This single is a bit of a trainwreck. It doesn't sound country at all... just a rehash of his old hit with Shania providing the vocals. Poor Lionel... I really liked his last album of new material which was more of an R&B approach, his first single "I Call It Love" sounded very Ne-Yo inspired. This song just kinda sounds.... desperate. "I Call It Love" was actually 2 albums ago. His last album in 2009, featured the minor AC hit, "Just Go."

Donna Summer's IWGWY and LITH both went to #1 on the Club Play chart. IWGWY also got a lot of airplay in NY on WKTU, loved hearing that one. I heard it in the clubs for a few years and now it's definitely a rarity. She really slayed that song, so proud of her on that one. (the Italian version she recorded has a great vocal, but she mangles the words).
Pretty sure that Tina's WTHIO was a fairly sized international hit. I was surprised it didn't take in the US especially since the Metro sound was huge.

LTAL was full of missteps. The biggest one was leading off the album with "Tell Him." did Tell Him do well on any radio format back then? It charted on AC, Top 5, I think, but underperformed considering her prowess on AC at the time, and also considering the pedigree of the single (Celine+Babs+David Foster+Walter Afanasieff). Too many cooks in the kitchen I think. It's still an interesting listen, just because it EXISTS.

^ These tabloids are so desperate. I mean, suicide doesn't even make a lick of sense, considering she was just with her team before she died, handling business, and on her way to a party.
And of course Brandi's own recounting of the trip Whitney wanted to take with everyone. How do those "journalists" sleep at night?

This was the best of Javier's dates from this Boxscore:
113 Javier Colon Best Buy Theater New York, N.Y. Feb. 7, 2012 $21,291 545 / 977 1 / 0 $75, $31 AEG Live
At least no one had to stand. :(

I know about the commercial, but still, for a song like this to get to #14 on the Hot 100 in 2002 was very unusual. Definitely. And the album sold very well, although they shifted sounds for the second album and it flopped. Love this song, and the entire first album actually. It's a very cohesive listen.

Are we getting a Box Set of Whitney Houston Music soon? I would like them to make one, but if they won't put any effort into doing it correctly, I do not want it then. I don't want them disrespecting her legacy. Billboard's tribute issue talked about the problems the label is going to have with a new GH. (whether it counts as a frontline album, paying the advance, how much effort to put into the packaging etc...) It will come, but how soon?

The RnG Main Mix is super tight (love it!), but the Duhb kind of goes off the rails and the bell noise used throughout really bugs me (this is odd, because I normally freak out over their Duhbs, but I'll pass on this one).
The R3hab mixes start off okay, but the chords don't work for me when the chorus comes in. The Mixin' Marc & Svejda mixes suffer a similar problem for me, but there are also too many beat dropouts (and the production is seizure-inducing busy) disrupting the flow of the mixes for me.

^Not much, but she's had the X-Factor in spades for well over a decade now.
I still think Janet is the best way to go. She needs them as much as they need her.

That live version was an abyssmal moment for Mariah, who literally sounded like she was sick with a cold or something and fought her way through it. I try to skip it whenever I play the Patti Live album. Yeah. Her live vocals were at their worst from 1998-2000 all around though. After hearing that version, I was shocked that Mariah signed off on it for the CD recording. I mean, to preserve that performance seemed like a mistake. And the funny thing, was that Patti, after just singing circles around Mariah, praises the heck out of her, and Mariah sounded completely winded. My least favorite Mariah moment next to her 9/11 Hero performance. Cheryl Lynn's version is still fresh today.

My good friend Jason Webb (who won a Dove award last year) has been nominated for a second time in the Choral Collection of the Year category, so I felt it appropriate to start this thread in honor of him.
Congrats to all the nominees. Would like to see Mandisa win it this year, but I think that Laura Story is destined to take 'em all.

Whitney Houston's second album is off iTunes. It was added right after the passing and now it's gone. Odd. Too bad, people will have to buy awful remixes of IWTDWS, SE and LWSTD. Just bizarre. What's the deal with this? I can understand in 2000 when the GH album came out, and they wanted people to have some reason to go back and buy her earlier CDs to keep her catalog viable, but to remove it from iTunes is a headscratcher.
