this is a good poll b/c a lot of these people truly are underrated. I almost put Blu Cantrell-- but decided not to since she did get the Grammy nom, even though she didn't win. Shoulda been a huge album though.
Kelis I really almost put, too-- the album is one of the best in years and could have at least a half dozen hit singles, but isn't doing so well right now. But I didn't pick her b/c "Milkshake" was the biggest hit of her career.
Deborah Cox has always been underated, but the last effort was kinda eh...
Jewel sold out, no way I'd pick her. Mandy wants to act not sing. Foxy Brown just has other issues. Leann is still overrated IMO.
So I pick Monica-- even though "So Gone" was a big hit (at least at R&B) and the album hit #1, since this summer it's been underperforming. THe real clencher is the almost COMPLETE lack of any awards recognition.

Well, after being a Monica fan from the beginning of he career, I have to say that ATS was not as good as her last album. "DGGH" is a hot song and I thinkit should have been released. ITs one of the few single worthy tracks among the rest of the filler material....but It was also on DMX's album but with additional vocals from DMX so it would have been a problem wit who the song would be credited to, what verses would be used, who would be featured, would it be a duet, who would pay for the video, different ideas for the video, who's album would benefit most, ect ect ect. So thats why it wasnt released.....too much politics The only other song that had a chance of doing well was "got to bed mad" I dont really like the song much but with 2 sexy artists on a song like that it woulda done well....i sexy video.....it woulda also had alot of street cred. and as a Urban artist that is needed to sell records. pure conjecture that doesnt really add up

Wouldn't have made a difference. This album is a flop compared to her past. yeah, a #1 flop with the #4 R&B song of the year what would have made the biggest difference was promoting the song and getting the video out around the same time as sending it to radio, instead of more than a month after. it was also a bit of a problem that "knock knock" and "so gone" sound a little similar. an um Sean a ballad has been released now and is doing well so far. and the "all eyez on me" material that you speak of was all kept with the exception of the title track and what were truly filler tracks.

it's really hard for me not to vote for "Vision of Love" b/c that's gotta be one of the top 200 songs ALL TIME. that being said, since Mariah has many votes already, i'll give it to Monica. that song is a landmark, at least in contemporary R&B, and introduced one of my 2 favorites ever. it was also a crossover hit (only miss #1 hot 100 b/c of 'waterfalls') etc etc... so, monica most all of those are decent, but only two others stand out "hold on" & "motown philly"

Jennifer is flat out better, hate to say it guys. Also, she's shown REAL growth-- listen to "Waiting for Tonight" then listen to say, "Baby I Love You!" and you can tell.

"Street Symphony" is great and all but "So Gone" is a classic.

I would replace "Lies" and "Too Gone, Too Long" with "Give It Up, Turn It Loose" and "Runaway Love"
"Don't Let Go (Love)" is probably the best, but all of them (with the above replacements) are awesome. Other great ones are "You Don't Have To Worry", "Hooked On Your Love", "Desire", "Crazay In Love", and "Ooh Boy".

that's like asking, Destiny's Child or 702? Both had quite a few hits but one had more, more awards, more status... and more talent.

"Creep" could be on a top 100 of the Rock & Roll era list it's that good; but all of these are great songs.

Which of these soulful singers is more soulful? ??? I vote for Tatyana Ali because she can feature Will Smith to knock out Alicia Keys. you've given me a great idea for another poll!

Ahhh... definitely "All Eyez On Me" and not just because I like Monica so much. I feel like "All Eyez On Me" failed for reasons other than being a bad song, lol.

Whitney's song is so good... Elvis really only gets props because it's such a classic... Kelly Price and FAITH EVANS break the tie
4-1 Whitney

They're both good songs yet I think "Emotions" clearly wins.

I think "For You I Will" is one of the best songs ever, definitely one of Diane's best. Plus Monica killed it.
