No. But his success in Britain certainly is fantastic.

Assuming this is true, then things just got a whole lot simpler for him with Universal buying EMI (although the deal hasn't officially gone through, but in theory, yes).
I'm glad that he has reached out to so many different markets, because it's setting him up for an absolutely massive next album launch.
But in the meantime, the current album is chock full of singles and Ships in the Night is a stunner.

A moderator is the right person to PM if there are inappropriate posts, rather than clog up the thread with this ugly back & forth.

Mid-tempo? I am already very intrigued. I was thinking that trying to bring this uptempo would either require some very unpleasant vocal stretching, or just lifting several vocal passages for a Dub.
Can't wait.

Nicky Romero has a hot mix. This one is still my fave, but I haven't heard all of the new ones yet.

I don't think Mariah can technically make a "comeback" as she hasn't really fallen out of favor with the public like she did during 2001-2004. Bingo!

Did Patti LaBelle ever record a cover of this in studio? No. She only did the live cover with Mariah. That live version was an abyssmal moment for Mariah, who literally sounded like she was sick with a cold or something and fought her way through it. I try to skip it whenever I play the Patti Live album. In 1996 Jordan Hill covered this, with David Foster producing. She did a really slammin' job.

This song was a daring choice, and it's gorgeous. I kind of like the fact that it came and went quickly because I appreciate it a lot more now when I do hear it. The album version was quite long. Was there a radio edit for this?

I played the full extended mix of this last night in my set and got a fantastic reaction from the crowd. It is such a feel good song with some of Whitney's effortless high notes.

Certainly not Diane Warren's best, but I loved the combination of her writing with the Metro production, which at the time was SO hot. Good combo.

I love the fact that it already did hit #1 on Triple A, and I'm guessing a surefire #1 is in store for the Club Play chart once this song gets an official remix treatment. I think it can go to #1 on CHR, sure. It's a hot song.

Emotions pretty much disappeared after it hit big, while HWIK continued to get pretty decent recurrent play for a long time.
I'm a much bigger fan of Emotions though. It's hard not to get worked up over all of those sickening whistle tones.

I'm not sure yet really. I never invested too much in her, other than enjoying her music for the catchy hooks and beats that it is. I suppose if I looked up to her as some sort of role model, then yes, I would have a different opinion on her.
I would love to be a fly on the wall for the PR people in her camp. They are all just a bunch of "yes" men.

There is a lot of wrong info in that article. I don't think they're premiering the video on Idol. I do remember seeing it on Idol (so that might be right), but the article says the "video for βOn the Floorβ is currently the second-most-watched YouTube clip of all time." What? That does not sound right.

I said over 10 years ago it was stupid for them to release her GH with remixes. Nobody wants those remixes that they don't even know! Everyone wants the originals! It made no sense. When the GH came out, Whitney was experiencing a massive renaissance in the clubs, and most of the remixes, (at the time) were huge, so I think they saw it as a win-win, because they weren't cannibalizing Whitney's catalog (giving consumers reason to go back and own the earlier CDs), but you're right, looking back, the project looks totally dated and oops-worthy. Hey, one thing we can all agree on, the artwork for the GH is top notch!

When Whitney's "Greatest Hits" was released there was a ton of negative feedback saying that the remixes weren't the vesions that the public wanted to buy, and that may explain why it definitely underperformed sales-wise.
Several more collections have been issued since then in different territories, "Love, Whitney," "Artist Collection," "The Ultimate Collection," and the 2-disc "The Essential Whitney Houston"(really an exact reissue of the Greatest Hits but without the fabulous artwork) in 2011. But as others have noted, the label could easily release a new one that represents tracks from all of her albums, which hasn't happened yet.

Is Matt marketing himself as a Christian artist? Yeah, he's been doing that since his debut CD If you look at the charts, you'll notice that EMI is actually working his Christian single output, while Universal Republic is doing everything else. I don't know this came to be. Would love someone to shed light on it. Can't find anything online.

While this isn't terrible, there are plenty of other classics that they could have revisited that don't have a new package of mixes every other year. . True, but we're talking about Simon Cowell here, and he's a sucker for unnecessary covers. (I'm assuming he's had a hand in picking this). The Barbara Tucker version is scorching hot right now and I hear it pretty much everywhere, so the timing of this Melanie single makes no sense. Good remixer lineup though. Update: got a chance to listen to the remixes. Bimbo Jones and Ralphi did solid work here. Ralphi's dub could have been a bit more sinister...:)

Long term impact in the pop world of course is smaller for Norah Jones. Norah Jones is not a pop singer Exactly, she etablished herself in a genre does give you the career she has enjoyed, her level of success for some classified in the jazz genre has been very impressive, but what differs with Adele is that she is having an era bigger than that of Norah, "21" total sales will surpass those of "Come away with me" soon, She's not quite up to Norah's total sales yet. That album was a monster and is still selling bucket loads in catalog. However, with a fourth single and some actual touring, Adele could do it. More power to her.

Where the heck is "If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful?" If you had that one, I would have definitely voted for it.
But, of these, I chose HH.

For those of you that have been following Joy Williams since her early days on Christian radio, how great was it to finally hear that glorious voice on the Grammy's? I nearly lost my sh*t. Love The Civil Wars, but there is a special place in my heart for her 3 solo albums. Check them out if you like her voice but don't know her pop music...

This song brings back some wonderful memories, including a great scene from the movie Flashdance. I believe the song was on certain editions of the soundtrack.

Shanice Wilson SLAYS this on Babyface's Unplugged CD. You have to check out the way she sings it. Almost wish that she got to do it first, even though Toni is amazing.

I liked this one a lot. Their follow up single "Luv'd Up," not so much.
