Here's the music video, maybe it'll help you with your enthusiasm or create the demise of your recent liking of this song. That was neat, thanks. Plus it was the perfect excuse to go ahead and play the song again, when I otherwise would have waited longer to listen to it, as to not risk overdoing it so soon.

They're 3 for 3 with top-notch singles from this album so far. I took an mp3 copy of the album from a friend last summer, but have yet to check it out. I'm pretty bummed that there's no way I can realistically evaluate it before I make my list of favorite albums of 2011. What's lame is that my Active-leaning Alt station ignored "Pumped Up Kicks" and "Helena Beat," but finally got on board with this, earning it the last slot on their year-end countdown yesterday. Better late than never, I suppose. Glad you could join us at the party, finally.

Woke up this morning with the chorus in my head as well as the instrumental part of the pre-chorus (IIRC). I cannot wait to see where this eventually ends up on my chart when I make it later in the week. My enthusiasm for this song, which has gone from negligible to red-hot in fewer than 5 spins thus far, is surprising me and I love it.

Never did warm up much to "Sail," therefore it's longevity was a little annoying. When this first hit the chart, I streamed it on All Access a couple times and wasn't impressed. Heard it in the car over a week ago. I think I may have streamed it again a couple days later and it sounded better. Caught it on my Alt station's year-end countdown this morning and it's grown on me even more. Starting to dig this tune quite a bit and wouldn't be surprised if it makes my personal chart in the next week or two.

There is the possibility of some success in the U.S. if it proves to do well in Australia. While I would absolutely love for that to happen, it's completely unrealistic to hope that a successful run in Australia would renew American interest in the album so long after "Bulletproof Heart" (their best option for a third U.S. single) was tepidly received. If everything was right with the world, yes, both "The Kids From Yesterday" and "Planetary" would've gone on to become smash hit singles.

What I've been hearing reminds me of eclectic, mid-period Used, who are among one of my favorite bands from the past decade. Hey Nicholas, I can't remember if we discussed this here, but how do you feel about D.R.U.G.S.? I don't know that you and I have ever talked about them at all, actually. I streamed "Sex Life" regularly from All Access earlier this year, which was pretty decent, but the song wasn't quite enough to make me seek out anymore of their stuff. Is it a good record? Do you think I'd like it?

Apart from the singles, I've ignored the For We Are Many album entirely as I found both of the previous singles to be quite far below average, and I thought Overcome (the album they broke out at radio on with the fairly-good-but-nothing-I'd-write-home-about "Two Weeks" and "Forever In Your Hands") was a lot worse than the one before it The Fall Of Ideals with gems like "This Calling", "Six", and "It Dwells In Me". This song however has renewed my interest in these guys and now forces me to consider giving this record a chance. I hope the radio version doesn't edit it at all. The production, the form, the layering of the acoustic guitars, and the overall emotional arc make this by far the most distinctive and best song All That Remains has sent to radio. Hopefully it can be their first top 5. I immediately prioritized streaming this song based on this. Thrown off guard by how slow it is. I'm gonna need more time for this song to sink in. I've been aware of ATR since 2004 and have a downloaded copy of This Darkened Heart that I still haven't gotten around to beyond the 3 singles I knew from Headbangers Ball. I've since liked "Two Weeks" and "The Last Time" more than any of their other singles to date, but I don't know that I really have a full album's worth of interest in the band at the end of the day. I do like Phil Labonte and always root for these guys to do well, though.

I'm a little embarrassed to say I kind of like ["The Drug in Me Is You."] If I had no idea what they looked like and had no idea the ex-singer for Escape the Fate was involved, I wouldn't feel guilty about it. ...*sigh* I don't know how they pulled it off again, but it's so frustrating for me to enjoy these two impressively catchy (albeit overproduced) singles from this band when everything about their image and background beyond the actual songs themselves is such embarrassing, disposable scene garbage marketed toward the generation after mine. I don't ever want to see anymore photos of them, I never want to see any of their videos, I don't want to see their album artwork. I am somewhat curious, though, now, about hearing the album. I can't imagine Falling in Reverse sustaining this kind of decent quality over a whole record, though, so it's not like it's a huge priority. Like I said, I'm kind of curious. What I've been hearing reminds me of eclectic, mid-period Used, who are among one of my favorite bands from the past decade.

