armada & DJ GRIND Club Mix. Fire.

Also, the lyrics to "Burn with You" are so uncomfortable given Cory's death I'm trying not to think of Cory when I listen to this track because the lyric is really great on its own. It made me think of Tina Arena's "Burn" (a very different song altogether) but still, good stuff.

I'm here for anything they do, but this was never a fav for me. I'd much rather have "Burning Bridges", that being said I hope this is a hit for them Burning Bridges seemed like the obvious choice to me. I guess it's too predictable?
