The original song sounds a bit dull but it will be interesting to here the duet.

Maybe. It's weird seeing Alanis on AC. Has she even charted on AC before? I can't remember anything but I guess one of her bigger Hot AC hits might have done it... but even then, she hasn't had a big Hot AC hit since the AC format has started to lean more Hot AC over the last five years or so. I'm surprised it's doing as well as it is though considering the song sounds definitely more Hot AC/poppish. How many spins is #49? Well, the AC chart now is pretty much dominated by Hot AC. I can't remember seeing her with a charting singles on AC, except in Canada. I guess possibly with "Thank You"?

I think releasing another obvious cover as a single is a mistake, especially since the intent here is to make a comeback and to have a new start.
Celine Dion did do quite a bit of promotion for "Taking Chances". That type of song should have been quite fitting for Hot AC stations and I think many stations never added her solely for her image, since the song would have made it if it had been done by other singers. And if Hot AC stations shy away from her, then it's no wonder that Pop stations would as well. I think the radio programmers contributed to the lack of success for that song as much as Sony.
That's too bad... it was a pretty strong first single and they should be following it up with a new song not as well known.

I usually find them annoying, especially if there is talking. I too hate it when it is attached to the end of a track, or it is not a clean break with the next song. I usually listen to CDs on shuffle, so I prefer each track to be distinct rather than melding one into the next.

Anne Murray says the artist incorrectly included into the "Album of the Year" category could conceivably win. Her duet album was left out by mistake and later added back into the list of nominees. canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5gmHf7vEuxocnh0k27vDej5NPN84QSo which album was not actually among the top 5 best sellers? "The Best Damn Thing," Avril Lavigne "D'elles," Celine Dion "Taking Chances," Celine Dion "The Reminder," Feist "Call Me Irresponsible," Michael Buble.

Maybe it's because Wyclef Jean has been around for awhile longer than many other rappers? But then again, Chris Brown and Rhianna are much higher here than on the US Hot AC, where they're both under the top 30.

The only album I have is Amnesiac (given to me by my cousin who is a huge fan) so sometimes I end up listening to the album on the computer when I'm working and not really paying attention when it queues up. I think I would like them more in smaller doses... sometimes it's hard to resist changing to something else.

I tend to like most of the songs Mariah Carey has out, like the one out right now, but I agree that most of them sound very alike. Her rap/hip-hop collaborations are all very similar, and so are her ballads. The good part of that is the quality is quite consistently solid. But on the other hand, songs blend into one another and they become less memorable.

I didn't like "Candyman". So either Britney Spears or Avril.

"Who Knew"... I was disappointed it didn't do well on its first run.

Casey Kasem's countdown motivated me to start chartwatching, and I have tried several times in the past decade or so to quantify what songs I like at that particular time, but have been too busy with work or study to keep it up. I became less interested in the charts between the time Casey Kasem stopped hosting AT40, the AC chart became dead slow and R&R was bought by Billboard. I still save weekly charts on Mediabase but I don't pore over them anymore.

I haven't heard "Love Song", but I'm not a big fan of "Bubbly".

Apparently, mistakes were made in the nomination calculations... ADDED for "Album of the Year": Anne Murray, Duets: Friends & Legends. ADDED for New Artist: Jill Barber ADDED for best rap recording: JDiggz, Memoirs of a Playbwoy REMOVED from best rap recording: (received nomination last year) Classified, Fall from Paradise www.cbc.ca/arts/music/story/2008/02/15/juno-mistake.html

Back when there was a Canadian radio industry magazine, add dates were listed there. Maybe official add dates aren't as important in Canada and stations just play songs when they receive the CD.
KelownaGuy would probably know...

An overrated artist gets much attention and recognition for their work. I don't really see Tina Turner getting much of either. I agree with Max.

Unfortunately, it does have some effect on me. But at the end of the day, I do still end up liking many of those artists' songs. For example, I have a cousin who is a huge U2 and Metallica fan, but he keeps putting other artists down, so I am sometimes slower in liking new U2 songs though I eventually do. Not as much on the forums... I think the only two for me would be Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera, though I do own some of their albums as well.

I've heard it on the radio as well... it's not one of my favourites from the album, but I don't mind another single. Successful Canadian artists tend to release even more singles here than in the US with their albums. I guess they can count on at least some automatic CanCon adds.

Is this being re-released to radio as well? I wish they would spend energy releasing a second single from TC instead. I do like the song, and the original didn't do as well as it should've on the charts, but it's time to focus on the new rather than old recycled material as in her last couple of albums.

I really like that duet between Anne Murray and Shania Twain as well. I'm sure next year will be Shania's year for the Junos.
Both "Album of the Year" and "Artist of the Year" nominees are based on sales, so thus the heavy Celine Dion representation.
It would be nice if there were more categories to allow some of the lesser known acts to get some exposure. If that were the case, I wouldn't mind big name US crossovers like Celine Dion, Nickelback and Diana Krall getting nominated for whatever they put out. I still consider them Canadian no matter where they move to.
I don't get the "New Artist" or the deadlines reasoning either.

I went with Jessica Simpson, though I'm not a huge fan of hers. It's hard to listen to the Christina Aguilera's Christmas CD all the way through... the vocals are too loud and bombastic all the time, with unnecessary and distracting vocal acrobatics. One or two songs at a time is more bearable.

Many Mariah Carey's songs are played on AC and Hot AC stations. A lot of her songs have stood the test of time, and this is just one of them.

Tough one... I like songs by both, but I agree with the above poster regarding the generic nature of some of Michelle Branch's songs.

I find Lily Allen's songs catchy. "Rehab" was rather dull and repetitive.

I think as Canadians, we prefer Canadian artists, even if their music isn't better than some of their counterparts. It's just the fact that their Canadian that makes us like them even more. LOL, I do try harder to like CanCon songs, though it is difficult sometimes.

Not to mention, what a snorefest. I'm sick to death of almost all of these overplayed songs, plus the order had no rhyme or reason.
Most of these songs are played on the HAC station I was listening to, but it was a Canadian HAC.

yeah i remember hearing Holler on my local radio station, did it not chart here in the US? "Holler" did chart, but only reached #37 on the pop chart. It's too bad the other singles from the album flopped (I'm not sure which other ones they released since I never heard any of them). Four albums is the minimum for a Greatest Hits album, I think. I suppose each can contribute their biggest hit as a solo artist for the album to fill space. A reunion is really without a point if one of the members refuses to come back.

That video is hilarious, and I almost like the song the way Alanis sings it. I've liked her more recent albums, and I look forward to her next one. She made a great move by releasing that video, whether intentional or not... I can't believe how fast it has spread and how she is back in the spotlight. Good on her.