Here we are back on par with the Top 100 charts for the past 2 weeks. I didn't edit last week's chart as thoroughly as usual, but it's all there. Thanks Slizzard for your help! I really do appreciate these updates each week. Thanks again.

I saw that earlier today. Well done, gentlemen. Nice to see that for all the undeserved flak overexposure has gotten them, they have a great sense of humor about it and took some sting out of 75,000 assholes' contempt by poking fun at themselves.

I'm personally surprised this hit #1. I think it is one of their least edgy and Adult Contemporary-leaning singles to date. But all the more power to them. Agreed. I'm not saying payola because I just looked and this song's had a triple-digit bullet for the past three weeks (though its biggest bullet yet is a little suspect). But I am holding up a red flag. It strikes me as very odd that a pleasant enough, but in no way edgy, Coldplay song is #1 on the heels of a fleeting Top 5 hit that just barely went recurrent. (I believe it was actually purged from #40 in what would've been its 20th week.) This after a decent new Bush song hit #1 ten years after "Speed Kills" peaked just outside the Top 10, with only the lukewarm response to Institute and Gavin's poppy solo record in between. It would've made sense for Young the Giant to ascend to the top or for the Black Keys to take it away already, but back to back #1's from Bush and Coldplay kind of annoys me.

Hands down, the best song on the record is "Blinded." Struggling somewhat to fully get into the rest of it. There are some solid songs, for sure, but almost as many forgettable ones. This is after my first run-through with song rankings in mind; I've played the album 4-5 times already. Kirk, I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Don't see "What the Water Gave Me" on the AAA chart this week, so I've removed it from mine. 1. Avenged Sevenfold "Buried Alive" 2. Evanescence "What You Want" 3. Evanescence "My Heart Is Broken" (Does this count, since it's technically Pop only? I have no problem removing it and swapping in something else if need be.)3. Cults "Go Outside" 4. Rise Against "Make It Stop (September's Children)" 5. Adele "Someone Like You" 6. Red Hot Chili Peppers "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" 7. Foster the People "Pumped Up Kicks" 8. Cage the Elephant "Aberdeen" 9. Foster the People "Helena Beat" 10. New Found Glory "Radiosurgery" (It didn't chart anywhere, but I'm guessing I can still count it until next week when "Anthem for the Unwanted" goes for adds.)

Not surprising, since it was one of the few new songs played live last week, but there are so many better songs on the new album, which is surprisingly great. Really solid top to bottom. This coming from a fairly casual NFG fan. It's late, so I kind of need to go to bed, but I'd like to revisit the "Radiosurgery" topic and hopefully discuss the album more.
My pick for a new single, since you asked, would've been "Summer Fling, Don't Mean a Thing."

Meanwhile, Swedish House Mafia's "Save the World" was surprisingly allowed to drop from 38 to 48 recently and Matt Nathanson's "Faster" slid from 33-46 a few weeks later. Whatever.

"What the Water Gave Me" is ineligible, due to being kicked off the alternative chart and also the AAA chart this past week. 47 51 FLORENCE + THE MACHINE What The Water Gave ... 31 34 -3 0.17 Not my fault it's "tied for #50" on AAA and the other song, while technically bulleted (smaller spin loss?), is not shown on the published chart. Boom! Count it. 1. Evanescence "What You Want" 2. Avenged Sevenfold "Buried Alive" 3. Adele "Someone Like You" 4. Rise Against "Make It Stop (September's Children)" 5. Foster the People "Pumped Up Kicks" 6. Red Hot Chili Peppers "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" 7. Cults "Go Outside" 8. Cage the Elephant "Aberdeen" 9. I think he was referring to Evanescence, but I'm honestly not sure either. Yeah, sorry...Evanescence. I thought I'd be held accountable for putting "What You Want" at #1, so I took a leap of faith and just implied what I was referring to. Sorry that wasn't more clear. 1. Evanescence "What You Want" 2. Avenged Sevenfold "Buried Alive" 3. Adele "Someone Like You" 4. Foster the People "Pumped Up Kicks" 5. Red Hot Chili Peppers "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" 6. Rise Against "Make It Stop (September's Children)" 7. Cults "Go Outside" 8. Florence + the Machine "What the Water Gave Me" 9. Cage the Elephant "Aberdeen" 10. blink-182 "Up All Night"

1. Avenged Sevenfold - Buried Alive Wait. Someone has an Avenged tune at #1 and it's not me? How is that possible?? I know I've already had it up there for 4 weeks and it still may return, but that kinda stings... 1. Evanescence "What You Want" 2. Adele "Someone Like You" 3. Avenged Sevenfold "Buried Alive" 4. Foster the People "Pumped Up Kicks" 5. Red Hot Chili Peppers "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" 6. Rise Against "Make It Stop (September's Children)" 7. Cults "Go Outside" 8. blink-182 "Up All Night" 9. Florence + the Machine "What the Water Gave Me" 10. Cage the Elephant "Aberdeen" hmm doesn't really sound like they've grown since their last album. Hopes aren't really too high for their new album, unfortunately. *sigh* Yeah, this song sounds pretty much like I was expecting it to. *eats hat* (Oh, and did I mention that the album is one of the more pleasant surprises of the year and that I played it almost continuously in my car for the past two weeks, only kicking it out, finally, to give Björk's new album some attention? 'Cause, yeah, that happened too. )

Unfortunately, nobody at All Access noticed that the song's 8 letter .wma file address is already taken and instead redirects you to their stream of BLACk stone cherry's "LONEly train."

[This album has been hyped so much over the past two years] and now here it is. But it seems like a huge anticlimax after waiting so long. The band doesn't seem 100% in it and the label doesn't seem to want to promote it as if they were a major artist. I fear that the 100k+ are all hardcore fans like me and then this album will fall away too quickly. I agree very much with where you're coming from, more so than anyone else posting in this topic it seems. I put my own spin on your quote because you already said perfectly a lot of what I was thinking. "Up All Night" just wasn't quite the home run of quality that it needed to be. For all the hype of new Blink music, it should've been a multi-week #1. If this had been, say, 2007, 2008, it very well may have been. I was frustrated, but not the least bit surprised when it only topped out at #3. And you know once it goes recurrent, you'll never hear it again. Hell, even the most enduring radio single from their last album seems to be "I Miss You" and even that's not regularly forced down my throat the way "Dammit," "What's My Age Again," "All the Small Things," and to a lesser extent, "Josie," "Stay Together for the Kids," and "First Date" are. This comeback album seems destined to be a (relative) commercial flop. The Blink guys seem to be into their band (with Mark easily being the most enthusiastic of the three), but because of all the other projects they're involved in, and because they've all become superstar celebrities in their own right, they have way too many handlers in their business now and it's like a huge, detached machine. For their Alternative Press cover story (the major magazine that's clearly been more supportive of their career than any other), the writer was only granted a half-hour joint interview with Mark and Tom, which was then cut short by a publicist. Travis was apparently too busy/inaccessible to bother sitting down for the reporter at all. So if this album, which is surprisingly solid, ends up stiffing and not breaking even for the label because the band members are too busy to give their full attention to promoting it, they'll have no one to blame but themselves. I think "Heart's All Gone" is too unremarkable to be a single. It's a standard fast punk song, and while it's a good song, it has nothing really going for it that screams "single". For single #3 I would want "Ghost On The Dance Floor", although "Natives" or "Wishing Well" seems far more likely. If there was any chance for a Deluxe track being chosen, I'd pick "Snake Charmer" in a heartbeat. "Heart's All Gone" is easily my favorite because it's faster and more direct than any of the other songs. However, I can also see it doing a lackluster job as a single because it's so straightforward. Don't really know what my thoughts about other singles are because, while I played the album in my car constantly for three weeks, I can't see the forest for the trees yet, if you will.

Shocked to see this hit the chart (with a considerably large bullet) last weekend, especially since "Rumour Has It" didn't get too far, and despite sticking around, has already been purged from the chart.
Since I haven't caught "Buried Alive" on the radio for over a week now (haven't been listening much, though), this was the #1 song on my chart last week. Cool, if unexpected, to see the song chart on Alternative. I would say it's unfortunate I'll never get to hear it on local Alternative radio, but obviously, I hear it so much from its airplay on more than one other format that it doesn't even matter. :)
"Rolling in the Deep" eventually hit my chart and has been up and down on its bottom half ever since, but for whatever reason, this song, while not immediate either, slowly caught fire and I get lost in it now.

This actually struck me as the most sensible choice. It struck me repeatedly, until I blacked out. :) To be fair, I think the screaming (or at least a harder edge) is actually what a lot of ex-Staind fans had been wanting from them. I'll testify to this. Break the Cycle and 14 Shades of Grey were first-week purchases. I downloaded Chapter V after it had been out a couple years and didn't hurry to hear The Illusion of Progress, either. I think I've only made it all the way through both of them once or twice. At first I was so impressed by Staind's return to heaviness I thought I'd be buying their new record. A cooler head prevailed by the time it was released, though, so I only downloaded it. Nevertheless, while I'm glad I didn't pay money for it, I've been playing it at work in my headphones a fair amount since. "Wannabe" is so bad I feel embarrassed for them. (It's so unlistenable, this album only has 9 tracks, as far as I'm concerned.) The screaming in "Paper Wings" comes off as very forced to me, so that one's my de facto least favorite. For as sick of their ballads as I got from 14SOG onward, "Something to Remind You" is ironically one of the very best songs on the record. I think the lack of drums makes it stand out, as well as the fact that it never develops into a formulaic power-ballad, instrumentally. What you hear at the beginning is all you get for the duration of the song. "Eyes Wide Open" is one of my 4 favorites on the album, to focus on the song at hand.

16. Adele - Set Fire To The RainDon't look now, but "Set Fire to the Rain" landed on the AAA chart last weekend. (I could've sworn it did months and months ago as well, but now I can't find any record of that among my personal documents.) 13 10 13 STAIND - Not Again 14 10 17 RISE AGAINST - Make It Stop (September's Children) Two #10s? 1. Adele "Someone Like You" 2. Evanescence "What You Want" 3. Avenged Sevenfold "Buried Alive" 4. Foster the People "Pumped Up Kicks" 5. Red Hot Chili Peppers "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" 6. Rise Against "Make It Stop (September's Children)" 7. blink-182 "Up All Night" 8. Cults "Go Outside" 9. Florence + the Machine "What the Water Gave Me" 10. All That Remains "The Last Time" You guys know that the reason "Someone Like You" and (belatedly) "Pumped Up Kicks" are doing so well on my chart is because of Pop, not Alternative (or AAA, in Adele's case) airplay, right?

Well, it's worth noting that Sonny Moore was vocalist of From First to Last and did an electropop EP on his own name before becoming a dubstep artist as Skrillex. I mean, if we're going to point out others as "trend chasing." OK, I didn't know any of the solo stuff Sonny was working on post-FFTL actually saw the light of day. Wasn't his original solo stuff produced by Ross Robinson, like, as Robinson's flagship artist for a new label? I can't imagine Ross is still onboard and behind the Skrillex project, though. Once Sonny's Skrillex stuff came out, I was like, "Wait, is that the kind of stuff he's been working on his own this whole time? 'Cause I didn't think it was..." Putting weight behind your point, a co-worker or two who listen to electronic music, with no prior familiarity with FFTL, think Skrillex is garbage, that Sonny is watering/dumbing down dubstep.
